I HAVE NOT HEARD OR READ ANYTHING ABOUT MEDALS OR TOKENS FOR THE NEXT YEAR---IS THERE ANY MOVEMENT IN THAT DIRECTION?--I DON'T KNOW WHO HANDLES THAT AND MAYBE I'M JUST EARLY IN ASKING---DO WE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHAT WOULD GO ON THE MEDALS--WHO WOULD MINT THEM--DAN CARR?--JUST CURIOUS

The way things look right now, this years medals may be next years! Guess we will have to make a decision soon on whether to use the 2009 date or the 2010 date? If and when I know more I will pass it on. I do want to make sure the interest is still there as the medallions are a costly quest!

PERHAPS A POLL OF ALL THE MEMBERS WHO WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN OBTAINING A MEDAL WOULD HELP?--MAYBE STRIKE THE MEDAL IN ONLY ONE TYPE OF METAL--THAT WAY IT WOULD KEEP THE COST DOWN----EVEN A WOODEN NICKEL--AT LEAST WE WOULD KEEP THE TRADITION GOING ON---AND THE WOODEN NICKELS COME IN DIFFERENT SIZES---JUST A THOUGHT OR TWO---IF I CAN BE OF ANY SERVICE LET ME KNOW---THERE IS A WOODEN NICKEL COMPANY IN TEXAS WITH FAIR PRICES--DEPENDING ON HOW MANY COLORS USED--AND THE MAIN COST IS THE INIITIAL SET UP IF WE CHOOSE A PICTURE THEY DON'T HAVE.

I think it would be too bad to see the Daniel Carr medillion tradition come to an end.

Certainly, the hour grows late.  Daniel needs to be contacted and we need to find out 2009 theme and cost, and delivery date.  If nobody else takes the bull by the horns, I'll contact Daniel.

We're a "can do" organization, so let's get with it.

I definitely want the next KOTCT Medallion of the presses, regardless of the date on it.  Maybe it could be dual dated 2009/2010.

Daniel may be too caught up in business to be able to get them done this year.

What about just using the old design with 2008-2
Adding a modifier would virtually cost nothing and the medals can be struck
or an oldfashaned overstrike 2009 over 2008  :D

Where I am going I ain't certain
Where I am going I don't know
All I know is that I'am on my way

AN OVERSTRIKE WOULD SEEM TO BE THE LEAST EXPENSIVE--BUT I KNOW LITTLE ABOUT THE MINTING PROCESS.

A dual date was exaclty what I was about to propose. That way we could have a new design and have medals for both '09 and 2010, although it would really be combined on one medal  ;) It would also keep costs to a minimum by making it one project to cover both years. Also, it would be a tradition we could choose to continue because a. It would cost less and b. It seems that we're always scrambling to get this done at the end of the year. Therefore if we scrambled to get it done by the end of the year, it would still be dated appropriately since it would come out near the changing of the first year dated on the coin and the second.

What about changing the date to 2009 and stamping the coins out on old silver dollars, maybe keeping one side of the dollar, with our design on the other side. Anyone got some spare 1921 Morgans?

I MIGHT BE ABLE TO COME UP WITH SOME 1922 PEACE DOLLARS--NOT SURE HOW MANY--ALSO I MIGHT HAVE SOME OLDER MORGANS--I HAVE SEEN THEM IN BOXES FOR ABOUT $11 EACH--VARIOUS DATE MORGANS--THEY MIGHT WORK --BUT I WOULD NEED AN AMOUNT PRETTY SOON BEFORE SILVER COSTS INCREASE BECAUSE MY COFFERS ARE A LITTLE LEAN RIGHT NOW---WHAT EVER YOU DECIDE

We are saving quite a chunk by using the reverse die from here on out. Same design as last year. It is now an official logo of sorts. There will be NO sculpting or engraving fees for the reverse. It does not matter how many types of metal we use with the 38mm dies as nothing changes except the metal blanks. Now we do pay extra for the 63mm pewter medallions but we will also keep the same reverse on them so, if I remember correctly we will eliminate about $600 by keeping those same reverses. The reason we offer silver, copper and antiqued copper is to have a variety of options that will fit most pocketbooks. If we strike silver only the cost would rise substancially due to the lower amount of medals struck. We need the variety to raise the extra funds for this project. And, I might mention many members by an example of each which helps us with an anticipated 160 medallions to make the project feasable and affordable to most of us.
Gary if you would please make contact with Daniel to see if he has indeed started the medallion quest. That should be our first move at this time. Our second move should be a new cost estimate as precious metals have gone up.

I would also like to point out that prices will be fixed or locked, which ever you see fit to call it as it is imperative that we break even on this project. Should know more soon.
