Title: Mint mark on British W. African cosin ?
Post by: Goose on October 09, 2008, 03:33:13 PM
I've acquired (2) 1938 British West African 2 shilling coins. According to Krause, the mint mark 'H' means it was minted at the Heaton mint, Birmingham. If the coin has a 'KN', it was minted at King's Norton, Birmingham. I can find no mint marks on the coins. Is the castle's wizzard around?

Can you post a picture of the coins faces?  I don't have my book handy to take a look ><

I have a 1939 BWA florin, which has the same two mintmark possibilities according to Krause. Mine's in pretty poor shape, but here's a closeup of where I believe the mintmark ought to be: directly underneath the palm tree.

On this assumption, mine is a "H" - I'd expect a "KN" to be symmetrically aligned, with the space between the two letters directly underneath the tree.

Here is an older silver shilling (1917 H) where the "H" is in the same place, only much more prominent.

Posting pictures is pretty easy, Goose!

There are two ways, but one involves having your picture already uploaded/hosted on the internet somewhere.

The other, click REPLY as above.  Just below the box where you type your text you should see a line saying ADDITIONAL OPTIONS.  Click on this to open more text.  You should see another box, with BROWSE next to it.  Click on BROWSE, select the picture you wish to upload.  Enter the text that you want to post, and click POST as always!  :)

So easy a caveman could do it?
