Hi all, just curious as to your personal opinions on what the top ten most popularly collected nations are. Here are my top ten collected nations, in no particular order.
United States
Canada
Mexico
Great Britain
Germany
Australia
France
Russia
British Commonwealth
Euro
I'm kind of grouping quite a few nations together with those last two, but those are my top ten nations that I collect. What about you guys, where lie your interests?
-
Well I would have to agree with your choices ndgoflo.
My main area is Australia and Nazi Germany, But I collect certain coins from USA, Great Britain, Euro but the world where bi-metallic's are produced.
-
For myself, my "top ten" in terms of number of coins in my collection runs:
Australia
Great Britain
New Zealand
USA
Canada
Germany
France
Roman Empire
India

As far as other popular nations or themes, especially with American collectors, I would say:
Philippines
Spanish Colonial

Narrowing things down to "favourites" is definitely not my strong point!
Australia.
New Zealand
Great Britain
Canada
Japan
Russia
African (What? Africa isn't a country? ;) )
Peru (love those silver Sols)
Islands (Iceland, South Pacific, European Territories.)
Whatever else is left over.
Although, I do find myself not that impressed with European coinages unless they're over a century old. o.0

Great replies folks, it sounds like we all have some common interests as well as some more "specialized".
-
Having only been collecting for a few years at this point, I only have 2 'established' collections -
1. Australia and
2. NZ
but, gradually building up into a presentable collection are:
3. US, and to a lesser extent,
4. Canada and
5. Great Britain
also working on a collection of
6. World Banknotes and my ultimate dream, would be to have
7. At least one coin from every country, continent etc etc listed in Krause catalogue!
I think I'll be dreaming for a long time yet! (only got about 99% to go)
-
I don't have a "top 10," however my favorite coins, and most of the coins in my collection, come from:
United States
Australia
Canada
Great Britain
Bahamas
Cayman Islands
Two Euro Commemoratives
Also, I have a large amount of Mexican coins, but with the exception of some silver ones, I have never been able to develop a real interest in them.
:) :) :) :)

Miss Kitty,
I hereby nominate you for the 'Dark Sider of the Year' Award.
It takes a collector with a stout heart and a strong will to stand up and say
"No Amarican Coins".
You are a credit to the Dark Side.
May our junior collectors be encouraged by your enthusiasm and forthright attitude.
Congratulations.
regards,

I can be bribed or I can be generous.

Looks like we need to FLOOD triggersmob with some U.S. coins?
-
Muckeye, it's my pre-decimals that are holding be back, especially pre 1940 6 pences, shillings and Florins.
Check out my gallery on CCF (sorry TKO100), if there is any you can help with, let me know and I will send you my trade list,
to see if there is any coins I can help you with.
It will be hard to keep the Aussie coins in front, as the U.S. coins have three different mints for each coin. Just to collect all the Lincoln cents I will need about 300 coins.
Looks like we need to FLOOD triggersmob with some U.S. coins?
Twoshadows You might start a war between Aus. and U.S., but I'm in a win/win situation LOL.

I had to take a look at my pc photogallery to try and determine what I collect
Very difficult since I partly collect by association and partly by cheap price and partly by beauty
France of course for the easy accesibility to anything post 1852 and for the Monnaie de Paris which has some beauts
USA
Australia
Canada
probably all three in about equal amounts
Austrian Hungarian empire
Swizerland
Belgium
Great Britain
-
For myself, I'd have to list...
Italy
Germany
German States
Great Britain
Russia
U.S.
Australia
France
India Princely States
Swiss Cantons
And of course...Ancient Coins, which are a world unto their own.
-
If we are going by collection size then my most popular coins are in the following order
USA
Great Britain and commonwealth
Israel
Mexico
Canada
Argentina
Trinidad and Tobago
These are the only countries I have significant collections of.
-
nohope,
I can certainly help rectify that situation. PM me what countries you are lacking and I'll see if I can help.
-
Thanks Dumanyu its a kind offer but I have at least 1 example from most countries. I just listed the countries I have a significant amount from i.e 100 coins plus
