Seems like bad things happening everywhere right now. 49 dead in the plane crash in New York Thursday night.

Yeah, that's awful. As much as I love airplanes, the very few times I've flown I have prayed thru the entire flight! I don't wanna have to die like that. That's not the way I wanna go. Makes you wonder though, if man was really ever meant to fly? Maybe that was something God intended only for the birds! Great things have been accomplished, and wars have been won, thanks to aviation, but it really makes me wonder if we were ever meant to fly......... :(

A sad loss of life, but apparantly still the safest way to travel.

Very sad thing. Will be praying for all the family's. :(

I love flying, however when I fly through a storm and turbulence it makes me re-think my love of flying.
When we flew back from Europe not too long ago, I tried not to think about going down in the Atlantic.
I recall flying into Denver once in a snowstorm. You could look down and see the street lights through the snow. A lot of shaking. Snow. Low altitude. And, the pilot seeming to be battling the wind. It all made me think I would never fly again. Then, we landed safely.
I still like to fly. But, in the back of my mind I always wonder "What if..."
Regarding the New York crash -- what a shame. Looks like it was just one of those things. Ice, and other factors.
As mentioned, it's probably the safest way to travel, but I doubt that many people get on board a plane without at least a little bit of fear.

I love to fly...I have no fears. I always try to get a window seat and watch the takeoffs....great! I think we go from 30 MPH (48 km/hr) to 250 MPH (403 km/hr) in something like 8 seconds. YEP, The plane would beat my SUV in a drag from 30 MPH to 100 MPH!

Yes, takeoffs are pretty cool.... when the plane speeds down the runway, it is kinda neat. I mean the speed and all. :)

Little disconcerting last night flying home from Dulles and seeing ice building up on the wings when they turned on the landing lights. The only reassuring thing was we were on a jet and not a turboprop. I refuse to fly in propeller planes anymore.
In Ukraine on Saturday it was interesting to see how they checked for ice, by feeling the wings while the plane was parked. At least they had a modern Volvo de-icer to spray the de-icing chemicals on the wings.

I sure agree. There's no "rush" like the feeling of taking off.
