Now that the 2016 medals have been completed, time to start planning for the 2017 10th Anniversary medal.
Any ideas?
I could use my magic and zap one up if needed. ;D
-
Many of Daniel Carr's other club medals feature renditions of already existing coins as part of the designs. Our 2015 Glendale Coin Club medals had the Pacific Company $5 Gold coin design. Our 2016 Glendale Coin Club medals had the 1894 California Midwinter Expo HK-245 so-called dollar design.
One of my favorite coins from history that features a Knight, and a very popular coin in numismatics, is the 1486 Austria Guldiner... often referred to as the World's first dollar sized (or crown sized) silver coin.
Here's an example of the 1953 restrike of the coin and I think the knight from the reverse side (or the entire reverse design w/ a 2017 date) could make a great medal.
-
Daniel mentioned that we should redo the reverse design in one of the other threads from our 2016 medals. I think we should take his advice on that since the old die can no longer be polished for proof and sandblasted for satin. So new look for the reverse and new die has my vote.
As for the obverse, it is funny that the design that you mention has a knight on horseback. I think it would be really cool if Daniel redid the original 2007 design with some new art, and it included 10th anniversary in the design.
-
I agree as it is our 10th....a redo of our first medal would be great...just need to add 10th Anniversary on it
-
I would like to see us go back to something more in line with the 2007 medal also. Not meaning to hurt anyone's feelings but the 2016 just seems to be over the top in design to me. Daniel Carr done a really great job in what we wanted but to me it's just to complicated for my liking. We have had some really great looking medals over and I would not be able to tell you which one I like the best but I can tell you it's not this years. Don't get me wrong, it's a great looking medal, but when I lay all our medals out together it just don't seem to fit the rest. So I hope for out next medal we maybe go back to something simpler. Also what do you all think of maybe doing a woody again. I love them.
-
Personally, I would like to do the 2007 design again (with some refinements).
As for personal preferences, I would say that 2008 was my favorite and 2009 was my least favorite.
-
2007, 2008 and 2009 I liked. My personal opinion is they have gone down from there.
The designs are very basic. No offense intended.
-
If Dan is willing, I think this design...
...would look great as an Octagon:

-
I have to agree with Daniel. The 2008 Is the best looking year we have had. As for basic, I like basic.
-
I believe that our very first medallion should be the basis for our 10th Anniversary medallion. It was such a great looking medal with a Knight on horseback.
We have many great medallions and there will be many more to come.
-

I like the octagon idea also
-
The last few weeks have been pretty busy for me, so here are a few of my thoughts on the anniversary medal.
Although I think the octogon shape would make a cool medal, it would probably add about $30 to the cost of each medal. The prices listed in the custom minting section state an additional $5 to $20 for a planchet with a custom shape such as an octogon, and the die cost is about double the price of a standard round die. I think these prices would make the medals to costly to make them feisable. Daniel also recommend that we do a new reverse die this year since the old one is pretty warn, so we will need 2 dies this year.
I would like to see a redo of the 2007 medal, a knight on horseback with a castle in the background similar to the castle in the background of the 2009 medal.
Also for the reverse, I would like to bring back the idea of shields with flag designs representative of the countries of our members surrounding the main design. Mabye shields of different shapes with different sword types next to it to represent knight surrounding a "table" similar to the original 2007 reverse. Hopefully this reverse can be made in a way to change between proof and satin quite a few times, and be used the next several years like our last die.
Any other thoughts?
-
Yep....I agree 100%
We need our original design reworked for our 10th Anniversary.
Lets have Daniel start now.
-
Not that my opinion means much as a newbie member, but 2008 was my favorite and the one I've managed too collect the most varieties of to date . Being a 10th anniversary though it probably should be something special :)

Everyone's opinion is welcome here Bigpoppa.
I like the 2008 medal too. I have 5 different types of that one.
-
I favor the idea of an updated and revised 2007 design with perhaps a dual date of 2007 / 2017. Keeping the two hemisphere globes on the obverse along with the flag style reverse would also be excellent.
-
Any news?
-
It will undoubted be a creation worthy of Knighthood !
-
I have a few things to work on before organizing this year's anniversary medal and making the spreadsheets for the order and price calculations, but we will start on it soon.

I am drooling already.................. ;D

Can we have another BIG one as well ?
-
Can we have another BIG one as well ?
I wish, but Daniel said he is not making these anymore. :(
-
Those big ones were pretty sweet, but Triggersmob is right, Daniel is not making that size medals anymore.
I started an order list spreadsheet for this years medals. Last year we had 22 types of different finishes. Daniel asked that we cut that down this year in one of the previous threads. We currently have 11 different types of medals on the sheet for this year (still can be changed if someone has some other ideas). Silver, Copper, and Brass in both proof and satin are the standard medals. For the fancy finishes, it would probably be best to have them done only in silver, with antique, and colortone finishes. I also left a column for Daniel to experiment with on a silver medal. For overstrikes, I think it would be cool to do an overstrike on a 2007 silver eagle since that was the year we started, and it is the 10th anniversary. I also left the Ike overstrike since they are easy to get a hold of for under $10 and they came out pretty cool last year.
For those who are new here, we are still nowhere near having a price for the medals, but we do need to make two dies this year since the reverse die that we have been using is worn out. If the order numbers are similar to last year, the cost of each medal will probably go up about $7 from last year, and then go back down the next year when we reuse the reverse die. I will start calculating the costs as I gather more information so if you can estimate what you would like to order, I will add it to the list. They will be cheaper for all as the number ordered rises.
Any other thoughts?
-
Please put me in for two of each type.
Thank you!
-
A single silver proof for me.
Thanks.
-
I'm in for one each of all things Silver -- Proof, Satin, Eagle overstrike, Ike overstrike, Antiqued, Color Toned, and DC Choice.

Here is an updated list
-
Put me down for 2 of each except the Copper Satin & Brass Satin and Ike, I'll take 3 each of those.
Thanks for putting this together!
-
I would like 1 each of the silver satin, copper satin and the brass satin thanks.
-
SirStacksALot deserves the highest accolade for his efforts..... so say we all !

Thanks!

Here is an updated list :)

Can we have another BIG one as well ?
I wish, but Daniel said he is not making these anymore. :(
I think I may have miscommunicated what I intended.
What I have discontinued doing is pewter strikes (I just didn't ever like the metal, although it was very soft and easy to strike).
For many designs, struck in copper or silver or similar metal, the large 63mm (2-1/2 inch) size required more striking force than my press could muster.
Pewter was soft enough that I could strike high relief 63mm medals.
However, another option is 50mm (2 inch). I can strike most designs in copper and silver at that size. But, of course, this would have the added expense of engraving 50mm dies (obverse and reverse). But if the Knights wanted 50mm medals in copper and/or silver, it could be done.
-
I would like to order two of each type in silver - except for the Ikes. If the 50mm are struck in silver I would also like two of those as well. Thanks!
-
I am holding off on more until I have an idea of the prices, but I would definitely be interested in 2 each of the ASE and Ike overstrikes! Once the prices are known I might order more! :)

....Uh hey, new guy here. My name is Nick and just wanted to say thanks for having me. I'll be honest I'm here for the bad a$$ medals you guys have Dan Carr make, but I'm a long time coin collector with various interests and I hope to add to the community here. Put me down for 1 each of silver and overstrikes and each finish, I believe that's 7 coins total. Depending on final cost I may make that 2 of each. I'll just show myself around, if there's any rules or etiquette to follow that I should know about just let me know. Thanks again.
-
I am also in for one each of the Silver - Proof, Satin, Eagle overstrike, Ike overstrike, Antiqued, Color Toned, and DC Choice.
Thank you!
-
I vote to have a 50 MM (silver) version added to the list, but only if the KOTC Treasury can accommodate the endeavor.
-
Put me in for
2-Silver Proof
2-2007 Silver Eagle over strike
2-40% Ike over strike
Thank You
-

At least your honest about it and there is no problem with that. I think there are quite a few others here that are only here for the medals too. A big welcome to you and all the others. We need more participating members here to get some action happening in the other forums too, not just this thread.
-
A few questions on these medals.
When will images be available?
When is the deadline for placing an order?
Thanks for any info,
Hoot
-
Hi Hoot, glad you found our castle. We have quite a few new members that are probably also thinking about the same questions. Our medals and ordering is probably a lot different than most clubs. Daniel Carr usually posts pictures and computer rendered pictures as he designs the medals. The whole process start to finish last year was probably about 7 months from when we started figuring out orders to the time the medals we're in our hands.
Daniel has always taken the time to create great medals for us, and that is when he can fit the work in. We don't rush him, and it is always worth it. The deadline for orders will be closer to the time when the design is close to being finished, but it helps all of us if orders are placed soon since I will start calculations for medal prices from those order numbers. The design, sculpting, die cutting , and press setup costs will be distributed to all of the medals ordered. You can read the posts from previous years to find out more about how the process goes.
-
Thanks for the info.
-
Here is an updated order list. We have quite a few orders already :) 50mm 2oz silver medals have been added to the list to see if we have enough interest to have 2 more dies cut to make them. I think they would be pretty cool, so hopefully we have enough interest to do it. I added them to the list in proof silver, antique silver, color tone silver, and DC choice finish. If there isnt enough interest to get the cost to a reasonable price, we will pull them from the order. If we do make them, the price will go down for next year since we will have a 50mm reverse die made up. Let me know if you want a 2oz 50mm silver added to your order.

