Title: Online shop
Post by: NoHope587 on July 01, 2010, 06:13:59 AM
After several months of coding and tweaking my first attempt at a personal online store is almost ready to go live.

Feel free to browse the beta version. I would advise against actually buying anything unless you really want it. I still have some tweaking to do on the payments and shipping.

Comments and suggestions very welcome.

You may want to consider doing a consignment department. Use your site for selling items for others. Just be sure to have the merchandise in your hand before trying to sell it regarless who the seller is and charge a fare percentage for providing the vehicle that generates the sale.

Oh, look next to logout on the main menu bar.........

Thank you both.
I will consider consignments but at the moment I have plenty to stock the shelves with so to speak jut not the time to devote to it just yet. Its a fair way from going live yet. I have to sort out some RSS feeds and then once its up and running find a way to attract customers. Thanks for the link on the top of the page.
If you can come up with a Banner i'll put it on my site. Not that I get a lot of traffic.
I am still constructing the rest of 2centworld and its far from complete so at the moment everything is being hosted on mycoins.us.

Just found 7 WW II ration books at my folks' house while cleaning it out. How many stamps will you accept?

Might be interested in the ration books depending on condition...

TKO put a boot in my butt with the link at the top of the page.
The Store is now online. It should also load significantly faster than before as I have streamlined the images.

Boot in the butt....no
Just an easier way to get to direct visitors and members to the shop. Entreprenureship is hard work and let no one tell you any differently. Taking the leap to put the store together was hurdle #1. Now it's up to promoting what you have, getting new stuff ready to list, Sell a few things and take care of their delivery. And doing all of this at the same time. It's the circle of a retailers life!

I'm going t ask a few of my geek squad friends to tweek a few of their sites (I hope about 30) with your RSS feed and were going to need to talk about those other methods of communication you say you don't dabble in. I think if you might want to reconsider the positive impact this could have.

It wouldn't any of the other members to put a link in the footers of their email either. Just think of how many views this would get in a weeks time.

Something to think about

You know I can fix just about any navigation system or GPS equipment in a matter of minutes but RSS is something I cannot get my head around. I think its now up and running. At least  from the Category levels.   First time I ran it live it killed my site.. at least this time everything else seems to be robust enough to stay functioning.
I batch re-sized all the icon images to true icons and it made a huge difference to the load time. Its little things like this that make me wonder if i have bitten off more than i can chew....

(If you need any help feel free to ask... TKO)

Well its been a week and my product count is now 78 items. Once I get the categories online then adding the actual products is easy and fairly fast.

My hit counter is saying about 1100 hits a day now up from the 300 a day when I first started it.
Both Yahoo and Google Spiders are spending a lot of time there....
I am trying to fill a niche market for lower grade collector type coins that bricks and mortar stores just don't cater for.
I an also in the process of integrating the USPS API function so shipping charges will be based on weight and not number of items. it should bring the charges down and make the lower priced items more viable.
I have also added meta tags to the products. Don't know what help they will be in this day and age but way back when they were fairly important.
Thanks for the offer of help TKO but at the moment I'll struggle on its the only way I learn stuff...

Finished fixing the bugs with the shipping module.
USPS API now online so shipping charges should be pretty much actual based on weigh plus the cost of the mailer/packing materials..
Also expanded my shipping zones worldwide.
Hopefully this will make the cheaper items more viable.

Added meta tags to the items today and my hit counter went through the roof.  :o
Now running at around 4000 hits a day. Now all I have to do is find a way to entice some of those hits to become sales...
Today I have some work client meetings so not much opportunity to add products. but tomorrow is looking good so hopefully I will be able to double my inventory.
One things for sure I am not going to get rich from it but I am learning a hell of a lot about how the internet works and it keeps me off the streets and out of the pool halls...

Over 100 products online now.
Still trying to keep it low end for the average collector.
Added some bullion but had to hike the price to cover the Paypal fees.

Still averaging 2,000 hits a day though most activity is over the week ends when the hit count goes through the roof.
