SECRET BUNNY for 2008
January 03, 2008, 06:33:31 PM

Some members have advised me that they enjoyed the secret santa so much that they wanted more.

Ok .... let see who would be interested in a SECRET BUNNY for 2008.

If we have enough positive I would be happy to run this as well.

Over to you all.........if you want to be in it.....just post a reply here!

Rabbits are a pest, we should have a Secret Bilby!

Here is an Easter Bilby for our overseas members.

I'll be in it though.

Bilby bilby bilby!  Very tasty.  I'm looking forward to receiving mine this year. :D

And I'm definitely in.  This time I'm going to be extra careful sending so we don't have a repeat performance of a coin disppearing. Otherwise triggersmob would have his 1972 five cent piece already!  I'm still in the market for a nice present to send to him to replace the santa gift that went astray.  And yes Steve, I know I don't have to.  I want to.

Do add this coin to my collection?

It's a small Australian marsupial (Bandicoot) that was in danger of becoming extinct.  In Oz, a lot of parents substitute a chocolate Bilby for the ole chockie Bunny as part of the sale proceeds go to conservation of the Bilby. There has been a lot of time, money & effort by some dedicated people, put into finding a long term solution for their dilemma.

More info here: http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/threatened/publications/bilby.html

Emu and Roo are very tasty.  We in Oz get a lot of flack about eating our national emblems (coat of arms).  However, that is only minor to what would happen to anyone who ate a bilby.  Please look up hung, drawn and quartered  :)  I don't think they'd taske good to anyone, foxes and cats excepted (that's why they're very endangered).

As for underground mutton (rabbits). YUM!

Australia has some of the cutest animals, ever.  The range of marsupials never ceases to amaze me. :)

And, as for eating the National Symbols; it makes me sort of sad Benjamin Franklin didn't get his wish where the Turkey would have been the Federal Bird.  ^^  Somehow, Fried or stuffed Bald Eagle just doesn't sound as tempting.

Elle,
I myself have always felt that the American Bald Eagle is perfect for our country, and the idea of the Turkey as our national symbol is kind of lame. The Eagle portrays strength where as the Turkey portrays dinner.

*Laughs*  Fred, the Eagle is proud, majestic, intelligent, and inspiring.

The Turkey is stupid, hands down.

But the turkey is at least, tasty.  ;)  Which is why that made me sad to think the Eagle beat it out; when compared to Australians eating their Emu and Roo.  Absolutely no other reason than comedic humour.

Ah ElleKitty you know NOT the wild turkey. Stupid it is not and quite a challenge to put on the table. The slightest movement of ONE little finger will send him on his/her way. Very keen senses and very wary of all things around them. I sat quietly in camoflague, amoung over 60 turkeys in deer season and they did not even know I was there. They passed within inches, scouring the ground for food and taking turns climbing upon the rotten log in front of me (little over two feet) to flap their wings and strut while I enjoyed every minute of it. The key here was the mere fact I did not move and they knew it wasn't turkey season!!!

Very ture. Hunting wild turkeys can be quite dangerous, becaue the same "hunter orange" clothing that keeps deer hunters from shooting each other scares the turkeys away. So you gotta go all camo.

The idea of secret santa and secret bunny is to keep your identity secret.  Sometimes that is impossible.

The main way you can be identified is you name and address as sender on your package......so you could put

FROM:   Secret Bunny
            your address

Maybe you would not be known that way.

Some like to identify themselves but that is up to you.

The main thing here is to have a bit of fun by sending and receiving coins.  Enjoy.

I went ahead and mailed mine out today. I left my name off of the return address. But I forgot that the customs form asks for the name of the sender. I tried to be just slightly creative, but standing at the counter with a long line behind me, I didn't have much time to think. So the recipient won't have to do a whole lot of detective work if they want to find out who their secret bunny/bilby is. lol. Oh well. ;D ;D

As the 'Turtle' was swimming past my place yesterday, it picked up a hitch hiker.  I hope it can carry the extra weight OK. although I have to say it was swimming effortlessly & appeared wll rested. You obviously took good care of it Tobyle.  ;D

I must say I am dragging my feet a bit as I intend to have the turtle deliver mine as close to Bunny Day as I actually can. Will take a little guess work but I am going to give it a go. I just hope the turtle doesn't have a vacation coming up to spoil my plans!!! ;D

I am in a dither about what to send my Secret Bunny person :(  Plus, I have so little time for normal things with this house thing going on. I feel so guilty!

Do add this coin to my collection?

Secret Bunny gifts from my wife (MountainLady) and myself were mailed off today.  One will just require a cross country flight, while the other will have to make use of a turtle.

It may seem a little early to do the "Secret Bunny" thing, however if you look at it as more of a "Coming of Spring" thing, rather than a celebration of Easter, then now is a good time to send the coins.

They are uninsured, so hope they arrive safely.

