Title: muckeye out of action
Post by: Humpybong on April 19, 2008, 11:01:25 PM

Just thought I would let you know that muckeye will be off line for about the next 2-3 days due to a computer problem with his ISP.

Bob is already having withdrawal problems and is lost without his computer and may take up drinking instead.

Before I got my broken stomach lock which causes reflux that was my favourite too
12 year old Glenfiddich with a few white beer chasers

Now I am condemned to 12 year old French Cognac which has a lower reflux potential (no acid no bubbles)

But I am still willing to swallow anti reflux pills for real good French Champagne  ;D

Do not take up drinking, 'tis bad for the health.  A young, attractive and energetic female is far more healthy and keeps one living long.

Hé I am not Charly Chaplin
The thing you describe is either going to pluck you of your last coin or ask you to marry her so she can get the divorce money
Anyways you can drink 12 hours a day ; what are you going to do with your young and energetic friend the other 11 hours  ;D

 :D

Oh!  I thought, I am  the only guy, having computer problems.   Now I have a new Lap Top.

Well done Sir Scottishmoney!   Well!   I do not touch them.   I drink 'only coins'    An addict...to coins.  By the way, you say 'In gold we trust' and all others are waste.

How about silver, next to gold

France is only 90 minutes drive away  ;D
Allthough the fact that there are no more borders nor custom agents halfs the fun of shopping in another country  ::)
We Belgians are in Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland in less then 2 hours
England takes a boat trip of like 4 hours
Oh how I miss those words " Anything to declare Sir " I only tried to declare a big recordplayer once , I was coming of the 6 o'clock am night boat from England on free tickets ; I would have had to pay 20% VAT but the custom officer said I was overstating the value of the recordplayer and since my wife was with me it was exempt if he added the two exempts together  ( To early to do an hour of paper work you know)

I surely have more Latin blood than you do, some of my ancestors came from France.  But curiously enough their surname means to... drink!

My great grandmother was Italian so I am 12.5% Italian ( a Deglione )
This only shows when I start cursing somebody and how quickly I get real angry .
Latinums are overrated anyways ; they think a bottom is for pinching  8)

I should probably get a noble prize for that.  ;D

It must be nice to be able to easily travel to so many other countries. I bet that champagne and cognac cost less over there than they do after be shipped over here. I used to drink quite a bit of cognac, but I paid an arm and a leg for it.

I used to pay 25% less in France then in Belgium in the time every country still had importers who did the custom declarations
This on all wines and licqors . I also loved 20 years old Calvados .

For the moment I pay 15 euro (like 22$) for very good Otard Cognac ( Fine cognac VS)
The super best Remy Martin ( used to be a black bottle) called fine champagne VSOP costs 27 Euro but that is the most expensive a normal
specialised supermarket will have . If you want more expensive you have to go to the last wineshop in my city of 200 000 persons
This tells you something about people being price sensitive for 10 years now .Belgium has been on an austerity plan for like ten years
to get to the criteria to enter the European Union at start up . Our spending deficits were way to high with a total deficit of 130% of
yearly gross national product .
They announced on TV that last year was the first time health insurance was not a deficit

In Paris back in 2000 a bottle of Grand Marnier was about 50FF or $8.00  Here in the USA right now it is $35, after all the excise taxes etc.

In Paris back in 2000 a bottle of Grand Marnier was about 50FF or $8.00  Here in the USA right now it is $35, after all the excise taxes etc.

The drop of the dollar would make that 12$ add inflation that would make it 24$
I pay now 16 Euro for Grand Marnier which I use to cook lobster a l'amoricaine . So our figures match Europe side
Every importer takes 30% gain so your 35$ is only 3$ for the retail seller .
If transport was not so scandalously expensive you could have 6 bottles shipped to you by boat
and do the custom declaration yourself in theory saving large part of the 30% but the importer likely
ships it by the container at a few dollars cost per bottle and you would have to pay a lot more .
( The French taxes of like 21% are refunded and chances are very high your excise and american taxes are less so the importer wins on the excercise too)

I buy cherries on 100% alcohol directly from the factory in France . The cherries are per carton of 6 like 50 Euro and the shipping is like 40 Euro per six
No supermarket sells them in Belgium and I got addicted to the taste . Lucky no customs exist anymore in the EU

Muck,
Glad your back. It's funny how a little notification post can degenerate into an AA meeting. ;)

I myself, as some of you may know, have been known to down a 1/2 liter or so of Rumplemintz (100 proof peppermint schnapps, for the uninitiate) at a sitting, like tomorrow night for poker night.
