I think it is a public relation concoction to get free advertisement space and time for the bank itself
If they were stolen you just drill a whole thru them and sell them for melt jewelry at different jewellers
Or you just shine them with copper polish beyond numi value.

SAYS ALOT ABOUT THE HONESTY OF THE BANK EMPLOYEE--THEY COULD NOT RECOGNIZE A GOLD COIN ESPECIALLY A COIN WITH A VERY OLD DATE????  YOUR SERVANT--THE TEMPLAR!
