No More Coin Budget for a long time

My coin budget is now blown for a few months.
Here be my latest purchase.
Sorry its only 1 side will post both sides when the coin arrives. It should be problem free as its from a dealer I trust.

That is an absolutely gorgeous example of the 1797 cartwheel!  I can imagine that set you back a few hundred. Worth it though. Congratulations!

I say the coin budget is blown everytime I buy something 1k+ but then early this month I really went berserk and went hog wild for something with many superlatives, oldest dated British coin, oldest gold coin, only Scottish gold, earliest Queen Mary coin, and most expensive coin that I will admit to.  So fear not intrepid nohope587, there is hope, and soon I hope you will outdo yourself like me.  The last couple of months have seen me expend funds on several well pedigreed Scottish coins, one which is only 1 of 3 known, several others pedigreed to JJ. North etc.  But now I am where I have to sell other stuff that I hoarded for years to keep feeding the addictions.

I bought it years ago, but I recall it only cost me something like $20.

I'm curious as to why yours was so expensive?  The grade?

They are extremely interesting coins.

I can pick these up on eBay all day for between $20 and $40 if I want a G to VF cleaned coin. Try finding one in AU or MS and its a whole new Ball game.
Here is one I missed Final price was just under 600 Pounds.
Mine I think will be a better grade and a lot less money Both are 10 leaf varieties

Oh but i have access to one of the three Antwerp diamond bourses
I gave my wife her  life long dream of one carat blue solitaire diamond cut in brilliant form without any visable flaws ( eye pure )
This is my free pass to any coins this year since she still thinks gold coins are jewelry trinkets

I have owned two of the 1797 cartwheels but sold off the lower grade when I managed to upgrade with the help of an British collector who really took care of me. I will agree that the higher grade cartwheels have gone off the charts so I am very content to admire the very nice specimen which is currently one of the prides of my world collection. Everytime I pick that coin up I can't help but wonder, "What were they thinking?" Could you just imagine what it would be like carrying around 20 of them in change?
One thing is for certain it is one of the best "one year of issue" classics I have ever owned and there is no way I will ever part with the one I have now!

My favorite "one year of issue" modern day silver would have to be the Canadian Wolf 1/2 ounce bullion.

Just for those that were curious here is what PCGS thought of it.
I would have put it in the AU range for sure after getting it in hand but probably in the AU 53to55 range