The point of the KOTCT medals was to commemorate our great forum. Now it is just turning into a money thing. :( It's killing the medals and will in all probability kill the forum. Kind of like putting you home town dinner or pub in the middle of Walmart. I don't like it a bit and have been here long enough to say so. :( It's so sad to see our forum turned into just a money making thing. I have always held my Knights of the Coin Table medals as my most prized of all my coins and medals. Now they are just becoming the value of silver or copper. Scrap. something to sell and make a few bucks on. So Sad. :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
-
Since just about everyone is ordering 1-2 medals it looks like most are also adding to their collections rather than loading up to flip. I'd bet that many of the new members are here from the PCGS forum -which is quite active. I appreciate the opportunity to join KOCT and my medals will go into my permanent collection and eventually pass on to my two children (thus 2 of each silver).

Hello. As a new member I can understand your concern, but I think there may be another way to look at it. There are many people who had not heard of this forum until they saw the medals you produce. Because of the interest in Dan Carr items, and your medals in particular your forum will likely grow. Now this may or may not be a good thing, but I see (along with myself) several of the new people who are active on other forums. People who love the designs of Mr. Carr and who actively participate in collecting his items. Not just flippers looking to make a buck.
My coin club the Glendale Coin Club has been having Mr. Carr produce medals for the last several years that have only been available to purchase through the club. We have had people from all over the country join our club just so that they can get the medals at issue price. We as the board have discussed this, and until somebody comes along and asks to order many multiples we have continued to enjoy the extra membership. Not only because it allows our club members locally to purchase our medals at a cheaper cost, but because it expands our reach into the numismatic community.
-
Welcome aboard to all the folks and looking forward in seeing posts from you in other areas of the forum.
Since another club was mentioned, I went to have a look. Noticed that the club charges a membership fee to join while here it is free.
So I would encourage new folks looking to buy a medal or two, also make a donation (http://membersforum.knightsofthecointable.org/index.php?action=classifieds;sa=view;id=21).
-
Please put me down for 2 of each. except the IKE Thanks :)
-
you can put me down for two of all the regular finish medals including the overstrikes and 2 oz

David, I was also quite taken back by the sheer number of new members listed in the past day. This has been a very small group ever since I joined, and it is the only place that I post anything in, as I do consider the people here my friends from around the world. I found out about this forum by seeing some of the original Knights of the Coin Table medals, just like many of the new members. I know some of them are just here for the medals, but I am sure some of them will find this to be a place to meet good people with similar collecting interests from around the world just as I did. I know the KotCT medals that I have mean a lot more to me than their eBay value, and quite a few of them are already in my niece, nefiews and kids hands. Hopefully I will be able to turn a few of them into collectors and future members.
I think these medals are a good thing that has helped us to find a lot of new members.
-
I ordered 2 of 3 types 1 set me and 1 set for my 10 year old grandson. I'm hoping he get interested in numismatics.
-
...50mm 2oz silver medals have been added to the list to see if we have enough interest...
Please add one 2oz Silver Proof and one 2oz Silver DC Choice to my existing order. Thanks!
FYI, if you haven't seen Dan's 2oz 50mm commemorative token, I think the size & heft in-hand is very cool.

But I'm guessing the 2oz KOTCT medals coins will be pricey. IMO well worth it.

Please add me in for 1 each of the silver 2 ounce medal versions.
Agree with CA Collector that a 50mm version of the 2017 medal would be something very special for the 10th year Anniversary. Hope there is enough interest.
As a collector of Dan's Coin Club medals, I am quite happy to have one silver medal from each KOTC issue year, EXCEPT that pesky 2008 (any donation of one will be welcome). ;D
-
Please include me for 2 each of any silver medals for 2017.
These are for my collection of D. Carr issues and are not for any money-making purposes. Still have every D. Carr issue I have ever bought. Been collecting U.S. and World coins for over 40yrs and never heard of KotCT until the name appeared on a DC medal shown on the PCGS forum. Despite some people making money with the medals, which is okay with me, consider it a great way to attract fellow coin collectors and their contributions to the forums.
-
Haven't decided on what to order yet, but I'm sure I'll order a few.
That said, I think if there is a 50mm made, I would hope the costs of those dies be allocated exclusively to the cost of the 50mm pieces. I would hope that a decision to make a larger piece would not make all of the other medals more expensive for those of us that may not want a larger piece.

Pocketcoins,
I can see your point of view. I wasn't sure what the welcome here would be like and im certainly treading lightly. I wanted to be upfront and honest about coming here for the medals. Im sure some new guys are here as flippers but my thinking was coming here added to the coin order count and brings the price down for all and I could save a little by not buying in the aftermarket, I genuinely collect these and I'm only ordering one of each kind. I'll certainly do my best to contribute here, this place seems a little sleepy and I'm sure the added foot traffic could be a good thing. Now we just all need awesome names like Sir Humpybong and Sir StacksAlot!! Also add me for one of the 2 ouncers in silver.

Mike, if we do have enough interest in the 50mm medals, which seems to be the case, the cost of cutting the 50mm dies will only be spread out among the 50mm medals. If they are made they will actually bring down the cost of the 39mm medals since they will also take on some of the design and sculpting cost. It makes the spreadsheet calculations a lot harder to do, but that's how we did it in 2014, and will do it this time.

I think the 2 oz. Peace token is one of the best Moonlight Mint tokens ever struck, so far. I even went as far as to have a clock made using the reverse.

Hoot, thanks for the donation, a friend of Barry (Humpybong) made a few different types of the notgeld a while back. He sent some of each type to me to forward to people who donate in the US. We also had donations from several of the other new members. I hope to get the notgeld sent to all who donated within the next few days. Thank you to everyone who made a donation :)

