If you would like to exchange a gift with other forum members, to celebrate the end of 2009, please post a reply here.
I will organize things if no one else indicates their willingness to do so.
Let's see if we can get all active Knights to participate.
Cut off date for entries will be 15th December.

as they say "been there, done that", will certainly do it again.
regards, muckeye.
I know that there a few different cultures amongst us, but is there any problems with
calling it the "Christmas Exchange", Xmas is such a jolly time of the year.
It brings out the child in all of us, so to speak.
Just my humble opinion.
regards and good wishes to all. :D :D :D

Come on Nevol, aren't you going to put your name down this time?
Might as well. You can choose yourself a partner randomly.

PYW--AREN'T YOU GOING TO JOIN IN ON THE GIFT EXCHANGE?
COME ON --JOIN IN--ALL FOR ONE!

Hmmm...I might. What I could do is randomly choose another entrant to ramdomly choose my gift giver.
I was hoping for a better response, but it seems like there's only 14-15 Knights prepared to join in with Secret gift exchanges, 16 if I include myself this time. It's a little disappointing really. :'( :'(
Not many KNIGHTS with a sense of adventure? ??? ::)
-
I wish more would join in on the fun. The only that's more fun than waiting on a coin to come in the mail is waiting on an unknown coin to come in the mail. ;D ;D
-
Some collector are so attached to there coins, they do not want to give any away.
I think our "Secret Santa" is great fun.
-

I can understand how they feel. I look on all my coins as my 'babies' and it tears me up to part with any of them, but.. somehow I manage to make the sacrifice.
-
We also have to keep in mind those members from countries where the mail system is a 'little' unreliable and find that their incoming mail has been 'tampered' with.
-
I agree with you 100% Nancy, it's some sort of a 'problem' that I really enjoy. BUT, it's really a pleasure to receive a coin(s) from a 'furrin' country and to send a coin(s) and possibly a currency note to a country that is o v e r t h e r e....wherever that may be.

Nancy, looking back over our previous 'gift exchanges', I think this equals our best number of participants (as long as you put your name on the list), which isn't too bad seeing as a few of the original participants don't appear to be active posters any more.
Seems there are about 24 members who log in on a regular basis, so I guess those numbers aren't too bad.
I - and I'm sure all the other participants as well - appreciate the work you are doing to get this organised once again!
-
Nancy puts a lot of hard work into this forum and we all appreciate you for it. ;D ;D

Thats exactly how I feel. I did manage to part with some things from my collection in the past, but sometimes for the gift exchanges I'll stop at the shop and buy something so I won't have muhc time to get attached to it.

IT APPEARS THAT WE HAVE A FEW NEW PEOPLE TO THE CASTLE--MAYBE THEY WOULD LIKE TO TAKE PART IN THE GIFT EXCHANGE?
THE TEMPLAR(http://)

No newbies lately, our member dannyrox has been AWOL ( :D ;D) for a while & is just catchiing up on things.
The 'welcome' posts are all from some months ago and only one of the 'newbies' has ever made a post. None of them have been active so far this month.

How about, this time around, we enclose something else other than a coin (as well as the coin or coins).
Just to make it extra interesting. Maybe set a price about $2 and it can be anything (keep it legal though).
Just a thought.
-
Good idea Steve!!
:) :) :) :)
-
Yea ok why not since im back :P
-
Welcome back Justabeginner! I hope your exams went ok.
I've sent you a PM re a coin I still have here for you.

Hey tobyle, have you recieved my reply?
Sorry, yes Justabeginner, I did get your message - it was when I went to reply to you that I found I was locked out of the 'Castle'. Back in now, but my internet connection has been playing up. Will send PM now.

I WOULD BE WILLING TO INCLUDE SOMETHING ELSE ALONG WITH A COIN OR TWO--IN FACT THE MORE SURPRISES THE BETTER
GETTING IN THE SPIRIT--THE TEMPLAR(http://)

That sounds fine with me.
We need somewhere,on our profile, for each member to list their collecting interests, that would make gift giving a little easier.
When will the names be drawn?

