Title: UK set
Post by: AnotherKnight on May 19, 2016, 11:23:56 AM
YAY, had a very nice surprise from my mate Steve that sent me this lovely little UK set that I really like so I was pretty happy when I opened it up to see this, sorry for the poor pick but I'll get them out of the bags soon and into 2x2's so might take a better pic when I do  :) Wish our government/mint would do something like this. And a huge thanks to Ken  :D

You are more than welcome for the coins since I know you helped Triggersmob get something for me.

The round one pounds will start to be withdrawn from circulation in 2017.

So that's the end of the sets, oh well it was fun while it lasted. So what are they doing with the pound now?

ooo la lah, a bi metal, nice. Gee we're backward when it comes to coins, why can't we make bi metal for a change  ??? What's our BS excuse again, oh that's right..it costs too much, pffff, what a load of bull. They don't take into account that so many coins float around for decades so I think they get their moneys worth out of them as I'm still finding coins minted in 1966 and all denominations so I think it's all lies but then what else can you expect from out government. I think it's just an excuse to put the price of everything up :( Sorry for the rant but all this talk about getting rid of our five cent annoys me  >:(

Here is the last round pound which will not be released into circulation.

Interesting that all the pictures that I have seen of the replacement pound coin are dated 2016 but it will not be released to replace the round one until 2017.

I like the fact that they changed the design. I can now put "set complete" on the old design.
I look forward to starting a set of the new ones though.

Whilst we are talking British, I am upset too. My soccer team, Crystal Palace lost to Manchester City in the F.A. cup. :(
My brother is a bigger fan of Palace and went back to England just to watch them. He will be crying in his beer.

Isn't it great when one can do that?
Do you have a type set or a complete set with all years?
In any case, a great collection!

Very interesting.
Do you think the Royal Mint does what the French and the Dutch did with the Euro coins? They put the date on it when the coins were actually minted. So you can get French and Dutch Euros from 1999-2001 even though the Euro wasn't introduced until 2002.

Rats, that means there are 10 coins I'm missing. The last £1 coin I added was 2012, so there's 8 of them from 2012-15.

Well if that is a case, please let me know exactly what you are missing so I can keep my eyes out for them since at some point the round ones will be removed from circulation.

Thanks Ken.  After I assembled all my loose UK coins, it looks like I'm only missing these 6 coins.

2008   Shield w/Royal Arms (Old)
2014   Scotland
2014   N.Ireland
2015   5th portrait; Royal Arms
2015   5th portrait; Royal Shield
2016   5th portrait; Royal Shield

It would be fabulous if you could come up with any of them for me.  We'll need to work out what I can send you as a trade.

The round 2016 pound coin will not circulate.

So there is only five needed.

2008   Shield w/Royal Arms (Old)
2014   Scotland
2014   N.Ireland
2015   5th portrait; Royal Arms
2015   5th portrait; Royal Shield

I will see what I can do.

Did not know that some of the 2016 50P coins are coloured.  :o

http://blog.royalmint.com/2016-remembered/?siteID=57UIAXtQe6k-zwquZ7qE9hmQexltl_xnmw&ls_affid=57UIAXtQe6k&__ja=tsid:38664|kw:1|cgn:57UIAXtQe6k

Or are there coloured and not-coloured versions like the Canadians sometimes do?

Which of the £5 coins were 5for5?
Title: Re: UK set
Post by: Kena on January 03, 2017, 10:48:57 PM
None of the coins with colour were for circulation.  The various Potter coins that were in colour were more expensive than the brilliant uncirculated ones that the mint is selling for £10.

Royal Mint stopped £5 for £5 quite a while ago.

Right now, the cheapest option for those from the mint is £13.

http://www.royalmint.com/shop/u/uk17kcbu

then you need to add £5 shipping per order if order value is under £45.

There are 7.4 BILLION people in the world and you only got 3 votes saying you're cute?  Maybe someone should recount the votes.
