I talked to OldDan (Gene) on the phone to see if he was still with us. I told him that it had been 11 days since he had logged on and many of us were worried that he was using the internet connection thing as a dodge to hide something else. He said, "No, I'm just fine but, they do have the electric wires down and the phone service is itermittant waiting on the utility companies to bury and connect the new wiring".
He asked if I would post this so everyone would know all is still well and that he is still waiting for the service to finish before connecting to a local internet company. He went on to say that he was or maybe had already given up on AOL and will be back on line ASAP.
He is well and as good as he can be. He did mention that this was worse than giving up smoking and that his wife was the only person he has had any conversation with for nearly 2 weeks. I politely asked if we would not go there.
All for now...

I'm sure everyone would agree with me that we hope Old Dan returns as soon as possible.
:D :D :D :D
-
We were all worried about him so it is very good news to here he is OK
Look forward to having him on the CHAT line again soon.
-
I just hope all is well with him, and hope to see him here again.

I knew Old Dan would be down for a while but NOT quite this long. I promised I would let everyone know should anyone start asking but I see TKO has taken care of it! Two weeks with just your wife? I'll bet he is making conversation with all the critters on that ranch not to mention the old cat!!! :D

We have our cable lying on the ground in the garden, my wife took a stab at it with a shovel and sliced it open. I could not believe that she actually so thoughtlessly did that, at least the cable still works, other wise I could move her belongings out to the doghouse.
-
Does that mean the dog gets to come inside? Hate to see the dog suffer for something your wife did! ;D
-
The dog only uses the doghouse in the summer, when he is "yarded". He has a bed of his own inside, he is a trust fund dog so he is very well taken care of. He even has his own blankets and gets tucked in at night. It is a long story, but I inherited him from my Grandmother, and one provision she had made was that he had to be spoiled.

It's wonderful to hear news about OldDan! Glad to know he's doing well, but I sure wish we knew when he was coming back.

I believe OldDan uses dial up. I'm still using it and Saturday we got a storm and a blast of wind of probably not more than 40 mph for about a minute. Well I don't know what that did to the Little Engine That Can't (Bellsouth) but Sunday morning I had no phone line. Sunday night I did but my Internet connection, and I'm not making this up, was 2.7kb. I was actually was able check my email and even got in on this board with that connection. This morning, again no phone line working but tonight it is and so far with a normal connection.
I understand perfectly what OldDan is going through, although he seems to have it a lot worse than I do. It's enough to piss off the Pope. As much as I hate cell phones, I've been thinking about getting one and telling AT&T who owns bellsouth *AGAIN!* to shove their phone line, their Almost Bread and a Circus ISP "service," and especially their final bill up their broken down #%&. >:(

Yesterday the news mentioned a new study by Test for Buyers
Belgium has the most expensive DSL of all Europe and on top of that they cap usage
That is what you get when the Belgacom and Telenet providers have bought all competition
I moved from Wanado sold out to Tiscali sold out to Scarlet sold out to Belgacom all in 8 years
They dug a whole in my telephone cable last year putting in glasfibre and I was out for a week
Pure Hell . Espcially since I was the only one along the canal they damaged

But I'll bet they still expected to be paid for 4 weeks of service instead of 3 didn't they?

That is a given. Vonage did that to us when our phone service was out for over a month last year, they kept billing us, and after too many calls talking to "John" or "Karen" in Delhi India we cancelled them and put a chargeback on our charge card. Talk about a nightmare. Vonage is cheap, when it works, but if your router goes down, forget about service.

After Hurricane Wilma Florida Power and Light had the brass bells to want to charge everyone for the money that they could have earned had they actually been required to earn it. Which they couldn't because that still required functioning equipment to generate electric to sell to people. And of course Gub-nor Goober (Jeb Bush) was all too happy to let them do it.
Lucky for us the "News" had a momentary lapse into freedom and reported something useful for change.
I don't know what makes people in this country think they still live under Capitalism. What school did they go to--The school of El Duce's Neo-Capitalism? Yeah, you too Jeb; What school did you go to?
GOOBER!

Of course Belgacom is an ex government company . I paid for 4 weeks .They had 4 different people looking at the isolated problem First a computer guy determening the connection was gone , then a local guy checking the local distribution pannel, then an engineer coming home to measure from my side and then ultimately the guy I needed with a megger and a shovel . He hooked a battery to the cable and an oscilloscope and told me the break was 7 meters away then went to dig the hole . He only found one end of the severed cable and since it was by now saturday evening 7 pm and he had enough double overtime I guess he wanted to call it quits . So I went to bakshis (sp) and he found the other end and managed to knot them together .
However Scarlet my expensive ADSL provider wanted 4 weeks of pay too since the cable was leased it was not their problem .

Let me be the first to say, WELCOME BACK!
-
It's so good to see you posting again :) Welcome back, OldDan.
-
Wonderful to have you back.
We really missed you.
:) :) :) :)
-
Good to have you back at the Round Table. Welcome home! :-* :-* :o :o ::) ::)
-
Welcome back to the 20th century, hope that the 21st century is on it's way soon. My sis lives just outside of the DC metro area, but she will likely never have hi speed internet, unless one of the wireless services extends their range. Dialup is something I guess I could expect in Wyoming or Idaho, but Maryland?
-
It is so good to hear from you OldDan.
We were getting worried about you and that is why TKO gave you a phone call.
Glad to have you back at the table, the damsels were getting very stressed.
-
Gee with satelite you can probably capture all those XXX rated programs as well ;D
The street behind me is full of satelite antennas but they are all directed to Mekka .
The houses are more then 125 years old without inside bathroom etc and so they are all
bought up by allochtones .
One guy did not know where the south was and he directed his satelite antenna north
he had to dig everything out and pour a new concrete slab because in the position the antenna was
all the houses were blocking the south

Old Dan the next time you are forced to be absent could you please delegate a member to sit with the Knightesses at the coin table. With all of us rushing to get your seat, well... it could turn ugly! ;D
-
Welcome back Sir Gene, we really missed you. Don't believe this stuff about dialup being bad. I use it too and it's every bit as good as my 8 track tapes. ;D
-
Sir Gene.
Please ignore those who claimed I needed help with the Knightess's.
The lasses were all content during your absence. Well, maybe not 100 percent.
I detect a jealous streak amid the other Knights.
I raise a jug of mead to your health Sir.
regards,