Cut off date is 15 Dec, so I'll draw the names on 16th, and all will be notified of their Secret Santa assignments ASAP after then.
I'll need names & addresses from anyone who hasn't already sent them. ;D

Hey GregK, good to see you online! ;D ;D
-
Nevol .... and all knights and knightessess who have put their names in ..... should the cut off date be brought forward? Just thinking about the Christmas postal rush and the increased risk of items going astray? ....... Just a thought.
-
Ok, due to the overwhelming number of requests, (2) { ;D }, I'll bring the cutoff date forward to next Tuesday 8th December. That will give everyone an extra week to get their gift organised and on the way to their recipient.
Well.. actually... it'll give them a week less to get it organised, but it'll allow an extra week for postage. :) ;) :D ;D :o 8) ??? ::) :P :-*
PS:I still need an address for Krasni Vityaz
-
it'll give them a week less to get it organised, but it'll allow an extra week for postage
Oh - I wasn't even thinking of 'getting organised' until I knew who my recipient was ........ guess I had better get my thinking gear into action.
BTW - Thanks Nancy!
-
Mhmm. I can't do a thing with this til I know who my recipient is, I still have to buy a gift for the coin club Christmas Party... the whole problem of trying to get to the post office anyway (gosh the lines get long this time of year. >< I'll probably have to send my husband, and he won't be happy. Stupid work.)
And, there's really no way it's going to make it there before Christmas anyway. Ah well.
-
:) Thanks Nancy, I don't get much time these days.
-
OK. It's Tuesday 8th Dec here in OZ, so I'll be doing the draw today.
Unfortunately, I still have no Postal address for Krazny Vityaz so I'll have to remove his name from the list. :'( :'( :'(
Everyone else should receive their assigned recipient within the next few hours.
I'll post another message here once all the PM's have been sent and I'll endeavour to give everyone a different 'Secret Santa' than the Secret Gift Giver they had for the Knights 2nd Anniversary give away I conducted back in October. ;D :D ;) :-*

Thanks for organising this, Nancy.
I'm doing the Secret Santa at Stamp Community, so I know how much organising is involved.
Did we set a $ value on the gift?
Everyone, don't forget to send your random $2 object, it can be anything.
-
Thanks Nancy,
This is one of many things that make KOTCT interesting to members.
:) :) :) :)
-
Random $2 object ??? possum ;D ;D
How much are we going to spend on the gift?
-
In the past, from memory, the general amount settled on was up to $25.00, but we need to bear in mind that we have a few young 'uns participating this time around & I think that's too much for them to aspire to.
I don't want to set a lower limit either, so I'll leave it up to each & everyone to spend what they can afford - within reason. ;)
I got caught doing some other things today, haven't done the draw yet, but it's coming soon. :P
-
Please check your message box for your assigned person.
If you can't find my message, look in your junk folder.
All (except one) 2009 KOTCT Secret Santa' details have been sent.
The one I haven't sent yet is because I'm waiting for an adddress. I won't mention any ID's here as that would eliminate the 'Secret" part. Messages have been sent to both the sender & reciever involved, so I hope to receive the required address ASAP. (And No, it doesn't involve KV)
-
PM received, Nancy - thanks. And thanks for organizing this again.
I'll leave it up to each & everyone to spend what they can afford - within reason
Sounds good!

Recieved mine thanks Nancy.

Received mine too.

Nancy,
I need the recipients for my grandkids.
If you e-mail me the names and addresses, I'll work with the kids in selecting coins and getting them in the mail.
Thanks.
:) :) :) :)
-
OK Gary, PM sent with relevant info. ;D
-
Recieved mine also
-
Heck, received my notice last night.......gift sent today -- gotta beat the Christmas rush.
-
Got it
-
Went to my usual post office near work today, to buy a nice coin.
Only to find out they don't sell coins any more. Apparantly they weren't
selling enough. Now I have to wait till Saturday to go to another post office. :(
-
The grandkids are going through their coins, trying to find something suitable to mail out.
Should have coins in the mail by this weekend,
:) :) :) :)
-
Hmm. I haven't got mine yet... I had to change my email address here at the forum.
I know it's late, but is there anyway you could resend? I think I've got my pressie all picked out, I just need to address it. :)
-

