I became a Yankee fan in 1948, at the age of five. Been one ever since.
I took our two sons to NYC in 1999 to watch a couple games. Missed the David Cone perfect game by one day.
Especially cherise my memories of Mickey Mantle, from listening to him play, watching him on TV, and watching him in person. Without injuries, and with a good stable situation in which to live in New York, he might have been the best of all time.
About a month ago a few family members and I made the 3,000 mile trip to Yankee Stadium in order to say we were there for a game the final year.
Then tonight, a great ESPN telecast of the last game ever played there, with a lot of history included.
I realize the Yankees aren't universally loved, but this old codger has loved them for 60 years.
Hopefully the greatness will continue just across the street in the new Yankee Stadium.
