U S 2012 Sacagewea Native America $1 coin
January 25, 2013, 03:34:08 AM
Has anyone come across the above coin? This coin is appearing to be elusive and at coin shows singles are selling for around $3 and up. The latest mintage figures I've seen (Jan 15th) are 3.28 million total for both the P & D mints. Personally, the reverse image is one of the best designs I've seen on a U S coin in ages.

I managed to get a P/D pair for myself from a friend in the US but I believe he buys rolls from the mint.

It is a nice reverse.

THE BUREAU F THE MINT DECIDED TO CHANGE THE BACK OF THE SACAJAWEA AMERICAN INDIAN DOLLAR OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS--THEY ARE GOING TO RECOGNIZE VARIOUS ASPECTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE LIVES OF OUR NATIVE AMERICANS---NICE IDEA BUT ANOTHER SET TO COLLECT---I AM NOT SURE IF THESE ARE GOING TO BE SOLD AS COMMEMORATIVES OR AS CIRCULATING COINS.........

These appear will be "circulating coins" just like the President dollar coins, as much as the dollar coin does circulate in the US.

Information from US Mint Web Site
04/2013    Native American $1 Coin Rolls, Bags and Boxes [ Rolls ]                    $32.95
04/2013    Native American $1 Coin Rolls, Bags and Boxes [ 100-Coin Bags ]            $111.95
04/2013    Native American $1 Coin Rolls, Bags and Boxes [ 250-Coin Boxes ]    $275.95
04/2013    Native American $1 Coin Rolls, Bags and Boxes [ 500-Coin Boxes ]    $550.95

The theme for the 2013 design is "The Delaware Treaty (1778). According to a press release from the mint, the tails side of the 2013 coin features a turkey, howling wolf and turtle - all symbols of the clans of the Delaware Tribe -- and a ring of 13 stars to represent the original Colonies. The required inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and $1.

That 2013 reverse design looks pretty good. Is the U S mint waking up? Australia, Canada, and most of the European countries have had great designs over the years whereas the U S believed in rehashing old designs.
