I have a suggestion for the 2011 KOTCT medal. Since the price of silver might be a problem, not to mention getting a plancett order at a fixed price, why not over-strike clad Ikes, JFKs, Susies, Sackies or presidental dollars? Imagine how satisfying it would be to see debased, corrupt skank money obliterated out of existence while at the same time made into something truly useful. 8)

I have a bunch of the first three years I was going to send to ANACS. with the intent of selling one set each on eBay.
Not shure how much it would raise but I think there are enough Carr fans out there that a return of several hundred dollars over costs could be resonablyy expected. This would go some way towards mitgating additional cost of the silver blanks. I'm not sure an overstrike of a Sac could obliterate the original design completely.
We need to get the ball rolling anyway on the 2011 medallion so perhaps the Mods could open up a 2011 medallion section and move this thread over there...

OVER STRIKING WOULD CERTAINLY BE CHEAPER THAN SILVER AND A BETTER CHANCE OF GETTING MORE PEOPLE TO PURCHASE THE TOKENS----THOSE ANTIQUED BRASS TOKENS ARE VERY GOOD LOOKING TOKENS------WE SHOULD SEE IF DAN CARR HAS ANY IDEAS ON THE SUBJECT ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Silver is nice, put I would be happy with the Pewter 63mm medal.

THE LARGE PEWTER MEDAL WAS JUST FINE----MAYBE A NEW PICTURE ON ONE SIDE

He overstruck nickels with his hard times token design. And over struck early Peace dollars into fantasy 64-D Peace Dollars. So it sounds like he's familar with the process.

I really don't care much for the large pewter coins myself. But I was kind of hoping for copper. That's what all my other KOTCT medals are.

Yes, I have over-struck several types of coins. It can be difficult and a lot of work, especially when trying to strike a proof (polished) finish over existing coins that aren't proofs. It is almost impossible to strike out all the existing details on Eisenhower Dollars - some part of the design usually shows through. When I made Hard Times Tokens by over-striking Jefferson Nickels, the dies cracked the first time (but I continued to use them for a while).
Sometimes over-striking works out just fine, depending on the host coin type and the over-striking design.
Over-striking only a portion of the host coin (essentially counter-stamping) usually works ok.

The cost of silver is prohibitive at this time. I feel we still have options with copper, brass and pewter. Guess we could do some silver if everyone wants to contribute their own coin but that could turn into a nightmare? A good discussion is definitely what is needed before we proceed with anything in this economic climate. I think everyone is open to new ideas and it appears we have Daniel here with us on this subject. Who knows what we might come up with?

Maybe we need to start another thread, just to find out what metal everybody would order.
Then one of the mods could send an e-mail to all members to come online and make their selection known.

I AGREE THAT SILVER IS TOO EXPENSIVE----LETS KEEP THE COPPER -/PEWTER IDEA AND SEE HOW MANY THE CASTLE WOULD WANT.........

Personally I would like to see another "First" by KOTCT and Daniel Carr but don't have a clue what that might be? Guess I am planting a seed here so see what grows! I also still have the dream of the most beautiful "lady" medallion ever struck and it would have to be exceptional to meet the beauty we have found with our ladies here!
