Aussie Short Snorter.
November 21, 2007, 09:40:07 PM
G'day all.
As promised, when I regained access to the Forum, I would run a competion.
The prize will be an Australian $2.00 note signed by as many Aussie Forum members
as I can cajole or beg to sign it. A Short Snorter. $2.00 Oz banknotes were last used in 1988.

For the uninformed, a Short Snorter, is a bank note signed by a group of people  who have a common aim or goal. It is believed they started with soldiers signing each others bank notes on the eve of a battle as a form of memento. However they have evolved a bit by todays standards.

It will take a few weeks to get the note signed and I will advise in the future what form the competion will take, probably a date guessing comp..

I have contacted most of the Aussie members already by email and have had a good response. If any Oz members that I have missed  who would like to be in it and sign the note, please send me an email or PM and I will add your name to the list.

I will create two 'short snorters'. One as a prize for the contest (Aussies ineligible) and one to go to the Aussies who signed the note, the Oz winner to be selected by a luckey draw out of the hat. Myself excluded. If my wife refuses to make the draw then I will ask my dog.:)

Regards,

Muckeye ~ Knight #30

Sounds like an interesting proposition to me! Tell your dog, should he do the drawing, that U.S. dog biscuits are on my bribe list! Also advise your wife, should she do the drawing, we have things for the ladies up here too!!! Look forward to your competition as winning a "short snorter" would be another first in my long list of things I have never done!!! ;D

Howza about having a KOTCT wide Shortsnorter project? This could be right fun, we over here in Far North Eastern Oz could do one here, then send there, and vicey versy.

I coordinated the shortsnorter project over at Coinpeople, we had the notes go even to Romania, Canada, Spain, Finland, Netherlands, Germany etc.

I would suggest that each member might be able to send in a note of their choice for the project to a coordinator here and there, or in one place then they get sent around for all the signatures, that way everybody has a note that have travelled all about.  I would rather prefer to go on holiday to take mine down there, since Summer is here in Oz, and we hae 5cm of snowzers on the ground here:)

I think that would be a lovely idea.  I would happily participate and can definitely find a note to send out.  My only concern is that the Certificate travelling the US has already gotten lost... would the same fate await?

Do add this coin to my collection?

G'day all,

TKO-100,  Contest guidelines have yet to be announced and as yet I have not finalised them. I expect it could take up to 3 weeks to get all the signatures here in Oz.

Regarding a Forum wide Short Snorter, we would need to find  an A4 sized note. :D :D However I do believe they exist???

Maybe we could all just write really small?  I know my normal signature would take up nearly the whole length of the bill.  ><  I might just do a pawprint on it though!

My only concern is that the Certificate travelling the US has already gotten lost... would the same fate await?

I would suggest that the note only be sent to those who have been regular 'posters' on the forum & who have expressed interest in the project.

There are a heap of members who have not posted since joining, so I wouldn't even contemplate sending it to them if I was Muckeye.

To keep it moving along, folks would have to agree to sign it & send it on to the next person ASAP.

Re: Aussie Short Snorter. (update 1st Jan. 2008)
December 31, 2007, 09:41:45 PM
G'day all.

I have just received an email from Snooba. The notes will be on their way tomorrow and Snooba (Kathryn) has apologised for the delay.

Her son Prawn (Vaughan) has been in hospital and arrived home with his mother today, hence the delay. :) :) :)

I'll take the liberty of wishing you both, on behalf of the Knights and Knightess's, a Happy New Year and a speedy recovery for Vaughan. We also hope his test results are good.

So the good news is Vaughan is home and the notes are on their way again. If Snooba follows the list I sent her with the notes, (not mandatory), the next recipient will be 'triggersmob'.  However, that's up to Snooba.  Hopefully, now that the Xmas mail rush is over, the notes might get to all the signatories within 3 or 4 weeks. Fingers crossed. Then a certain Canadian gentleman might be able to receive his prize. :D

Thanks everybody for your patience.

regards,   muckeye.

In Oztralia, the definition of "Yank" is anyone living in one of the 50 states. Most of us wouldn't know what a "Mason-Dixon line" is. Oops, me neither Lol (had to look it up). Where's the embarrassed smiley?

In the southern states of those 50 states, 'Yank' is a dirty word.  ;)  Comes from being on the losing side of that nasty Civil War, I suppose.

Then we'll know who the cats' mother is.

Just don't drink anything with X's on the can. I believe the X stands for poison. There's one with 4 of em so it's probably quite toxic.  ;D

Offended?  Me?  That's pretty hard to do, yessiree.  No, I'm not offended, but I sure am enjoying the show. :D

Honestly though. Yank/Yankee is the slang term for people in the North East, especially the New York vicinity.  A true Southerner wouldn't get offended, he just wouldn't even consider that you might be talking about him in the first place. ;)

IT'S OVER.
Thanks all.  The notes finally arrived back to me today.
Topher, you can relax. The only worry you have now is with the various postal services.
I will get your reward off to you as soon as possible.

I would like to announce that a duplicate second Short Snorter was signed during this exercise. It was to be  a bonus prize to one of the signatories.  However, by mutual agreement, it was decided that it should be awarded to TKO to services to the Forum, in line with what Old Dan donated to TKO some weeks ago..

Both awards will be posted off this week.

My sincere thanks to all the Aussies who helped make this little exercise possible.

There is a small award to one of the lucky signatories which will be decided and talked about later.

Thank you all.
regards,
muckeye.

G'day all.
It's good to have at last got it finalised.

The signatory's prize, which was a copy of an old Austalian one pound note, also sent around with the the genuine Short Snorters, was drawn out of a hat this AM by my wife with the dog GIzmo as referee.

The luckey winner is.........

........................drum roll.................

'Tobyle'  alias Anna. :D :D :D         Congratulations my dear.
It will  be mailed today along with prizes.
Photo copies to all the other Oz members.

My congratulations to you also Anna!

As for what I read about the other half of this project down under, I can never thank all of you enough.

I wish that someday soon we can all get together for the first annual Knights of the Coin Table Crusade! What a grand time it would be for all to be able to sit around a real round table together telling our stories, guzzling our grog.

May I suggest we do this the first time in style... How about, Christmas in Maui! All for one and one for all!

Oh well... maybe someday.

Thanks to all again!

I received my copy of the signed down under duce today. I am going to put this A.S.S. (Aussie Short Snorter) with my other A.S.S. (American Short Snorter) in a frame and hang them on the wall at my computer desk.

I can't wait to show my A.S.S.'s off to everyone. I can explain that one A.S.S. has been all over North America and the other A.S.S. has been all over Australia. Talk about getting around!

Once again, thanks to everyone for their generous gifts. I plan on hanging on to these for a while then possibly sending them around for everyone to see (like the pet set).

All for now,

My package arrived yesterday.  Included was the Aussie Short Snorter (see pic below), a good pic of an Emu on a farm in Marburg, (sorry, I couldn't get my software to resize and rotate properly - yet), and some bonuses:  a 2000 Incused 50c (Woohoo!!), a 2006 $1 MoR, and a 2007 $2.  All were new additions to my collection, either by KM# or in the case of the incused 50c, a variety I lacked.

Thank you all who graciously signed this, and a special thanks to Muckeye-San for organizing the contest.  It will be the cornerstone of my fledgling banknote collection.