I myself am a big Daniel Carr fan. I try to collect at least one each of everything he strikes, minus the gold, can't afford it. So I understand people wanting to get the coins/medals at the cheapest price they can find.
I do hope KOTCT doesn't become infested with flippers though, those who care more about the money than the hobby; the challenge of finding/affording the coin/token/medal that one wants included in their collection.
One option is to limit the number of medals each member can purchase but perhaps we'll cross that bridge if we ever want/need to.
-
Excellent post and I agree with you completely. My club medal purchases are for my personal collection. If I do have any additional examples, I like to use them to trade for the ones I need. On occasion, I do have to make that special purchase and am glad when someone has one to offer for sale. "Sometimes it bees that way."
-
On my order put me down for:
2 - Copper Satin 39mm
2 - Brass Satin 39mm
3 - Silver Eagle O/S
3 - Antiqued Silver 39mm
3 - Color Toned 39mm
2 - Silver Antiqued 50mm (2 oz)
2 - Color Toned 50mm (2 oz)
Thanks,
Hoot
-
Here is the latest updated order list. We should have enough orders for the large medals to have the 50mm die cut.
-
That is great news! I am glad 50mm silver will be available, even with any additional expense. ;D
Now I am wondering what Dan's 8) 2017 Knightly 10th Anniversary creation will look like.... :o
-
As one of the original members from 2007, I'm quite happy to see all the new members. We were a diminishing group, and to have 'new blood' amongst us can only be a good thing.
A few may be planning on selling some medals, but that's life. To me it looks like we have an influx of people who have a real passion for D.Carr's work, and that is also a good thing.
I used to organise the medal hunt each year, the last lot I did was I think 2011. I'm a bit too long in the tooth for that now, and am also cutting back on everything I collect. The 2010 issue was a real 'special' one as it commemorated one of our founding' members, Gary Burke. who passed away in 2009.
So, welcome to all the new members, please join in and post often, let us know any other passions you have.
I guarantee you will make some new and lasting friends here!
-
I had an account back in 2011 that I can't find now but I'm glad to be back again.
While I originally learned of the club through the medals (before they became super popular), I always try to post and contribute. I do think there may be more members if the posts were viewable without needing to be logged in, but perhaps as the medals become more popular, they can help grow the membership now without that being necessary.
I've always loved the medals. My favorite is the 2008 silver proof followed by the antiqued 2009 copper and then the 2007 silver satin. I do have the 2016 in silver hologram which is cool and I'm currently looking at the 63mm 2009 pewter which is massive. Like others have mentioned, I like the classic look of the 2007-2009 pieces.
This year, it might be cool to have a hologram on the classic design.
I'll take:
2x each 39mm silver proof, silver satin (4 total)
1x each 39mm copper proof, copper satin, brass proof, brass satin (4 total)
2x each 2007 eagle, Ike (4 total)
1x each 39mm silver antiqued (1 total)
2x each 39mm silver color toned, DC choice (4 total)
1x each 50mm silver proof, antiqued, color toned, choice (4 total)
-
Many of Daniel Carr's other club medals feature renditions of already existing coins as part of the designs.
I should mention that my preference is not to use the design for another coin. While many coin clubs tend to use designs from existing coins, one thing I love about KOTCT medals is their original designs.

So I would encourage new folks looking to buy a medal or two, also make a donation.
http://membersforum.knightsofthecointable.org/index.php?action=classifieds;sa=view;id=21
Made a donation and now I'm wondering what these "notegelds" are. Do you have any photos of these, just curious? I bet they're cool.
I just made a donation too. Very curious to see these :)
-
Another possible idea is to have 10th Anniversary gold medals. Dan strikes gold medals for some clubs and it's possible that these can bring in additional funds to the club. Just a thought.
-
I'm currently looking at the 63mm 2009 pewter which is massive.
Have you seen one for sale? How much are they asking for it?

Here is an updated order list with the changes of medal types which were made after the email conversation with Daniel Carr. I did the the best that I could to reinterpret the posts of what everyone wanted and apply them to the list with the new medal types. I am sure some of these orders will need to be modified, so please let me know if you would like to add or take away from your order that is listed below.
-
Voyager would like to add two (2) Loose Clad Ike Overstrikes for Castle Treasury Donation. One to keep and one to carry ! Otherwise my order list is absolutely correct ~ Thank You !
-
Jim, put me down for 2 of each of the 50mm designs too.
~Breaks open piggy bank... :'(
-
Also, can you clarify what the Loose Clad Ike Overstrike for Castle Treasury Donation means? If I order 2 of those, will I get 2? I may want to get a few extra.
-
Hello, is it too late to put in orders for the 2017 metals? Is there an order page? Sorry as you can see im new here and haven't had time to figure out how to navigate yet. Thanks BruceS
-
Hi BruceS,
You can click on the image of the "10th Anniversary Medal Order List" Attachment in SirStacksALot's post to see what is available. Then put the number of each one you want to order in your next post. Then you can look at the next list he posts to see if they are listed correctly. That should work.
Hope that helps and glad that you are here !
-
Also, can you clarify what the Loose Clad Ike Overstrike for Castle Treasury Donation means? If I order 2 of those, will I get 2? I may want to get a few extra.
Daniel suggested that we do a clad ike overstrike rather than the 40% Silver Ike overstrike so it would would have a different look than the silver eagle. For the $7, Daniel would supply the Ike dollar, bead blast it, and overstrike it with our anniversary dies. Dan will bulk package them, without the signed coin flip (that is why it says loose) to keep the cost of these ones down. This way we can send them to new members or those who donate in the regular mail with a regular envelope for a decent price. If you order them with your other medals, they will come at the same time. The costs of the Design, Sculpting, and Die Cutting will not be applied to these since the main reason for these is to raise funds for the castle. At $14 each, they will probably be the cheapest medal with half of the cost going to the castle treasury. The other medals will still have the signed coin flip. If you order 2 you will get 2 at $14 each for a total of $28.
It should be a pretty rugged coin being clad, and should hold up well as a pocket piece. Mabye something on hand to show a friend who might like to join the castle.
-
Please update my order:
-- add 2 clad Ikes
-- delete antiqued 2 oz
Thanks!
-
Cool give me 2 more of the clad ikes.
-
Thanks for adding the 2 oz and bi-medal to my order . Please remove the "antiqued" medals. (4). Unlikely any more changes( add/subtract) to my order, unless of course Dan comes up with another interesting idea for the medal.
-
Currently I have 1 each of the 50mm. Bump me up to 2 each of the 50mm.
I hope silver prices don't go up too dramatically from where they are now.
Fingers crossed silver is in decline when we finalize this quest. ;D
-
Here is an updated list.

Ditto to what BruceS said. Glad to be here too! Curious as to what this forum is all about and what I can learn and contribute. About the Carr medals, I'd be in for a couple. What is the cost structure for the various types? Thanks
-
My order looks good, I would like to add a silver/copper bi medal proof. Thanks again.

To get ballpark prices, I looked at last year's Medals: http://membersforum.knightsofthecointable.org/index.php?topic=5122.0
-
Please add one silver brass 50mm to my order . Thanks, Steve
-
Thanks CA collector. Prices seem reasonable if comparable. I'm mainly interested in both bi-metallics and both 2oz'ers though which could be curve balls price wise compared to last years types.
What's the payment regimen? Do we pay now or when the order goes in and how? Thanks.
-
Please add 1 of each to my order
1-07-17 Double reverse
1-2 oz. Silver Proof
Thanks

Payment will be made to the castle treasury via PayPal and the funds will be sent to Daniel Carr once they are collected. I will use a spreadsheet to calculate the prices, and I hope to start on that soon. It will still be a little while before payment is made. The prices will vary depending on how many medals are made. This year we will have to pay for the design, sculpting, and cutting of 2 dies for each size medal, so the cost will be a little higher. That said there are quite a bit more orders this year, so it might even out.
-
Thanks for the info. Count me in for 1 each of both bi-metalic's, 1 each of both 2oz, 1x silver eagle overstrike & 1x Ike overstrike. Might change up or down when pricing in for comes out though If that's ok.
-
Here is an updated order list :)
-
I would like to order 1 of each of this years 2017 KOTCT Anniversary Medals.
-
Please add one each of the 50mm medals to my order. Thanks!

Here is an updated list.
I recently went to the local coin store in my area to buy some more 2007 american eagles for overstrikes. They usually have at least a few tubes of most years, and still sell them at $4 over spot. Unfortunately they told me that 2007 is a hard year to get in nice condition for some reason. I was able to buy 15 nice ones without any dings or gouges that will work well for overstrikes. I looked into ampex but they are quite a bit more expensive, and there is a risk of getting some that are dinged or scratched. We were getting very close to a total of 40 silver eagle overstrikes on the list, which seems like it would be more than I could get a hold of without accruing quite a bit of shipping cost and higher prices. For now, unless I can figure something else out, there will be a limit of 1-2007 eagle overstrike per member. I still have to find a few more for our current order, but it should work out.
-
...For now, unless I can figure something else out, there will be a limit of 1-2007 eagle overstrike per member...
Maybe offer a 2017 eagle overstrike?
-
I may be able to source 2007 ASEs I'll ask around.
-

