Title: 2009 Year of..........?
Post by: TwoShadows on October 21, 2008, 12:00:43 PM: We might start considering what we are celebrating in 2009 so the woodies and medallions, should we decide to do them, will follow an appropriate theme? I/We are only looking for ideas here so fire away.
Could be the Year of;

Copper
Silver
Gold
2nd Anniversary of our Castle
Crowns
Cents

and so on.......! Let's here your ideas as we draw closer to the end of 2008 and start a new year with a new theme. Hopefully we will find something that will be special to all of us and our home here in the KOTCT Castle! After we get a hopper full of ideas we will then put it to a vote!

They don't look too bad at all and might be a good substitute if silver goes too high. Dragons are a good theme that would go well with castles and knights/knightresses.

If we are looking at an end of year minting again, then perhaps a payment system could be devised where people could pay smaller amounts through the year rather that all at once. I chose 1/4 of an ounce to make it more affordable for everyone.

However, subjects that might also be year of the Feline, the year of the RC Aeroplane, Automobile, Train, Darwin (2009 is the 150th ann. of his work the Origin of Species and the 200th ann. of the year of his Birth even), the 500th ann. of Henry VIII taking the throne of England, the 400th ann. of Gallileo's telescope... etc. ;)

I know that gold is also a popular choice for several of our collectors, but I know I could never afford to place an order for one. The silver is lovely enough for me.

I have to agree. The current exchange rate is woeful.

How about a satirical medal? The year of the two Hanks? King Henry Vlll debased his silver coins with copper until at one point there was so much copper mixed in with silver his nose turned brown when coins received wear at that point. People--( lovingly I'm sure,) called their supposedly silver coins "old copper nose."

We could have a medal made from pewter or german silver or even copper-nickel, anything that imitates silver but isn't. Which would also keep the costs down without diluting the product. It's suppose to imitate silver. We can have the the two Hanks together at last like the dual images you see on so many early commens. There might even be a way to plate a copper spot on King Henry's nose. And we should accord Paulson the same honor by plating a copper spot on the the top of his head. :o

And for a motto how about a line from from Herman's Hermits I'm Henry the Vlll I am:
"Second verse same as the first..."

They could also be identified on the medal as King Henry the Vlll and King Henry the Vlllb "Second verse same as the first..." Where's me head wax.

If you save up the money you can't find the coin and if you don't have the money everybody and their brother has one for sale. I hate Murphy's Law!!! ;D

Keep those ideas coming as 2009 is not that far away so we will have to have something to celebrate!

After the knight theme, wouldn't it be fun if a medal was made in the style of that period?
While it's probably an unworkable idea, I would find a hand-hammered medal very intriguing. :)
