Do you or anybody else have an idea if coins with a center hole are still made or when the last was produced ?
In Belgium it must have been around 1955 because I remember the magical trick of putting an elastic tru the coin
 showing it
 releasing it
 and wow it was gone

In Greek mythology Europa (/jʊˈroʊpə, jə-/; Greek: Εὐρώπη Eurṓpē) was the mother of King Minos of Crete, a woman with Phoenician origin of high lineage,[1] and for whom the continent Europe was named. The story of her abduction by Zeus in the form of a white bull was a Cretan story; as classicist Károly Kerényi points out, "most of the love-stories concerning Zeus originated from more ancient tales describing his marriages with goddesses. This can especially be said of the story of Europa

100 FF from A the Paris mint
 Augustine Dupré
During the last days of the monarchy Augustine won a competition with the desing of a Lucky Angel

It has a kind of angel - neutered - writing the constitution on a tablet in french they call it a Genie
The wooden bundle on the left is a Roman symbol of power Fasces https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasces
The rooster is a symbol of valor and the eye is the highest point of the coin for graders

The story has it that Augustine was going to loose his head to the guillotine but that he bribed
his guards with a 20ff gold coin whence the name lucky angel http://www.coinweek.com/bullion-report/the-extraordinary-legend-of-the-french-angel-coin/

The design of the coin was used by later mint masters
The one shown is produced by Barre

The ECU was for long an electronic payment without exchange risk in Europe
I do not think that circulating coins were ever issued
But there were many pattern coins and gold coins
For political reasons when the time came to make circulating coins the name Euro was selected
and 1 Ecu became 1 Euro

This is the first coin I ever ''collected.'' I got it as a christmas gift from an aunt in the year it was minted.
I have always kept this coin, even when I (had to) sell an earlier collection many years ago.
-
I still have my first coin too.
A George III penny from 1806,
 that my father gave me.
 Slightly out of alphabetical order
if I post it here, but what the heck.
My father found it when he was a lad
on the bottom of a creek.

We took a slight diversion there for a while and that's OK.
Now back on track with Guinea-Bissau 1952 2.5 Escudos.

A curious snippet re the 1671 Crown.  I like to get the KM# or Y# for all my coins, and this one had me stumped for a while until I saw England in the Alpha list in Numista, and there it was.  Couldn't find it in UK though, and there's no GB in Numista.  ??? ::)

 Sneaky eh?  :P

I guess that makes sense, as the UK wasn't formed until 1707.
Would have thought Great Britain would have been in the list though,
as the title is United Kingdom of Great Britain etc.

The broken cross on that 2 filler solves a 20 year old discussion of mine
It is said that the emperor during one of the many wars ordered his crown buried and it got damaged digging it up

On the other hand there were those that said the designer ran out of space and had to break the cross to get it on the 100 korona coin your coin has space enough so it must have been damaged

 100 korona 1908 attached

				Very interesting info, thanks PYW.

I'd never really noticed the broken cross before.  I just checked and I have 7 Hungarian coins with that reverse design and the cross is broken on all of them.

What is the thing in the middle ? A hole with a different background or a bimetal ?
I never heard about 1 pice as monetary denomination

-
That's just a hole in the coin and the background cardboard showing through.

 India - British - Rupee (1862-1947)
 3 pies = 1 pice • 4 pices = 1 anna • 16 annas = 1 rupee