I did consider 2017 silver eagle overstrikes, but with the price being the same for 2007 silver eagles I thought it would be pretty cool to overstrike 2007s since it is our 10th anniversary. We will see what Matt comes up with, and I will also be looking for some more nice 2007s at a good price.
-
If its not too late,Id like to order a Bimetal copper Silver proof medal
-
Please add 2 of each of the bi metal medals to my order
Thanks
-
Here is an updated order list. Daniel answered quite a few pricing questions for us, and I will be working on the price calculations this week. I will keep everyone posted
-
Awesome. Thanks Stacks. Here's to hoping the ones I chose will be somewhat reasonable lol
-
Here are the current lists with the current lists. The prices are still going to change a little bit but they should be pretty close to the listed numbers.
-
I found a deal on 2 rolls of 2007 ASEs, Jim. ;D
I think they are sealed rolls from a monster box. I'll PM you the details.
-
I feel like part of this thread is missing, I know there was some site problems recently and I find it strange there has not been an update here for awhile, I'm pretty sure there was at least nine pages of comments and now just 8. Anybody else notice this?
-
I know they were doing some site maintenance, last week I believe.
-

You are correct, part of this thread is missing. When the site went down, some of the posts were lost on the forum. I do still have the order information. Thank you to everyone who has sent their information so far. Things are still on track, and it looks like most of the members have their orders in. If you are thinking about changing your order please do so soon, so the price calculations will be right before I set the final prices. Matt has also been able to locate 2 rolls of 2007 silver eagles for overstrikes. I will change the order numbers for those back to where they were before there was a limit of 1 per person. If you would like more than 1 silver eagle overstrike, and you would like to add more, please let me know.
-
...If you would like more than 1 silver eagle overstrike, and you would like to add more, please let me know.
Please adjust my order:
-- Add one more silver eagle overstrike
-- Delete the antique silver 39 mm
Thanks.
-
Adjust mine also please.
-- Add a Silver Eagle Overstrike
-- Delete the 2 Double Reverses
Thanks Jim
-
Please add one (1) additional 2007 Silver Eagle overstrike to my order. Thanks for all of your great work on the 2017 10th Anniversary issue !
-
I'd like a 2nd overstrike as well.
-
Please put me down for a second Silver eagle overstrike. Thank you!
-
Here are the updated spreadsheets. If you asked for more than 1 silver eagle overstrike before a limit of 1 was made, your order has been changed back to the original amount of silver eagle overstrikes.
I still need to verify a few orders, before calculating the final cost of the medals.
-
Hey stacks, what's the word on getting to see a mock up first; Or will the design be a total mailbox surprise?
-
Daniel usually posts some CAD pictures of the design before he cuts the dies. I doubt we will see the design before we collect the funds and send them off to the moonlight mint. It is probably not the way most clubs have medals made, and it takes a while for the process to play out, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. We are pretty lucky that Daniel does these for us, and we don't rush the process. We might have a chance to add to our order after we see the design, but that is not a sure thing.
-
Isn't the plan for the medal to look like the 2007 KOTCT design which can be seen in the upper right corner of the forum page?
Maybe I missed something, but if that's the case not sure we need to see anything from Dan, right?
-
That's what I heard Mike. Its gonna be the 2007 design but reworked or added to or something along those lines
-
Can I still place an order for the 2017 KOTCT medals? Thanks! Frank
-
Frank, you can still order if you do it soon. Just pm the information at the top of the site to me along with what you would like.
As far as the design goes, it will be based on the 2007 design. The amount that it will change will be up to Daniel Carr
-
Starting to get excited... :P
-
PM sent! Thank you :)
-
PM sent Stacks

After quite a bit of number crunching, and order changes over the past week, below is the final cost for each type of medal if silver spot price stays under $17. Silver has been on quite a ride the past month, and currently sits at $15.96. This does give us a little leeway if the price jumps, but not much. If the price does break $17 when Daniel purchases the silver and lets us know the price, each knight will have to make up the difference for each ounce of silver in their order.
Payment from each knight will be made to the treasury, and leftover funds after payment is made to Daniel Carr will stay with the treasury.
I only have one new member that I still need information from. If anyone knows Oih82w8 please ask him to contact me.
I will send an email with your order list and payment instructions as soon as I get them together.

Very good to see the Castle looking like new and so many Knights are still here. Thank you for lowering the drawbridge one more time for me!

Very good to see the Castle looking like new and so many Knights are still here. Thank you for lowering the drawbridge one more time for me!
Welcome back after your long quest.
All 2017 medals can still be ordered as order with Daniel Carr not finalised as yet. See order listing.
-
Quick Update:
I was hoping to get the payment information out this weekend, but it didn't happen. I have 95% of the information done, you should receive an email from me in the next few days.
-
The various designs we used through the years all told a story, at least at that time, but none of them are as classy as the 2008. Daniels 2008 design was in a class all its own and a tribute to the lady collectors! Still my favorite so far.
-
Any more news about the 2017 KOTCT 10th Anniversary Medals?
-
I have received one more check this week, and should be able to deposit it tomorrow. It will be enough to make the final payment to Daniel Carr. Once it clears (probably mid next week), I will send the final payment, and ask for an update via email. Hopefully Daniel has started to work on our medals already.
There are still 2 members that have not repaid after the PayPal refund. I may have to pay for most of the shipping out of my pocket, and try to sell the medals from the two unpaid orders to recover the funds. It is just way too late with all the calculations to change the order numbers now. Hopefully both members will end up following through with the orders and save me a lot more hassle.
I will keep everyone posted as I hear more. :)
-
Hi Jim....you do not need to pay for postage out of your own pocket...let me know how much you need and I will pay.
Can always recoup later.
-
Will gladly make a donation to the Treasury to help defray shipping expenses. Selling any additional medals from orders that remain unpaid should not be difficult.
-
> Will gladly make a donation to the Treasury to help defray shipping expenses.
Same here.
I can also pay for the unpaid medals directly, simply add them to my order.
-
I appreciate the offers, I don't think it will be too much of an issue. If they don't pay by the time they are ready to ship, I will just post what is available here. I have a feeling they will pay by the time the medals come. I just want everyone to know there won't be a shipping delay if the two orders fall through.
-
Now help is here when you need it. Just let us know.
-
SirStacksALot, I am happy to help out with any shipping expenses and also buying any unpaid medals. Thank you for all your help and dedication with this project!
-
Let me know if I can help in any way........and I can't wait to see what Dan comes up with.
-
I am interested in purchasing unpaid 2017 10th Anniversary medals.
Please let me know if any become available.
-
Any news on the design process?
Thanks!
-
I sent an email to Daniel yesterday asking for an update. I will post here as soon as I hear something.
-
Eagerly awaiting news! Thanks for your hard work, Jim!
-
I just received an email response from Daniel so here it is:
"As always seems to be the case, I’ve been occupied with too many things to do and not enough time.
But I’ve finally got everything out of the way that was in front of the 2017 KotCT project.
So I have actually started doing the sculpting work. I don’t have anything to show yet, but soon after Thanksgiving I hope to."
;D ;D ;D
-
Awesome!!!!!!
-
I hope we see them by Easter
-
I hope to see some design ideas from Dan soon! I am excited!
-
Greetings Knights,
I have re-sculpted the King from 2007. The details have been enhanced and there has been some overall uncluttering of the design. I liked the globes but they were redundant since the 2008 reverse started using them. So I removed them from the obverse. I like the simpler (cleaner) layout. I have also re-sculpted portions of the reverse and, although it doesn't look a lot different, I have done some things to make it easier to strike. Here are the current renderings:

