Oh man...that coin is killing me, I have been reading all about Raffles and his being sent to Prince Edward island and that' a straits settlement coin.... nice acquisition Sir!
...now I recall it's other name was Penang
-
Matty,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you go in for the Straits Settlement coins, do you not?
-
Yes, that's why I said all o' that ;D
-
Um, this coin is from Prince Edward Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Edward_Island), now a province of Canada. Not Prince of Wales Island a.k.a. Penang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penang), Straits Settlements (now Malaysia).

Here is what a 1 cent coin of Prince of Wales Island looks like. KM 13. It's another East India Company territory. The Malay-Arabic text on the reverse simply says "Pulu Penang", Penang Island.

I was wondering about that... I should have said something sooner. Just didn't make much sense seeing as how PEI is on the Eastern Side of Canada, in the Atlantic.
-
I was a little thrown off by that as well.
No offense meant, Matty.
-
I noticed yesterday whilst doing an ebay search that this was indeed a case of two different places - two different Prince Ed' Islands!
And I almost made a bid for a coin which isn't from the Straits Settlements, which is what I collect.... 8)

PEI is where Anne of Green Gables was set and is a popular tourist attraction thereof.
