Quickie Exchange - October - Sign up now!
September 30, 2008, 08:44:09 PM
This is just for the folks that want to participate in a whirlwind exchange to tide us over until the big one at the end of January.

1. Sign up in this thread to participate.
2. Send your physical mailing address to Kitty, unless she's already got it and you know she's got it.
3. Kitty will send to you the name of a Knight and their address.
4. Pick out a gift of coins or coin related items.
5. Send the gift to the Knight.
6. For added fun, try to keep yourself anonymous! (Not required.)
7. When your exchange gift arrives, post a picture to share with the membership what your buddy sent. :)  At least post a confirmation of receipt.

Do add this coin to my collection?

Any chance of still putting my name in the hat? Internet went down again yesterday and have only just made it home from the night shift (after a few detours on the way home). It's OK though if it is too late - will just look forward to the next one.

October Quickie Exchange: ----Sorry, I don't know the 'screen' name of "T of T" (Tracy of Texas), but today I received the most glorious 'batch' of coins from 20 different countries (I think 20, I have to research 4 of them in which I don't know). Large coins, medium coins, small coins....all greatfully accepted. I'm only up to 49 different foreign countries' coins, and with this 'batch', the country count will rise dramatically. Thank you Tracy.  Goose

Three varieties of Canadian coins that are more than what they seem :)

KurtS was kind enough to share some of his bargain finds with me, as my buddy gift.  Pictured above we have the 1947 Maple Leaf Blunt 7 coin,
the 1979 'A' to denticles variety (rare!), and the 1953 Shoulder fold obverse coins.  :D

Thank you so much for this Centsational Monday!

Do add this coin to my collection?

Glad you like them!  They are special varieties of seemingly ordinary Canadian cents.
Two are tough to find, and the 1949 quite scarce and sought-after--I simply lucked upon an unsearched cache.
Happy to share.   ;D

The 1967 set are some of my favorite coin designs.
Btw, if you can post a pic of the other side--there's a "diving goose" variety that's worth checking for.

My secret package arrived a couple days ago.  Sorry, forgot to post that it arrived.

I received a strange Aussie 20¢ coin, not sure what's happened to it, rather 'damaged' on both sides; plus a 1974 commemorative (Winnipeg) Canadian Dollar.

I really don't know who sent them, so thanks to my secret Oz buddy, whoever you are!  ;D

Here's a pic from a dealer of the "double yoke" variety. I've added an arrow noting an extra yoke post on the reverse.
There are two other dies with an extra yoke in slightly different spots. This variety is valued around $100 is MS60.
It's only found on circulating coins--not the silver versions.

Glad you like it Nancy  :) I love the Canadian silver dollars, this one had a mintage of 628,183 and an issue price of $3. As for the 20c, no idea what happened to it, I just thought it was interesting.

Sorry I couldn't send the case with the dollar, but they weren't the best and it fell apart a long time ago. I have since removed all of them from their cases and put them into 2x2s. Looks much nicer on a page.

Thanks Sean! I thought you might have been my secret 'buddy', but there were a couple others that fit the bill as well, so I wasn't sure.  ;)

The 20¢ is interesting to say the least.  I have another that may have been given an acid bath, but the one you sent has different features on each side, where the one I've had for a while shows similar features on both sides.  Certainly conversation pieces, that's for sure! ;D

Sean,
Yes--a lot of the Canada NCLT $1 issues have particularly low mintages, some recent circulating commens too.
Then again, some of the older circ dollars do too. My 1938 $1 has a 90,304 mintage.
I'm looking for the 1947 "Maple Leaf" coin which had only 21,135.  :)

Thank you to my anonymous (somewhere in QLD) October Quickie Sender.

I have erecived an exceptional quantity of tokens, combined with four presidential dollars and two state quaters.

The tokens are a set(?) of:
  • Shell's Mr President Coin Game
  • Landmarks of America
  • States of the Union

They are absolutely great. Love them

A big thank you to "A. Friend" who sent me the very nice Franklin Half.
It's not only a nice MS-64 coin, but a 1954-S, which is a low mintage (4.9M)
And not only a low mintage, but a great strike!  (Many Franklin halves were struck with worn dies--not this one.)
That was very generous, friend!  I've really enjoyed these exchanges!  :D

Had the kids at work all laughing at me the other day because I didn't know what they meant by "that's random".

Well, their explanation of the use of that remark was 'very good', 'fantastic' or 'excellent'.

Here's something totally random but relevant too, so check it out!:D
Btw--I do remember the whole idea of slang is to have a "code" that adults won't understand. As a teen, we had our own lingo that was suitably annoying to teachers n' 'rents  :D.

Somehow the years pass away, yet as an "adult" you hold the same curiosity and hopes for our world. Perhaps that's why I'm involved in education.

ElleKitty's comment of 'Totally awesome' is probably closer to the meaning ...... and no, don't think they are pulling my leg, as it has been used by various groups of adolescents that we've had on the ward.

Definitely not middle-aged!  I refuse to be middle-aged, and there's only 2 years difference between Latman and myself, so there.  :p

Do add this coin to my collection?

A pssst to Justa....we're all aging--at generally the same speed;D
Nobody controls aging...just don't lose whatever makes you feel young--that you can control.  :)

I sea kayak,
Snowboard,
Rock climb,
Bicycle,
Rollerblade,
hike,
And wrestle large, wild animals for fun (I work at a marine mammal hospital)
then there are the regular life-or-death battles with crabs in my kitchen.  :D

Yep...I'm "at death's door"--that's me;D
Age is immaterial...it's what you do with your time.

Why would I want to hop around?  I prefer Yoga, much more controlled, graceful and painful.

Another great exchange of gifts completed thanks to Kitty.

Just thought that I would scan the Aussie bi-metallic coin I received so that you can all take a look:

Thank you Justa

Received your package today. You have helped me fill some gaps in my kids collections, AND some in my own. I now have my first completed US series (or mini series), the westward journey nickles.

As well as a couple more IHCs I didn't have, dollars and dimes.

Thank you very much

 ;D :D ;D :D