I like it, one suggestion I have is, shouldn't the horse be wearing armor too? Thoughts...
-
Yep...you got it.....does it need to mention our 10th Anniversary 2007-2017
-
I agree with the need for the horse to have some armor as well. Also, it definitely should mention 2007-2017 10th Anniversary or something. Great job so far Dan!
-
Nice Job Daniel, I agree that the horse would look good with armor. I also agree the date should be written 2007-2017. Thanks for posting the renderings. :)
-
...it definitely should mention 2007-2017 10th Anniversary or something. Great job so far Dan!
Generally I'm not a fan of dual-dates.
Instead, maybe an "10th Anniversary" edge inscription?
-
Armor on the horse for sure. On the reverse, the top scroll 10th Anniversary insted of repeating "Knights of the Coin Table" as that is already on the obverse.
-
>>> Armor on the horse for sure. On the reverse, the top scroll 10th Anniversary insted of repeating "Knights of the Coin Table" as that is already on the obverse.
Or the other way around ?
I think any "10th Anniversary" reference should be on the obverse since the reverse die will be used for subsequent years ?
-
Agree......sounds good to me.
Can hardly wait to have medals in my hand.
-
Agree......sounds good to me as well.
-
I agree, all 10th Anniversary references should be on the obverse so we can use the same reverse die again. I like the idea of 10th Anniversary in the top banner. Depending on how the letters fit in the banner it could say:
"10th Anniversary - Knights of the Coin Table"
"10th Anniversary 2007-2017"
"10th Anniversary Est. 2007"
"10th Anniversary Estd 2007"
"10th Anniversary - KotCT"
"Knights of the Coin Table Est. 2007"
or just "10th Anniversary"
I think the best wording would depend on how it looks with the spacing when placed in the banner. Maybe it will be more apparent what will look the best if Daniel just tries a few options in the banner.
-
maybe just below the sword 2017 on the right side and even with 2017 on the left side 2007. Just a thought.
-
Just a personal preference, but I like the spot that 2017 is at in the original picture. I think 2017 on the left by itself balances out the sword on the right.
-
I like it..... :)

Oh yeah... :)

I think on the globe where australia is it should be rotated around to put us smack bang in the middle..or at least moved so it shows the east coast as that's where all the really really important people are..isn't that right Steve :o LMAO
-
Ok, here is horse armor and banner text change (and "DC" added):

Here is what it could look like as bi-metallic (silver center and brass ring):

No, looks good just as it is I think. :)
-
Looking good Daniel. :)
-
Yes I agree and think the armour makes the horse look so much better.
::) Yeah you would say that but then what would you know STEVE :P LOL. All good mate I'm just stirring..yeah something different for me I know ;D
-
The armor on the horse looks amazing ;D. I think the main design looks perfect with the Tenth Anniversary scrolled on the banner. Great job Daniel.
As far as the outside ring goes, I think it would look a lot better, and match the theme a lot more if we go with the original idea of alternating Shields and Swords around the medal. We could use the coat of arms of the 12 knights of the round table like the ones in the picture, and have a broadsword in between each shield to make the spacing right.
-
Are there any individual high-resolution images of the 12 shields available ?
-
I will look for some, I just found those with a quick Google search.
-
That is one cool medal, it looks awesome, great job Mr. Carr. Two thumbs up !!!
-
I think the reverse design is perfect.
Agree with armor for the horse. How about moving "2017" from 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock to balance obverse design?
How about castle in distant background?
How is Knight holding the lance or sword?
-
I'm not having much luck finding high resolution images of the 12 Shields from the knights of the round table. Can anyone help with this? The images that I have found seem to vary a bit.
-

Good eye on the sword, didn't pick that up.
Medal is starting to come together.
I wouldn't mind seeing a version with a castle in the background but it might start to make the medal too cluttered.
Great work Mr. Carr!
-
Oh, and I love the outer ring, great suggestion!
-
They look great.......well done
-
With castle:

I vote with castle. It's a winner!
Thanks DC.
-
They really look great!
-
The Castle looks good, and not cluttered at all. Is it possible to put a medieval brick texture on the castle, and a different texture on the tower roofs? Mabye some Archer windows in the Castle walls?
Thanks for taking the time to tweak our medal to take it from good to great ;D
-
Looking good Daniel.
How come the DC signature instead of your normal logo?
Just curious.
-
I must say castle does work. Thumbs up!
-
I like the castle as well, especially if you incorporate Jim's suggestions. Great job!
-
Great suggestions. Medal looks awesome Daniel, especially the bimetallic version. Can’t wait to get mine.
-
Whew, that is a lot of little rocks to sculpt:
-
Looking good Daniel.
Now we have a few collectors of coins with birds on them.
Can you add a few birds in the sky or an eagle perched on a tower.
Now before you say anything, I'm just kidding. LOL.
-
Mate, now that looks superb 8) Amazing how a few smaller details can make such a huge difference, well done.
-
Honestly, I like the design either way but I think the castle and castle wall without the rocks looks cleaner. IMHO, the addition of the rocks makes the bottom half of the obverse design seem busy because it already has the grass and the two outer rings.
However, I am open to adding a few Damsels-in-Distress waving from the castle. Kidding.
Either way, great work by DC.
-
PERFECT............ ;D
-
Great job Daniel ;D. I think it looks perfect. The addition of the medieval brickwork looks great. Ready for dies.....
On another note, a couple members have asked to add to their orders. I asked Daniel if this was possible if we do it quickly, and he said yes. Since we are so far along, I will take any additions to your existing order, or new orders until this Friday December 15. Yes that is less than a week :o Payment will also be due on Friday December 15. Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to add to your order either by PM or in this thread. I have attached the prices again for anyone interested.
-
The die engraving is done. Next is the heat-treating (hardening). And I'll need to start fabricating blanks.
But I have just realized that there is one problem with the order.
The first year (2007) medal dies were sculpted and engraved by me, but they were struck by Regency Mint in Utah.
This was because I didn't get my coin press going until 2008. Because the 2007 dies had to fit in Regency's coin press, they were engraved on Columbia style die blanks. After the 2007 medals were struck, I did get the dies back from Regency. In 2008 when I engraved dies for that year's medal, I used US Mint style die blanks because those fit my coin press. Because the 2007 dies didn't fit my coin press at the time, and because I don't like to have old dies sitting around (I view them as a liability in case they fell into the wrong hands), at some point the 2007 KotCT dies were defaced and scrapped. So I have no 2007 obverse die to make the 32 silver "2007-2017 Double Obverse" strikes. That would have been a neat piece, but I think we will need to come up with an alternative. Here are some ideas:
Blank reverse with some counter-stamping (such as "Knights of the Coin Table / 2007-2017"). Also, this could be struck with a reeded edge while all others would be smooth edge (with edge lettering on silver).
Instead of the blank reverse die, I could use this generic die that has a blank section across the middle for imprinting:
Or this Stonehenge die which I still have:

I think the Stonehenge option is a great idea. The other design is just too plain compared to the 2017 KotCT design. I would also prefer a reeded edge since the Stonehenge medal says 1 Troy ounce 999 silver. It should be an interesting medal, even though it wasn't the original idea.
-
Wasn't there a Stonehenge obverse that said 1 Penny? I think that one might be cooler, I don't know. Either way it should make for an interesting medal. Too bad the original idea didn't pan out, but c'est la vie.
-
I also like the Stonehenge Obverse.
But for the Reverse, I'd prefer the KOTCT design. Is that easily do-able?
-
I'm not happy.
Sorry I don't like either "RECOMMENDED" design changes.
-

Dennis, after reading your PM, I think you misunderstood what Daniel is proposing. A total of 4 dies (39mm Obverse and Reverse, and 50mm Obverse and Reverse) are being made. The only option affected by this is the 07-17 Double Reverse for which you have ordered 1. It was going to use the original 2007 die which is not available. The only extra cost Daniel was charging us for this type was a proof polish, and half setup.
This does not affect the 2007 silver eagle over strikes. They 2007 Eagles are currently at the Moonlight Mint, and will be struck with the 2 new dies.
If you still do not want the double reverse mule with Stonehenge on one side and the new die on the other, this is not a problem. I can refund the $35 to you. I did get a PM with interest in ordering some with the Stonehenge Design on one side.
-

That is the idea, 2017 KotCT die on one side, Stonehenge die on the other. This would replace the 07-17 Double Reverse 39mm Silver.
-

