Is there any sword collectors in here ????

I have a bayonet that i know a little about, but i do wanna know more info. So is there any chance that there is a sword collector in here or anyone got a friend who is?

I know practically nothing about them, but I have a civil war(1861-1865) era sword that was apparently from the Union side.

I did a search on the net, and i think it will be dated 1866 but not sure as i didnt find the exact one i have

Emr; First of all, I'm not an expert on these things, but must say that I never thought of a bayonet as a sword. I do have a couple of bayonets that I was issued while in the service. Also  a small collection of other knifes/Machetes that I have come across in my travels.
If at all possible, could you post a picture of your bayonet and I will attempt to put some dates and model numbers on it for you.

Thanks OldDan, but i think as i understood from the net search that this type of byonets are called a sword byonet because it is nearly as long as a sword. I may be wrong, i am not an export. i only have this one and i am even not sure what it is 

This is my bayonet, and from the search i did i think it may be a sword bayonet 1866 Chassepot as this site says

i found that site that describes a sword bayonet very similar to mine

regarding the marks on the blade;

The AC letters stands for Alex Coppel a german Manufacturer of Swords During the US Civil War

Blades made by Alex Coppel in Solingen may have been supplied through Belgian or British suppliers. The AC scales are clearly evident This blade is actually not French, all French blades have leading letter/letters

on the other side of the blade an engraved mark is placed "a letter Z in a circle"

this symbol or mark i didnt find anything about except that;

Bayonets used as side arms (without rifles) , bandsmen, officer's orderlies and nurses, after 1900 to the police officers. Usually scabbards for these blades  are blued (note : the Z letter can be found stamped on the Remington sword bayonets as well).

LOL, so does this mean it is American or Belgian

First, I compared the Z mark they are talking about in the above link with that on the side of my byonet nd there is no resembalnace neither in location nor in shape.

Second, I found no other links for a bayonet with this Z mark with or without the AC scales.

So i decided to search for the meaning of the Z letter in general and i found this;

The important thing is that i found during my search is that Alex Coppel is German of Jewish descendent and that what made me may be correlate the hebrew letters with.. dont know if i am right or wrong?

During this search i have gained a lot of information, specially that i am these days reading The Dan Brown book "The Symbol" 

But i am still confused of the name, year of this bayonet?
Why there is no any serial number on any part of it as there should be?
Why the letter "Z in a circle" is engraved on it?
There is no other sword or bayonet made by Alex Coppel that has this mark besides the AC scales?


I know that these are a lot of questions, and that the KOTCT is about coin collecting but i just need help, so i appreciate if anybody can answer these questions or reffer me to who can.

Thanks for your concern OldDan, i have measured the overall length and it is 28" with the sword in its scabbard, the blade is 22 1/2", BUT the grip is not pressed leather.

I know what you mean, but unfortunately there is nothing. Neither words or marks are present

I HAVE NOT COLLECTED SWORDS--BUT I HAVE AN 1860 CIVIL WAR MUSSLE LOADER THAT WAS CARRIED BY THE SOUTHERN ARMY IN PART AND I HAVE A RATHER MEAN LOOKING BAYONET THAT LOCKED ON THE RIFFLE BUT THE CLAMPING SCREWS ARE MISSING----IT FITS ON THE GUN BUT THERE IS NO WAY I CAN LOCK IT DOWN.........I TRIED TO GET IT ON TOP OF MY SCANNER BUT WITHOUT AND SUCCESS.....

Found a source that said this: 1874 Peabody Yataghan, converted to side arm status by removing the locking stud and replacing the leather grips with replacement wooden ones. The replacement grips  can be plain or grooved/checkered.

the grip is not leather or wood it is grooved yellow metal "dont know the type".
