Title: A toned 1945 D Nickel for you to practice your grading skills on.
Post by: NoHope587 on January 23, 2013, 09:57:52 PM
A tough one to grade the toning really does tend to hide the detail on the coin. the only really good thing toning does for grading in my opinion is it highlights any bag marks or wear.

Anyway for your grading practice here is a 1945 D Nickel.

In an effort to help others please explain the reasoning behind your grade choice.
After A couple of days I'll post what I called it.

It's a tough one with the toning, but I'd say it's a MS-63. I see no rim nicks or 'bag marks', but I can't decipher the b;ack spot on the 'C' in Monticello on the reverse.

All I'm seeing is about  80%  of the reverse. Is it the
board or my "smart" phone?

I would have to say your smart phone is not scaling the image properly.

Well I don't see any circulation marks in field.
The only wear I see is what looks likes rim flattening
but that's only in the area above mintmark so I guess
it't just a distortion. It's probably what Goose says it
is.

GOOSE MAY BE A BIT HIGH ALTHOUGH THE STEPS CAN BE SEEN EASILY AND THERE ARE NO APPARENT ROUGH AREAS............