Yes, I do also have available a "One Penny" Stonehenge die. The "Two Pounds" die is appropriate for 1-troy-oz silver medals because it is marked as such.
I have a bunch of silver blanks on order, and I won't be able to strike until I get them (but I will be fabricating the bi-metallic blanks myself).
So there is still time to adjust orders and quantities as desired.
I can offer the following options, and KotCT can decide which one(s) to make available:
Note that the 2017 obverse has no specific reference to "Knights of the Coin Table" and neither does the Stonehenge dies. For any of these I could use a reeded edge or a smooth edge with edge lettering "Knights of the Coin Table" and "2007 - 2017" (or similar).
-
Also note that the Stonehenge dies do not have a full proof-like finish and I don't think I want to do any more polishing on them because the current finish looked best when I last used those dies in 2012.
-
Personally I like this option in silver with a reeded edge (1 side KotCT shield, 1 side Stonehenge). This would replace the 07-17 Double reverse 39mm Silver. Proof or satin for the shield side would be fine, what ever you think would look best Daniel.
I think we should skip the copper unless there would be a lot of demand for it since it would require another die setup, and cost more than the regular copper. Also it would create quite a bit of extra work for me as far as keeping track of everything on the spreadsheets, and adding new columns on all of the spreadsheets, and changing all of the formulas. That said if a lot of people want both I will do it.
If you would like to add some of these to your order (or pull some off of your order and get refunded for them) please PM me, and be ready to pay for them by Wednesday December 27.
Thoughts on the Silver Stonehenge / KotCT Shield with a reeded edge?
-
I vote for the first option with Stonehenge reverse.
-
...I think we should skip the copper...
...Thoughts on the Silver Stonehenge / KotCT Shield with a reeded edge?
I'm changing my vote in favor of the Stonehenge/Knight-on-horseback design. That keeps important elements ("2017" and "Tenth Anniversary") on a face.
And although I generally prefer a reeded edge, I think this design needs an edge-inscription ("Knights of the Coin Table") -- which requires a smooth edge, right?
Also I agree: Skip the copper version.
-
I'm liking the Knight on horseback obverse with the 2 pound Stonehenge reverse.
What would be the cost for these?
-
The cost is $35. I'm ok with the Knight on horseback since it seems to be getting more votes. I would prefer the reeded edge rather than an edge inscription though.
Reeded edge or Smooth with "Knights of the Coin Table" inscription?
-
I agree: Knight on horseback/Stonehenge, and reeded edge.
Thanks!
-
Dang, I wish I had ordered a couple of those..... :'(
-
I kinda like them both lol. The knight horse and stonehedge prolly a slight favorite.
-
Me 2......
-
Knight on Horseback with Stonehenge for me !
-
Maybe the shield and Stonehenge could be the start of our 2018 medals?
-
I like the knight and Stonehenge.
Perhaps we could consider a (KOTCT) counter stamp on the obverse?
-
I like the knight on horseback and Stonehendge in Silver, skip the copper. This will replace the double reverse 07-17 option as originally planned. I still want 2 total of each medal, whatever option we go with.
Thanks!
-
If you would like to add some of these to your order (or pull some off of your order and get refunded for them) please PM me, and be ready to pay for them by Wednesday December 27.
Do we have pricing and options yet for what appears to additional design type for the 2017 club medal since the proposed payment date is tomorrow?

I will make something up so everyone knows what they ordered, and what is available. I ment to do it a few days ago, but things just because too busy for the holidays. Check back in about an hour or two.
-
After looking at all of the posts of what people would prefer to replace the 2007/2017 dual reverse medal, it looks like the new knight on horseback design paired with the Stonehenge design with a reeded edge is the most popular option. It will be a 39mm silver medal just like the other medal would have been. There will be one type of this medal and Daniel can pick the finish of the knight die (satin or proof) which will match the Stonehenge die the best.
I have also attached a spreadsheet so everyone will know how many of this design they have ordered. If you would like to change your order of this medal, please let me know by tomorrow 12-27-2017. The cost will be the same as the original, which is $35. I hope this clarifies things, if you have questions please let me know. These medals will not change the order for any of the other medal type.
-
I'll keep my order the same as it was, replacing the 2 Stonehenge medals for the 2 dual reverse.

I thought I had ordered one of the 39mm silver satin medals, and it does not show up on your recent Stonehenge list. Would you please post the entire spreadsheet when you get a chance? Thanks!

I will post it once it is updated, I don't want to create any more confusion by posting an outdated sheet. Silver fan, your order is for 1 Silver Satin (Knight on 1 side, shield on the other), 1 Silver Eagle overstrike, 1 silver/brass, and 1silver/copper. You did not have one of the double reverse which is now the Stonehenge/Knight on horseback medal. Let me know if you would like to add one. The silver satin that you ordered is the main 2017 design.

Take your time Jim... Your doing a fine job at this very time consuming chore.

I'll second that. :)

Thanks for everything, Jim. Any update as far as when the medals will be struck?
Thanks!

This is the email reply I received from Daniel on December 29 after paying for the additional Stonehenge medals:
"Got it, thanks !
PS:
The dies have been heat-treated (hardened). Bead-blasting and polishing is next."
That's the latest that I know :)
-
Very cool medal! Thanks for all the time and work to make these available
-
Hey guys, lost my password when my phone crashed so I haven't logged in in a while but just found it saved on my tablet. Can't wait to see the medals and get them in hand! I'm a bit bummed though that I had to reduce my order due to financial problems back when ordering. If anyone got any extras of the copper bi-metal and would like to send it to a fellow knight who can afford it now let me know please. Out of the ones I had to cancel that's the one I'm kicking myself over :(
-
Any update since the last on posted on Jan 5th?
Thanks for your hard work Jim!
Matt
-
The last email I received from Daniel was on January 15th, and he said that he planned on striking our medals as soon as the blanks came.
-
I have been locked out (not locked away) for a while, I noticed that my name was still on the list Dec 2017, is it too late to settle up?

I don't have the records with me right now, but I thought everyone except for one had paid for thier order. I'll check the records tomorrow. You might have also paid Barry before PayPal held up our funds. Mabye Barry might be able to look it up faster than I can.

Jim,
I am moving in mid February, I will PM you my new address.
Thanks,
Matt
-
Will you still be hiding in Oregon ?
-
Yep, just moving to the country a little! ;D
-
I see he has NEW stuff up....any word on our stuff?
-
Greetings Knights,
I realize that the 2017 medals are long overdue.
I've been working on the blanks and I had to come up with some procedures and special tooling to fabricate the 50mm bi-metallic planchets. I have not made any bi-metallic blanks that large before now. But the blanks are ready. So I will start striking the 2017 KotCT medals later today. Due to the overall quantity and the myriad of different versions the striking will take a few days.
-
That's what I'm talking about.... ;D
-
Awesome! :) :D ;D 8)
-
Looking forward to receiving my medals! :)
-
Is anyone else super pumped for these medals? Thanks to all involved!
-
ABSOLUTELY ~ They may very well be Daniel's best creation yet !

I would actually love to have the 10th Anniversary obverse with a Daniel Carr Test Pattern reverse! Any chance of making some of those? :)
By the way, I can't wait to receive mine and I love the discussion on these forums.

That's a cool idea, unfortunately I think we are way past the point of changing orders without delaying the medals. Hopefully Daniel will be shipping them soon :)
-
I have finally been able to strike some of the 50mm medals. I'm doing those first since they are the hardest. I have had trouble getting a full strike on the perimeter. I have found that I have to strike first in the collar, at near the load limit of the 400-ton press. Then at somewhat reduced force I broad-strike over that. The result looks more like a normal strike than a broad-struck, and the perimeter details are better. The overall diameter comes out to about 51mm, however. I will do all 50mm medals the same way. I will be back at it tomorrow to finish the 50mm medals. Then I will do the 39mm medals (which should go smoothly since I've done many like them before).
-
Thanks Daniel ~ Do you think you could send us an image at some point ? All of your great work is greatly appreciated ! 8)
-
Not that my opinion means much as a newbie member, but 2008 was my favorite and the one I've managed too collect the most varieties of to date . Being a 10th anniversary though it probably should be something special :)
Hello Bigpoppa :P
-
I was finally able to stamp (and edge mark) all the 50mm medals. There were considerable challenges at every step: making the blanks (I can't buy these pre-made so I have to make them myself- including the bi-metallic); polishing the dies (it was difficult to polish just the middle part without affecting the outer ring area); striking (all sorts of issues and I had to resort to a number of tricks); edge marking (they kept slipping while in the edge marking machine).
But they came out pretty nice. Now on to the 39mm medals which should be much simpler and faster to produce.
-
Thanks for the update Daniel ~ When you say the came out "pretty nice", that means a lot 8).
-
I've been feeling the ground shaking a little here in Indiana....I'm wondering if what I'm feeling is Daniel is pounding out the rest of the medallions?
-
Hello knights, any updates on delivery time frames?. We must be getting close.
-
I'm guessing any day now.
-
I haven't heard anything since Daniel's last post on the 17th. Hopefully soon :)
-
I didn't want to interrupt my production of the KotCT medals, but I had to go on a road trip for several days and then had car trouble which delayed my return by several more days.
But I have now been able to strike all of the proof-like 39mm medals, uniface medals, and Stonehenge medals. Due to the revised reverse (shield) engraving, they struck up more easily than before, but for some reason the medals wanted to stick to the reverse die. So after every strike I had to pry them off by hand (very carefully - so as not to damage them in any way!).
So at this point what I have left to do is:
Striking the 39mm satin-finish medals.
Edge marking the 39mm silver medals.
Antiquing the 39mm and 50mm medals.
Printing and hand-signing of 628+ certificates.
Inserting medals and certificates into the "flip" holders.
Shipping.
I am going to work on nothing else this weekend so that I can finish everything.
I will need confirmation of the address where to ship them.
Since there is about 628 medals, a single package containing them all would be too heavy.
So there will have to be at least two separate packages.
Another option (and I realize that this is short notice), if any person(s) would be willing to come pick up the medals in person, I could give them a tour of the mint and conduct demonstrations, etc. If that is not an option at this time, then perhaps a KotCT meeting and tour at my mint could still be arranged for some date in the future.
-
> perhaps a KotCT meeting and tour at my mint could still be arranged for some date in the future.
Yes, please!
Thank you for all that you do, Dan.
- Eric
-

