QUIZ
August 01, 2010, 06:26:21 PM
Here's a quiz for everyone to have a go at: I've supplied the first answer, when you think you have all the other answers. PM them to me. I'll let you know if they are correct or not.

I'll leave it open for about 10 days, then announce the winner, who will receive a prize of my choosing. The first person to get all the answers correct will win.  (No correspondence will be entered into).

Be careful with your answers, if the correct answer is single & the answer you supply is plural (or vice - versa), I will deem it to be
incorrect.

Closing on 12 August, at whatever time it shows when I post this.

Please - DO NOT POST ANSWERS HERE.

I have done this a few times before, so I will not enter.

It's a lot of fun if you haven't done it before.

Re: QUIZ

I will be sending prizes out to both EgCollector and nohope587.

This is a Mensa Quiz and if you got 19 or more correct without looking any of it up, you are in the range of a genius. When I first took the test some years ago, I got stuck on #28.  I knew the last 2 words but couldn't get the P of C.  Mind you, it took me about 3 days to get ALL the other answers.  A Dr eventually gave me the P of C answer.

Here are the answers.

No.     Clue                               Answer
0.   24 H in a D..........................24 Hrs in a Day
1.   26 L of the A.......................26 Letters of the Alphabet
2.   7 D of the W.......................7 Days of the Week
3.   7 W of the W......................7 Wonders of the World
4.   12 S of the Z.....................12 Signs of the Zodiac
5.   66 B of the B......................66 Books of the Bible
6.   52 C in a P (WJs)................52 Cards in a Pack (Without Jokers)
7.   13 S in the USF..................13 Stripes in the US Flag
8.   18 H on a G C....................18 Holes on a Golf Course
9.   39 B of the O T..................39 Books of the Old testament
10.   5 T on a F.......................5 Toes on a Foot.
11.   90 D in a R A....................90 Degrees in a Right Angle
12.   3 B M (S H T R)................3 Blind Mice (See How They Run)....
13.   32 is the T in D F at which W F/32 is the Temperature in Degrees Fahrenheit at which Water Freezes.......................
14.   15 P in a R T....................15 Players in a Rugby Team
15.   3 W on a T......................3 Wheels on a Tricycle
16.   100 C in a R.....................100 Cents in a Rand
17.   11 P in a F (S) T...............11 Players in a Football (Soccer) Team
18.   12 M in a Y......................12 Months in a Year
19.   13 is UFS........................13 is Unlucky For Some
20.   8 T on a O.......................8 Tentacles on an Octopus
21.   29 D in F in a L Y..............29 Days in February in a Leap Year
22.   27 B in the N T.................27 Books in the New Testament
23.   365 D in a Y....................365 Days in a Year
24.   13 L in a B D...................13 Loaves in a Bakers Dozen
25.   52 W in a Y.....................52 Weeks in a Year
26.   9 L of a C.......................9 Lives of a Cat
27.   60 M in a H.....................60 Minutes in an Hour.
28.   23 P of C in the H B..........23 Pairs of Chromosomes in the Human Body

32.   1000 Y in a M..................1000 Years in a Millenium
33.   15 M on a D M C..............15 Men on a Dead Mans Chest

Now nohope can give us the alternative answer to 90 D in a RA.

PM sent to EgCollector.

Around 1970 I entered a Mensa quizz and they said I qualified and was in the top 1 percentile and then they asked me the equivalent of 500 $ today for a years subscription
They could not understand I kept laughing all the way back  ::)

First they prove you are intelligent and then they insult you by trying to fleece you
The price may have been no problem for a rich guy but was very high for a student  ???

Re: QUIZ

Now nohope can give us the alternative answer to 90 D in a RA

90 degrees in a right ascension

There is a coordinate system in the sky corresponding to longitude on Earth. The corresponding coordinate in the sky is called right ascension. Unlike longitude, which is measured in degrees and minutes, right ascension is measured in hours and minutes. There are 24 hours of right ascension corresponding to the full sweep of 360 degrees around the celestial equator. Simple division will tell you that each hour of right ascension must be equivalent to 15 degrees of arc.
so 90 degrees in a right ascension means 4hrs. If you navigate or do sun azimuths like me, its the first answer that comes into your head. I got it wrong on the Mensa test when I took it for real. I appealed the decision but got nowhere so I decided I did not want to be a member of such an inflexible bunch...

Besides which my spelling and grammar are not up to par..

But if each hour of right ascension is equivalent to 15 degrees of arch then would 90 degrees of right ascension not  mean 6 hrs?

Now you see why I am lost at sea most of the time....
Without a computer to do the math for me I'm lost. I don't use the Hrs in RA as my sextant is in degrees
I have a handy excel spread sheet that I just type in the degrees and it gives me the RA. I knew I should have used it before replying because some one is bound to point out any errors I make...
