It seems my days of rampant coin buying are over, for now. I've run out of room to put them! And so, I had to go out and go shopping for something that was large enough and secure enough that I could store my precious collection of shinies.
When we went out last Sunday, I certainly didn't expect to be buying a $160,000 coin safe. Better known as a new (first) house. ;D
It certainly isn't finished or furnished as of yet. There's no soil nor grass in the backyard! That's the only thing I don't like about it. :( But give me a year, and it'll be beautiful. :D I hope.

WOW! Congratulations! The house looks great. My brother and his wife just bought a house with similar lookinf bathroom and kitchen, and I know its a great place. I can imagine how great it must feel to be a new home-owner.
-
Congratulations!!!!
May the new house bring you good luck and the greatest future in it:)
-
Congratulations. A nice looking house and only $160,000.
You couldn't buy a place like that here in Perth for under $500,000
When's the house warming party?
-
Good luck with your new home Kitty.
With all of the work ahead of you I hope you will still have time for us and your coins.
Seems like you got yourself a bargain there, here in Brisbane you would need around $400,000 to $600,000 to buy a nice home like yours (depending on the suburb).
-
Congratulations!!! The house looks wonderful.
-
Congratulations Kitty. What a bargain. Buying a home is a big deal & I know you'll never regret it. ;)
When do you move in? Don't forget to let us have your new address.
-
Don't forget to remind me about the housewarming party! ;D

looks like a nice home all you need to do is put a pool in and some cement then you won't have to mow the grass.
ps paint the cement green

Congratulations! ....... I can't believe you could get a house like that, near the water, for $160,000. Enjoy!

Thank you everyone. I'm very excited, and I don't quite yet know when we'll be moving in. We're still waiting on the financial officer to call back with the loan details, and then on the builders to turn the keys over to us. We're looking at a move-in date of March 22. The Housewarming party probably won't take place til May. Or after. I promise I will post an announcement for everyone here.
Don't worry Humpy, you're not rid of me that easily! I won't be going anywhere, nor will I be stopping collecting coins. I just won't have the same budget that I've had. :D
And.. it's taken me a bit to realise why everyone is talking about water... it's the picture of the backyard!
That isn't the ocean, nor even a lake. There's a little tank back there (pond for those who don't speak Texan), but the reflections are just buildings.
I wish I could get a nice house like that on the beach! That'd be fantastic!
And, as for the backyard... I want to terrace it. Two, maybe three levels.. with stone retaining walls. A wooden deck right at the backdoor with a pergola shading it. My husband has decided he wants grape vines to grow on the pergola. *sigh* Ah, dreams. ;) we'll see how many of them come true.

You have chosen one of the best times to buy a house in years, now they are valued where they should be. Curiously my sister in law sold her house to a company last year when they moved out of state, they sold it for 350K, now the house is listed at 275K and no takers. She was laughing about it and suggesting they might want to buy it back!
Congrats on your new house ;D

I too was wondering why everyone was talking about water. Still a great buy though.

I was so pleased when I showed the first pic to 2 people at work last night and the first comment was: 'Doesn't that ocean look beautiful!'.
We haven't seen a blue sky like that for sooooo long now, we'd forgotten what it looks like!
-
Congratulations on your new coin safe! Looks very nice.
-
Congratulations!!
We still sort of remember the joy of buying a brand new house. It was 1976. Cost $46,000. And, we are still here!
Best wishes.
:) :) :) :)

Thanks everyone! The good news is, we will be closing on the house on Friday. We have a new washer and dryer (also my first) to go into the utility room, and now I'm working on finding a cheap beater car for my husband to get back and forth to work. (previously he's always just walked!)
I'm really excited, and a little nervous. I've budgetted and budgetted this over and over, but I keep waiting for something to throw a monkey into the wrenchworks.

Congratulations to you Tracy, and your family.
I share your euphoria. I was 60 before I got to buy my first (and only) house.
It's a wonderful experience, second only ,I believe, to the arrival of children.
If I win Lotto I'll be at your house warming.
regards,
Muckeye.

Hey Muckeye....if you win lotto you can shout us ALL to Kitty's house warming.