I should add that if some person(s) were to come pick up the medals in person, they could stay for a tour. But that would not preclude the possibility of another general KotCT meeting and tour at some later date.

PS:
There is one other issue that needs to be decided upon:
Since the Stonehenge die already indicates "ONE TROY OZ . 999 SILVER", it was not necessary to mark that on the edge of the Stonehenge medals. So the intent was to mint the Stonehenge medals with a reeded edge. However, since the two dies were never originally intended to go together, the geometry of the rims caused a somewhat jagged outer rim edge when using a reeded collar. Think of it as a wire rim with a reeded edge (which creates sort of a saw-tooth effect). So the couple that I struck with a reeded edge have already been melted and I struck the full order with a smooth edge because those came out better.
Also of note is that nowhere on the Stonehenge medals does it indicate "Knights of the Coin Table" or similar. Since the edge is smooth, I thought perhaps I could mark something to that effect on the edge. But unfortunately "KNIGHTS OF THE COIN TABLE" is 25 characters and my edge-marking press only holds 24 characters. So a possibility would be to mark the edges of the Stonehenge medals with "KNIGHT OF THE COIN TABLE" .
-
How about, "KOTCT 2007-2017 10 YEARS"
-
How about, "KOTCT 2007-2017 10 YEARS"
That is certainly possible, although the banner above the Knight on the obverse already states "10th Anniversary".
-
Hi Daniel,
Maybe something like "CASTLE KOTCT 2017" (without quotes of course)
Their is a lot of reference to the group and site as this and I don't recall it ever being used on a medallion before.

I would prefer "CASTLE KOTCT", since the obverse already states 2017. (I agree! - TKOâ„¢)
Daniel, I have all the funds, and addresses to ship everything to the individual members, and I will email you my shipping address. I would love to come out to see the mint sometime (with as many members as possible), unfortunately it's just not feasible for me to head to Colorado this month. Thank you for the offer of a tour, hopefully some of us can take you up on that offer sometime.
Thank you for the progress update, I'm really excited to see the final product. Would it be too much to ask for some sneak preview in process pictures posted to this thread?

Will not be long now, before they get shipped. They are nice and like many, wished I ordered more. Well, it won't be long before we are thinking about the 2018 medals.. :)
-
Hi Jim,
Do we have an updated final order sheet? Comparing the one I found and Daniel's website with mintage figures, it looks like there are more minted than requested? I am sure I am not looking at the latest order sheet.
Thanks,
Matt
-
Here is the most updated order list, along with the list of the actual number of medals that were ordered. The intention was to have one extra of each medal ordered just in case someones order is lost in shipping. There will be 2 extra on 3 of them because of late order changes, and the 2 extra stonehenge are already spoken for (if there are no shipping problems) by someone who just barely missed the last minute orders. Daniel gave us a great deal on 100 of the clad overstrikes, so quite a few of those will be available, and I bought 8 more 2007 silver eagles than we needed so they were all struck. The numbers in red are changes to the first "final" numbers.
Excluding the clad Ike strikes, there will be 21 extra medals if there are no shipping problems. Depending on how much the shipping costs are to all the individual knights, these will either be sold to fund the treasury, or we can have some giveaway contests here at the castle. It will probably be a combination of both.
Anything above the numbers that are on the final order sheet attached below are medals that Daniel has stamped for himself. Any that he makes for himself are not included in our order numbers.
Hopefully it all makes sense, my head has been spinning for quite a while trying to keep track of all of these medals.
-
Here is a production update:
All the medals have been struck and edge-marked. I am currently working on the antiquing of the 39mm silver and 50mm silver. The medals for that have also been struck and edge-marked - now comes the work of applying the antique finish by hand. After that the only thing left is making the certificates and packaging.
I had previously produced a couple 50mm medals with a brass center and copper ring. I made those test strikes because I wanted to see how they would come out and I had some spare components (39mm brass blank centers and 50mm copper blank rings). After I posted a picture of some 50mm medals (including the two brass/copper), there apparently was some interest in them.
Rather than scrap those two brass/copper medals, as well as some other components and failed/defective strikes that I had, I decided that I would try to make one 50mm brass/copper medal to give to each Knight. Due to the hardness of the metal and the large diameter, they were quite difficult to strike. It didn't help matters that the thickness of the brass and copper components varied. Sometimes the center would be fully struck and the outer ring would lack much of the detail, or the other way around. As with the other 50mm medals, I tried additional broad-striking to attain full detail. I decided that I would have to blowtorch (anneal) them between strikes. Both metals (brass and copper) will discolor when heated. A few of the medals I cleaned after the blowtorching but before the final broad-striking. Since I like to experiment, I also decided to see what would happen if I broad-struck a medal that was still discolored from the blow-torching. The results were interesting. The annealing did allow full strikes to be produced. A few of them are bright with the semi-proof-like finish. The rest have all sorts of different appearances from rather dark to somewhat hazy with slightly pastel color. Some also have minting defects such as an off-center inner circle or a small straight clip on the outer copper ring.
So I am going to ship these (37 ?) medals with the rest of the order (except that I will hold onto the two that I will pass along in person to Usarok and Sir Jackpot with the rest of their orders).
Since these medals very widely in appearance (I would say that none of them are unattractive), I suggest that the "bonus" medal for each Knight be picked at random. What you get is what you get. The two I held back for Usarok and Sir Jackpot were already selected at random.
-
Daniel, that was really generous and VERY awesome of you!!!
Jim, thanks for the explanation. Makes perfect sense!
-
Wow, thank you for your generosity Daniel, I can't wait to see the experiments. I will pull them at random and add one to each order. Thank you for the update. ;D
-
Thank you very much Daniel. :)
you are indeed very generous.

"Good things come to those who wait." Thank you Daniel 8) and everyone who made the final design of this very special 10th Anniversary Medal possible !
-
To Jim and all that made this happen, THANK YOU !! You put in lots of hours that we don't even know about. Then you had to deal with the PayPal fiasco plus orders changing from time to time. Thanks again for the hard work.
Thank you Dan for the Special Piece, can't wait to see them in hand.

So I know I missed the original purchase opportunity and if there are any extra coins that may come up for sale I would like to put my name on that list to buy if there is any list to be had. Thank you.

You can have one of the extra silver proof medals that I bought at the same price we all paid, and there will be a 2007 Silver eagle set aside for you if you want one of the extra 8. There will also be Clad Ike overstrikes available. The rest will have to wait until all of the orders are shipped and recieved. PM me if you are interested in the Proof silver, 2007 Silver eagle overstrike, and/or a clad ike overstrike.

This is for all you "Knights" that have been here since 2007...:)
I haven't figured out how to make the photos large, any help would be appreciated.

You just need to double click on it.

