Title: Going to Philippines for 18 months
Post by: arthrene on August 21, 2008, 10:31:25 AM
As of October 1st, 2008 I will be serving an LDS mission in San Pablo, Philippines. I get to learn Tagalog. During this time I will not have access to a computer so I will be offline for a while.

Does anyone who has ever been to the Philippines have any advice or could anyone tell me what to expect?

No computer! You're going to go through withdrawls, but your Philippine coin collection should be pretty good when you come home.

Dang, there is some pretty good Territorial stuff from ca. 1904-1946 that I would love to haunt for in the Philippines.  Generally Filipinos like westerners a lot, and many of them speak English quite well, a legacy of the 48 years that the USA ruled the Islands.  Hopefully you will be able to get online and update us on your time there.  Several friends and family members of mine have done those missions, and have learned a lot on them.

Take care of yourself, and have fun!  This sounds like an adventure of a lifetime for you and I wish you all of the best. :D  Don't forget about us while you're there. We'll be missing you lots!
