Some yrs ago, the guv'ment wanted ALL people to have their social security checks electronically deposited into their banks. Many people complained saying they don't have an account, too far to go, etc. So the guv'ment continued to mail the checks to those who wanted them mailed (I get mine mailed). So what law was passed last week? Yep, beginning in 2013 ALL Soc Sec checks WILL be electronically sent to your bank whether you liking it or not, and if you don't have an account, you'll get zilch! They say it'll save them $14 million a yr in postage by NOT mailing. Hogwash!!
What's going to happen in 2014? Yep, the guv'ment's socialistic take over of the health system. Now if some people don't join this health plan or some other plan, they will get fined! Don't want to pay? Not correctly 'signed up'? You'll be fined. How will the guv'ment get their ill gotten money? Yep, from your bank account.

WHEN I WORKED AS A TEACHER I BEGAN TO HAVE MY PAYCHECK DEPOSITED ELECTRONICALLY BUT THE STUPID SCHOOLBOARD DEMANDED THAT I RECEIVE A CHECK FOR AT LEASE $25 AND THEY WOULD DEPOSIT THE REST INTO THE BANK..........TO THIS DAY I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY..........BUT WHEN MY MONEY WENT IN AUTOMATICALLY.........I DID NOT HAVE TO FIGHT THE WEATHER AND THE LONG LINES AND LIMITED PARKING EVERY PAYDAY......AND FOR THAT I AM GTATEFUL..........NOW I CAN MOVE MY MONEY BY COMPUTER FROM ACCOUNT TO ACCOUNT AND CHECK ON MY BALANCES ETC.----IN MICHIGAN THE WEATHER CAN BE VERY HOSTILE AND THIS EASE OF BANKING IS GREAT AND THE GOVERNMENT ALREADY KNOWS WHAT IS IN YOU ACCOUNTS.........ALSO PAYDAY USE TO BE A GREAT DAY TO TAKE OFF BECAUSE MOST OT MY TEACHING COMPANIONS DID NOT HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT SO THEY CAME IN TO GET PAID AND THEY DID NOT HAVE TO GET EXTRA SUBS TO COVER MY CLASSES..........

Businesses already mandate that you have to have a direct deposit set-up. I know this seems convenient, but I have worked with people who are from Russia and are in the USA on a temporary work permit and they CANNOT get a USA bank account because they are foreigners. So to get around it, the company has to pay them via a debit card - which itself is a problem particularly if you are trying to save your money to go back home - debit cards are not set up for keeping money on them and saving - they are only set up to spend.

Since 9-11 banking has gotten much much more severe in the USA. As one who transfers money overseas, and betwixt different USA bank accounts - I can opin that they seem to really be after your money and freedom than they are after "terrorists".

When I moved to the US I had no problem opening a bank account Just needed a passport and $100 to deposit.
Even my mother has one and she does not live in the US. She needed a social security number however and got that without a problem Just says not valid for work on it.
Things seem to have changed a lot over the last 15 years..

They have changed mostly since 2001. I was in Ukraine when the attacks in NY happened, the world we left in August was not the same world we came back to in late September - for one thing it was a bit disconcerting standing in long lines in Warsaw with so many soldiers standing around with AK-47s. And yes, immigration is much much tighter in the USA and it is a lot more difficult to get a visa to travel to the USA than it was before.
That aside, I think we are a little more trusting of people from Britain - besides they entertain us with their funny language - they seem to speak some derivative of the English language we speak here - rather peculiar though. ;D

IT WON'T MATTER MUCH WHERE THE MONEY GOES......IT IS SPENT SO FAST THAT IT DOESN'T STAY IN THE BANK LONG ENOUGH TO EARN INTEREST....LIKE NIGHTHAWK SAYS WHEN THEY GO TO HIS ACCOUNT THERE WON'T BE ANYTHING THERE ANYWAY......BESIDES EVERYONE IN THE U.S. WILL HAVE SPENT THEIR PENTIONS ON GUNS,AMMO AND DOG FOOD...AND INITIATION FEES TO VARIOUS MILITIAS......
