After a grueling search I have located the modification software that will allow us to place fixed price classified ads and bidable (if this is a real word) auction listings.
I got with Humpybong and told him and it took some real arm twisting and begging (not really) but, he agreed that this would be of great benefit to our site. It wasn't free but, at $79.00usd we think it was a steal. Considering the software for the site and every other feature we had was at no cost I can't see where this can even remotely be an issue.
Once it is in place we will need to discontinue the bid by post method and start using its many features. They mimic just about everything you use on eBay plus integrate our "Thank You" and "Trader" features.
I'm not sure what the menu above will call it yet. The default is Classifieds and I would like to work with this a little. I'm told by the author that it can be configured to just use Auction but, I think we need to let me tinker with the controls first before deciding what features we need to use. Below is a list of the features we drooled over before its purchase.
It should be in place by this next weekend so keep our eyes peeled on the menu bar!
Features:
•Categories and Subcategory's (Unlimited levels) for listings
•Listings and auctions. Listings have a set price while an auction can have many bids and no set price limit.
•Auctions can have a minimum price set, starting price, and buy it now
•Bids can be made public or private
•Handles multiple pages of listings
•Integrates with the SMF Trader modification for seller/buyer feedback
•PayPal allows you to accept echecks and major credit cards
•Listing owner can accept or reject any bids made on their listing
•Buyer's receive a pm when they have bid outbid on a listing, bid has been rejected, or the bid has been accepted
•Upgrades for listings such as featured listing, extend the listing closing date, and add additional picture space
•Category listing options for listing approval, whether a category can contain auctions, private bids, maximum images in a category, how many days a listing can run, if comments can be placed on a listing
•Upgrades are set on a category level which allows control over the upgrades on specific categories
•Custom fields are supported on a category level
•Custom fields can be made optional, required, have a default value, and be sorted in order you wish to have them displayed
•Picture support for listings. User's can upload pictures for their listing
•Settings to control what is displayed on the listing and the category listings page
•Listing Comment System, Comment approval listing, Editing own comments.
•Permissions for viewing the classifieds, bidding on the listing, add a listing, add comments, edit comments, auto approve comments, and admin classifieds control.
•And more!

Oh Boy...

Sounds good. Can't wait to see it up and running. :)

This is great! I'm excited to check it out!

This feature has cost us $$$$$ to purchase so I ask that all Knights and Knightesess support this feature.
If you want to sell any of your collection put it on KotCT classifieds first, you may get a sale. Also support the auction feature. You can donate procceeds to the KotCT Treasury or not.
Proceeds can be yours to keep.
Give it a go, place an add to sell, put some coins up for auction, buy or bid on a coin others have listed. There is no charge from KotCT so all proceeds are yours to keep.
This is just another feature to make our castle GREAT.

Will this auction feature be open to non-KOTCT bidders? Not that it really matters to me since I'm more of a buyer than a seller. Just wondering.
Just a little off subject but, I've got to say I'm really liking this new Castle :) :) I sure appreciate all the work that has been done, and all folks that have put so much time into our New Castle. It so cool. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

This is only one of the many options we will have with this new modification if we so desire to use it. A special board can be created that will allow guests to view and buy or bid on items that are up for sale. They of course will be restricted to purchases only. They will need to be a member to place an ad or auction item up for sale.

I would prefer that it would be only available to members. People bidding from outside the group would have no reason to be fair and honest. Ebay works because of hundreds and thousands of feedback to track honesty. We know each other here, but outsiders could use paypal to get the item and take back payment. I think it would create more problems than it wold be worth to open the auctions to non members.

Yes I have to agree.....we are our own safe little community here and we do not need non-members to bid on our items. They can go to ebay and do that.
-
Yes I agree too, we are very good friends and not traders :) :) :)
-
OK guys....there does not seem o be any support for the Auction/Sales program......do we keep it or get rid of it.
It is up to you?
-
I guess if it is costing us money and no one is using it, then maybe we should can it.
Have to see what others think.
-
I got the impression that it was a once off purchase at a cost of $79, so if that's the case I'd say leave it be. But if there are ongoing costs to keep it and no-one is using it, then nix it quick-smart.
-
I agree with Nancy. If it was only a one time cost, then leave it. If it has any ongoing costs, then pull it. I think it is useful for some club related items (I would have bought all of the wooden nickels if I didn't already have one of each). It seems more expensive items which are very specialized will have a hard time selling since we are such a small group.
-
No ongoing costs but no one is using it for high or low cost items.
If more of you usedd it to sell or auction items not wanted then it would be useful.
I thought it would be used to trade between honest members...........to be able to sell unwanted items before say ebay.

I'm going to give it a shot!

I put up a New Zealand / Bahamas 2c Mule! ;D