Being out of the loop for a while I am still catching up and would like to know how many medallions have the "Stonehenge" reverse? I am very impressed with design and if I am not getting one I do hope someone out there will have one for sale. Appreciate an answer to my question and hopefully and opportunity to purchase one from one of you Knights or Knightesses!
-
Terry, you didn't order one of the Stonehenge medals, but I will see if I can get a hold of any extras. If not you can have one of mine.

Dan has the ANTIQUED numbers up which completes the page on mintages.... :)

Good news, Daniel made 10 more of the Stonehenge medals for us, so one is yours Terry. They will be the same price that we all paid (I will update this later with the price, I don't have the price chart on me). The intention for these is to give those who missed the chance to have a Stonehenge medal to be able to buy one. PM me if you would like one of the Stonehenge medals, and don't already have one ordered. I would like to keep it to one per person who doesn't have one ordered for now.
There was also a status update in the email:
"At this point, all medals are done. I am now working on the certificates and packaging."
So we are getting pretty close to having medals in hand ;D

Thanks! Just let me know how much they are and where to send the money. Appreciate the chance to get one. It may become my new favorite!!!

So we are getting pretty close to having medals in hand ;D
Hi Jim,
I just sent you an email with my new mailing address. I hope I'm not late.
It's not too late Renal, I will update the address and reply to your email sometime today.
I will also try to gather together the information about the orders for the extra Stonehenge medals when I have time by this weekend. I will answer the PM's as I add them to your orders if you did request one of the extra 10.

Barry, Daniel did ask that we start a section and thread for the 2018 medals, but I can't do it from my phone.... Can you please make it happen?
-
Thread menu item established.....2018 Mdallion Quest
-
Dan Carr makes such quality material, yes, I am rather excited to see them!
-
The medals have arrived, and the sorting has begun :) :) :). My goal is to have them packaged and shipped by this weekend, but some may ship next week. There is quite a bit of work to do, and I want to make sure they are packed securely. The silver eagle overstrikes came out amazing, the 2007 peaks out of the bottom of the strike. Thanks for all of your hard work Daniel, there are a lot of very cool variations.
-
Looking good, the 2007 ASE is too cool.... :)
-
Awesome!
-
Wow they look amazing! Jim thank you for all your hard work on this project! :D
-
Great project! That's an amazing amount of medals!
-
Quick update: I have sorted all of the medals down to each members order. I was able to package and ship 6 of them today. I will keep working on getting all of the orders packaged before sending emails with tracking info.

Most of the packages have shipped. There are a few packages left that I had questions that need to be answered before shipping. I will post tracking numbers here later tonight.
-
Last year I sent out emails to everyone with tracking numbers. This year there were quite a few more packages than last year, so I am going to try posting the USPS tracking numbers here. PM me if you have any questions or if your tracking number is not working.

Medals received!
Thanks Jim for all the work you put into this quest.
The medals look great. Daniel Carr did another excellent job.

I'm grateful for the security provided by shipping via registered mail, but it sure is SLOW! I want to see my medals and drool over them!

How does your "special" medal look?
-
Here is mine, brass inner, semi PL, copper outer...
-
Also, it is a bit antiqued ~ a nice companion to the 2 ounce silver antiqued version ...
-
The medals arrived today: I am a happy Knight.
I love the 2-oz coins.
I'll send better photos this weekend.

Received my order today. Very pleased!
The bimetallic copper/brass medal is a much-appreciated bonus...

Mine were in Detroit yesterday, and they were delivered today> I'm in PA

Excellent! I received notice that "Notice Left (No Authorized Recipient Available)" That is good with me, at least it was not a drop and run. I will stop by the post and pick them up on Saturday.

Mine are currently sitting about 50 miles from my house! I can't wait! ;D
-
I have to admit, after receiving my medallions today, the two ounce silvers are impressive! Can't wait to see what a 3 ounce medallion will look like this year!
-
Received my medals today.
Thanks to SirStacksALot for all his work to make this so smooth a transaction! The packaging was so expertly done that my medals would have survived any catastrophe to make it safely into my hands. Thank you Daniel for continuing to display your talents and imagination as an artist.
The medals were beautiful! The design, which was a culmination of suggestions by you and many of the members, was deserving of a tenth anniversary commemorative medal. Look forward to seeing what you do for 2018.
-
Got my medals yesterday! Just amazing! Took until today to open them! Very well packed, thanks Jim! Let me know before you purchase packing supplies again, so I can purchase stock in U-Line!
-
Dan, Thank you for the exceptional medals as well as the surprise bonus coppers!

I received my medals last week. Friday the 13th was a GREAT day!! Thank you Dan for some beautiful medals and thank you Jim for the awesome packing and shipping! I was totally floored how well the order arrived. Packed with TLC and sent securely by registered mail. The Stonehenge medals were awesome...so glad you had extra! I was floored by the bonus medal that Dan sent for us. It was way nicer than I could have imagined! I can't thank you all enough for your hard work and dedication to this project! I am excited looking forward to what 2018 will bring us! Thank you again! Frank (aka Workforcoins).
-
Does anyone know if Elves is still collecting coins? My medals were in Memphis the 13th left the 15th. Now the USPS says they have been unexpectedly delayed!. I could have sent my old hound dog out there and she would have been back by now. ;) You would think I live way up in the Appalachian mountains or something the way the postal serves treats me. ;D ;D ;D
-
I think enough time has passed, and pictures have been posted. Just so everyone knows, Daniel decided to strike a copper 1p Stonehenge copper medal for each member who ordered medal. This is in addition to the 50mm experimental copper/brass medal. We did not order any of these, and they are not something that we paid for. He wanted the copper stonegenge to be a surprise, and that is why they were not mentioned. So everyone that ordered medals before they were minted were given two extra medals by Daniel that we did not pay for.
Thank you so much for your generosity Daniel, the 2017 anniversary medals came out amazing.
-
WOW....Got my medals today and they are awesome, I love them all.
HUGE THANKS to all who helped in this offering. Jim for your effort and time we all thank you, hell of a job !!
Dan, awesome quality and a BIG THANKS for the 2 extra medals.
That's funny Jim, I was going to contact you and tell you I got an extra medal, the Brass Stonehenge. I was going to send it back or send you some more money... :)
It's truly an honor to be a KotCT member, thanks for having me.
Hoot

1 Ounce Antiqued Silver.

Received my medals in mail today.....WOW! worth the wait.
Daniel did us proud as usual.
Took me 1/2 hour to undo the package and it had a stamp on it..... " IMPROPER TAPE USED"
Looks like this was done in by US post......Australian Customs would have put it thru x-ray machine and not worried.
Thanks again Daniel and Jim for all your hard work in making this anniversary special.
-
I'm still waiting, but everything takes longer to get to Western Australia (we say W.A. means wait awhile).
I tracked the package and it went via Dubai to Melbourne, so it just about flew over my head on it's way there. :(

The way that Jim packages his shipments, they could have just dropped it out of the plane on the way over and it would have been just fine!

It's funny they stamped the box with improper tape used. I've been using that brown tape from Uhaul for registered packages for a couple years now. The last time I was in the post office, the girls at the counter said they got in trouble because the tape was too shiny. I am going to have to use a different tape next time. They usually tape the boxes for registered mail, but I wanted tape them so I could reinforce the edges with fiber tape. Any fiber or clear tape has to be covered by brown paper tape.
-
Yeah they want the brown tape with strings in it! Already been through it with my post office! Guess they call it shipping tape! lol
-
Got mine. Thanks guys!
-
My medals were split into two shipments and both flew thru UK customs without any issues or fees to be paid.
Many thanks to Jim of doing that for me and to Dan for minting the medals for us.
-
I'm starting to worry about my medals now. They left Melbourne 10 days ago and still haven't arrived. :(
-
That is why it is called 'snail mail' buddy
-
I'm starting to worry about my medals now. They left Melbourne 10 days ago and still haven't arrived. :(
No worry's Steve, if your package is lost, we have some extras that can replace what is lost. The only 2017 packages left to deliver are Yours, and Renal's. Can you please check with you post office to see if they can locate it? The USPS tracking scans do not all show up once the packages go overseas.
-
I have logged an enquiry with Auspost online. Now just have to wait and see if we get a positive outcome.
-
I should have waited one more day.
Parcel arrived today.
Jim, thanks for all your efforts in making
these medal happen and thanks to Dan
for the extra freebie.
