Title: Coins dedicated to the 90th Anniversary of the Republic of Estonia
Post by: Marek on March 29, 2008, 06:59:35 AM
Ninety years ago, on 24 February 1918, the Estonian independence manifesto " To All the Peoples of Estonia" was published in Tallinn declaring the Republic of Estonia. On 28 November 1918 the Estonian War of Independence started. The war ended in 1920 when Peace Treaty was signed by Estonia and Soviet Russia on 2 February. The Independence of the Republic of Estonia discontinued in 1940, when the country was occupied and thereafter incorporated into Soviet Union. Estonia's independence was restored on 20 August 1991.
Estonian Pank has issued a set of three collector coins to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia.
The Reverse of the 10 krooni silver coin depicts an oak tree, which is called Wiiralt oak after the engraving "Viljandi maastik" ( The landscape of Viljandi) created by famous artist Eduard Wiiralt. the reverse also bears the nominal value "10 krooni". The avers carries the coat of arms of the Republic of Estonia, the text "Eesti Vabariik" and the year of issue 2008
The Reverse of the 50 krooni gold coin represent a windmill. The windmills in Estonia were built in the 14th century, following the examples of western European trestle windmills. The reverse also bears the nominal value "50 krooni". The avers carries the national coat of arms , the logo  of the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia and the year of issue 2008
The Reverse of the 100 krooni platinum coin depicts barn swallows, Estonia's national birds, whose colour resembles the colours of the Estonian flag. The reverse of the coin also bears the nominal value "100 krooni" and the text "Eesti Vabariik 90". The averse carries Estonia's national coat of arms and the year of issue 2008.

I have looked at Estonia coins available on Ebay and it seems they are either very limited or just hard to come by? At least over here! I do intend to locate something as I have decided to build a KOTCT set with coinage from each member nation. They may end up in a new Excaliber Pet Set but I would like to make room for new nations joining us down the road so I don't know how "mailable" such a set might be? None the less Estonia is now on my list of coins needed!!! ;D

Nice coins, I have a few coins and banknotes from Estonia, but nothing from old state of Estonia(1918-1940) yet.  Coincidentally for those of you that don't know much about Estonia, it is where Skype was developed.

I think Belgium won only once with j'aime la vie by Sandra Kim 16 years old and French speaking
We allways get kicked out for not being commercial enough and Flemish is not really a language for songs since it sounds like German
The Irish are the very best at the game . What was the name of the girl without shoes winning again ? or the song ? I remember Johnny Logan (if that was not England ) but my all time favourite was something like 40 years back ; Italy winning with Non o leta and I am sure I just murdered the Italian . My greatgrandmother was Italian but my grandmother never learned it to me . I still have the 40 year old picture of the girl in my English dictionary ( go figure but that was the place my mother would not find it and comment on it  ??? )

I had to go to firefox cause I killed any flash and javascript on IE and it is not easy to turn it back on for 5 minutes

I liked the music very much
Seem to recognise parts of Balalaika and the song of those that pull the boats on the Volga ; but anything with a violin in it gets my favour

My favourite is Spiel Zigeun ( Hungary Austrian ?) I taped it and lost name and origin

Love the 50 krooni in particular. I'm afraid my only Estonian coin is one lonesome 10 senti from 1998!

Firefox is my browser of choice anyway, so I would not know if it works in IE.

It would work in IE7 but I killed all sound and movement and pop ups and banners and this is not reversible in a minute whilst it is revirsable in a minute in firefox
However I have trouble in synchronising my Favourites so I stay with IE7 more so since in Firefox I have not been able to kill all pop ups yet

Hmm, that is the reason I use FF, instead of IE, no popups at all.

Firefox gives me a popup with red cross on Kitco
See if your FF does block it
If it does I have to change some settings

Works just fine with mine, but you may have to tweak your settings.

Well it appears I just bought some uncirculated coins from Estonia!!! ;D A fellow down in Atlanta, Georgia had placed them on Ebay explaining he had just returned from a trip to Estonia. He had managed to get uncirculated rolls of 4 different coins while on his trip and he was testing the Ebay waters, so to speak. I really felt for him as I got the 4 coins for 1 cent plus postage. For some reason no one else bid on his auction, which I found amazing, as most of the few Estonia auctions currently running are being fought over. None the less I am looking forward to adding a new nation (and KOTCT member nation) to my modern day collection. Now I must look for something old and in silver from days gone by!!! You have to love this hobby!!! :)