Well, it looks like I'm first ;D My bunny/bilby apparently just had to hop a little ways down I-70 from Colorado. He/she must have looked at some of my past posts to see that I love those large shiny proof coins! A very nice 1974-S Ike $
This one will sit on the table next to my favorite chair for a while to be admired.
Thank you very much!

The Bunny showed up today with a beautiful Stamped Envelope of the Bounding Kangaroos $1 coin, and a 20 Cent Bilby coin. The Bilby didn't look like chocolate so I decided not to eat it.

Thanks Easter Bilby!!!

The turtle did its job magnificently, making it across the great expanse of Ocean from Australia to the U.S. in fine time.

Triggersmob sent a wonderful package, which included "Secret Bunny" gifts for MountainLady.  She was very pleased with what she received.

So, add MountainLady to the list of pleased Secret Bunny recipients.

"8" days Gary. Not bad for a turtle from Delta to Nanango!
A wonderful Easter gift.
A silver Eisenhower dollar.
You American fishermen certainly use good bait, but I promised Gizmo that I would not buy any more foreign silver coins this month. :D :D

Thanks Gary, very generous of you.

My, not so secret bunny/Bilby arrived today.

A big thank you to Fred, for a beautiful silver ring with a Mexican 20 Centavo on the front.
It appears to be a real coin.

It is a very thoughtful gift, as I really like the Mexican coins (I think Fred has been looking in my Gallery).
Fred, do you know the history of this ring? Can you tell me anything about it?

Trigg,
I picked that up in Mexico years ago. It is Heavy Sterling, I like the fact that there is no hollowing out of the silver under the coin, and the real coin is a KM# 438, 0.7200 Silver. I had often thought of popping the coin out, but I didn't want to damage the coin, and I figured it would make a nice Bilby gift. The mintage is 2,500,000 for the coin. I'm glad you like it. I wore it a few time, but it seems a bit too big to wear all the time. Enjoy!!

My secret bunny arrived safe and sound bearing Australian dollars which will reside in Indiana for years to come. Also received an unexpected package from Minky which I must say THANK YOU for! We will have to get together and hopefully find something for this side of the big pond to send back that way!!! My Aussie collection is starting to shape up. Just got to make up my mind what I want to do next? Twenty cents, fifty cents or those beautiful big old coppers with the Roo on them!!! Decisons, decisions, decisions!!! ;D

My Secret Bunny gift arived yesterday.  I received a beautiful set of 1963 Canadian coins (Unc, I think). A huge Panama 1970 5 Balboa & an 1893 Columbian Half dollar, commemorating the Chicago World's Expo.  All I can say is WOW!!!  ;D ;D ;D WOW!!!  ;D ;D ;D WOW!!!  ;D ;D ;D

I sort of know who my S. Bunny was, well, not exactly, it could have been from one of two people, and I know I'll be correct when I say, "Thanks Terry!"

The Secret Bunny arrived in today's mail, carrying some of the most beautiful coins I have seen in a long time.

The coins included a New Zealand dollar, a Samoan dollar, uncirculated English coins, and an uncirculated Greek coin.  Very nice!!

The Secret Bunny rode across the ocean on a turtle, so I know it came from Australia.  But, don't know who sent it.  That's what "secret" means I guess.

Whoever you are, thanks so much!!

My apologies to all of the Knights and to the Knightesses of this forum. I received a new computer from my kids for Christmas. I'm not too swift on a computer, but get by. I had an email account with the old computer and could NOT access the old account. Well, as time went by, I did not access my old email account because I couldn't......I only used my regular email acct. Only TODAY, Thur, Mar 13, 2008 did I figure how to access the old acct. There was the Secret Bunny address that I should send to, and there was someone requesting a confirmation of my name and addy to send me something for Secret Bunny. I have the addy to send TO, and I believe I confirmed my name and addy to the one that requested it.

I am somewhat concerned about my old email addy, so I have changed my email addy FROM the old email addy (@charter.net) to my regular email addy (@yahoo.com).
My Secret Bunny package will be sent tomorrow.....it might be late. And whoever has me (Goose), please reply either way.....if you DID or DID Not receive my name and addy.

My apologies again to all. Goose

A huge thank you to my (not so) Secret Bunny!  I recieved three lovely Australian coins in the UNC Cards.  A fifty cent Scout coin, the 50 cent Anniversary coin, and the Coat of Arms Dollar coin!

Obviously my Bunny knew my tastes in coins, quite well. ;D

And, to my poor Bunny Recipient, I -finally- got the packet out in the mail today. ><  My husband was supposed to have sent it out last week, but somehow he forgot and it has been in his glove box the whole time.  I'm praying it makes it to you safely.  For years I've never had a problem, but suddenly I've started having difficulty sending and receiving.

I'll breathe easier when I see the packet posted as arrived.  Hope you enjoy!

Do add this coin to my collection?
