Their style of coin design does not have much aesthetic appeal compared to some of the earlier African States would'nt you say.

I don't know, I kinda like the simplicity of the design. Sometimes less is more, and I find some of the African coins to be a little too busy.

I like the design, it is not a lookalike design like many countries used.

Though I agree with what you say about some of the other African States, I still find this one very stark and 'in your face'. There is nothing subtle about it.
It could be that the photo has caused the high relief to appear too prominent. The sculpture of the muscles in the arm seem to be very heavily emphasised.??
