Title: Happy Veterans Day.
Post by: longnine009 on November 11, 2008, 12:12:53 AM
I'd like to wish a Happy Veterans Day to all Veterans but especially to our Greatest Generation Vet OldDan! And to others that I know are line Vets from Vietnam or Iraq--MorganFred and ScoutJim, if your out there pop a few brews today. And to all our Troops active in Iraq, please stay safe and come home.

Additionally, it was  33 years ago yesterday that the Edmund Fitzgerald went  down with all hands.

Happy Veterans Day to our U.S. members and Happy Remembrance Day to everyone else.
It's a time for those of us that have never served in the armed forces and seen battle, to stop and think awhile.
What sort of world we might be living in, if many young men had not laid their lives on the line to keep us safe.

This 'old folks' home they have me in now is planning on holding some kind of gathering this morning right before lunch for a program honoring Vets. Think I'll pass it up and go down town and toss down a few brews. Never was much into having these get togathers as all they do is bring back memories which are better forgotten.

So hope everyone has a great day, and remembers all those who won't be celebrating it with you. After all they were the ones who this day should in remembered for. :'( :'(

I'm betting that Bones gets out and rides his motorcycle today!!!
I know where you are comeing from OldDan, but if we don't remember who will?

MMM I heard on TV that there were 9 millions that died and 25 countries involved in worldwar I ( ending 11 novembre 1918)
Also they used chloorgas for the first time
There are 9 survivors and they let an 112 year old Brit talk about the horrors
The French president went a bit further he said he wanted to honour the deserters too because they went as far as they could go before ending in front of the execution squad

I wonder how many remember that it used to be called "Armistice Day?"

It used to be a major holiday, but obviously, things change.

 :) :) :) :)