Thanks Nevol! I shouldn't have to ask for that again. Got the email thing taken care of. :)
-
Got my email and sent out a package yesterday 12/8 ;D
-
Mine will be in the mail by Saturday. Hope the recipient likes coins ;D ;D ;D
-
Two grandkids and I are taking part in this gift exchange. All three of us were given names of Australian collectors.
Our postal officials insist on a customs form and a return address, which I submitted for all three packages.
The point is -- our gifts won't be "secret" to the recipients.
So, hope the receivers accept the coins in the spirit they are offered, and we're sorry there's no secret involved.
:D :D :D :D
-
C C, yeah, I had the same trouble, I also sent the gift to a different country. I wanted to insure it going to xxxxx. The insurance would have been $24.80....needless to say, it wasn't insured. On the customs form, I put 'Coin Supplies' and value at $xx. After I filled the custom form, the postal lady suggested $5 to $10 for the 'Supplies'. After I left, I figured I goofed.....I should have put 'Hobby Supplies' and put an evaluation at $5. I hope it gets there. Also C C, so you had your name and return addy on it....would the person receiving it know it was from you with your screen name?
-
I never thought about customs or postage when I did the draw. :-[ :-[
If I have to fill out customs forms for overseas items, I only ever put "Hobby Supplies" and the value I declare is only ever $2.00, regardless of what's inside. ;)
I try to make sure the contents are not going to become 'attractive' to any one that handles the package. :P
I'm sorry if anyone had to jump through too many hoops to get their gift in the mail. 8)
I doubt that there will be too many of us that can't figure out who their Secret Santa is. ;D :D
-
HAVING SENT THINGS TO AUSTRALIA--I HAVE FOUND THAT "HOBBY SUPPLIES" IS A GOOD LABEL ALSO METAL TOKENS--AND KEEP THE INSURANCE DOWN--AND PRAY
TRYING TO HELP==THE TEMPLAR(http://)
-
Yep. Hobby supplies and low value on the customs forms is the way to go. I might find some creative way to disguise my identity. I'll have to think about it.
-
I figured a easier way to give a gift in Australia, I contacted a coin shop and had them send the item from there. No forms to fill out that way.
I think we need someplace on our profile for us to list what we collect or like, that would make gift giving much better.
madspec
-
Madspec, that's the fun of it.....a surprise! But, to gift a $25 silver crown and get in return an aluminum McDonalds' $1 token.....well, I guess that would also be a surprise.
-
As I write this, my daughter is mailing the packages.
Hope they arrive safely. They always have in the past.
I'm happy we do this each year. It's a fun event.
By the way, I always list "Hobby Supplies" on the form and use common sense when stating the value.
Gotta go. The postal person just arrived at the mail box. Maybe something is there.
:) :) :) :)
-
My package will be in the mail in a couple hours. ;D
I'm fairly confident that my recipient will enjoy what I'm sendnig. ;)
-
I managed to find something in my collection.
It went out in the mail today. I hope my recipient likes
the coins and the $2 random gift.
-
GIFTS ARE IN THE MAIL--I HOPE MY BOX OF CHRISTMAS VERIETIES BRINGS A SMILE TO THE PERSON'S FACE...

My gift will be sent out on Monday. It reckon the recipient will think it purrfect. ;D ::)
-
Mine is now in the mail too! ;)
-

Meeow! ;D :D ;D :D
Now this Secret Santa's no secret, anymore. ::)
-
My random gift is fairly unique and I'm pretty sure that my recipient doesn't have one of them. Issued during one year only. FV is NOT $2 though, just a little more. ;D :D ::) 8) ??? :o
Not quite the right item to become a pocket piece.
-
Our three packages (grandkids and I) are well out to sea on one of the best turtles in the Burke Turtle Service.
:D :D :D :D
-
Gift was sent yesterday.....I hate filling out those custom forms.....hope it gets there okay!!
-
Mine was posted today......hope it catches the next speedy turtle.
-
Does anyone know if there is any other internet group, coin related or not, that does this sort of exchange? It seems like a very unique tradition we have here. And I think its a great one that brings us closer together.
-
I agree.
The gift exchange is one of the things that keeps us close.
There are many members who I feel I know personally, even though we have never met.
When we had the opportunity to meet Twoshadows and TKO last fall, they turned out to be the wonderful people I had envisioned they were.
:) :) :) :)

I know of one other Coin related forum that has a Secret Santa each year, but I'm not mentioning any names. ;) ::) ???

And their stamp site also has one.

Forgot to mention - my gift was posted a few days ago - I just hope it got to leave the country before it may have been affected by the postal strike.
