Title: CLUELESS on Russian note
Post by: Nighthawk on November 09, 2008, 08:39:31 AM
HELP! I found this Russian note some time ago and cannot identify it! I have looked thru the standard catalog and the specialized catalog, and have been unable to identify it. The only clues I have is the date (1917), issued by the Russo-Asiatic Bank, printed by ABNC, and I'm guessing it is a 1 Ruble note. Can anyone help? Thanks.  ;D

Technically speaking this is a Chinese note, was issued in the city of Harbin in 1917 and was printed by ABNCo.

The name of the bank translates as Russo Asiatic Bank.  The China section of the catalog is a mess, and I think it is actually in the specialised foreign banks catalogs.

Guys, you won't believe this. I got the specialized catalog out (8th ed.), turned to the Foreign Banks/China section, and what's the first thing I see? The note I've been searching for all day long! It's #S474, listed under Harbin Branch of the Russo-Asiatic Bank. Mystery solved! Thanks so much guys for your help!  :)
