THE LOSS OF A GREAT MAN

THE DETROIT AREA LOST A GREAT SPORTS ANNOUNCER AND HUMANITARIAN IN THE DEATH OF ERNIE HARWELL......HE DIED AT HOME OF CANCER AT THE AGE OF 92..........HE WAS THE VOICE OF THE DETROIT TIGERS' BASEBALL TEAM FOR OVER 40 YEARS............IF ANY OF  YOU FOLLOW SPORTS I AM SURE YOU HAVE HAD CERTAIN ANNOUNCERS THAT STOOD OUT FROM THE OTHERS---WELL ERNIE WAS A GIANT IN HIS FIELD AND I HOPE SOME OF YOU HAD A CHANCE TO HEAR HIM.........

I'm sorry to hear that. It seems like the great ones always seem to live a long time. We lost one like that in the St. Louis area a few years ago, Jack Buck. It was the end of an era...

I was watchin' the Yanks when news of this came over the wire.  Such a loss for the great State of Michigan.  There was news footage of him speaking before the crowd last fall.  To look at him you would think there was nothing wrong.  He strode into the stadium regal and upright and spoke both clearly and succinctly.  For a moment I was a Tigers fan.....
