Title: Reeled in, hook, line and sinker.
Post by: Triggersmob on May 04, 2009, 11:22:15 PM
For sometime now the lady I work with, Tanya, has been on the look out for odd coins for me, that I may not already have.
She has passed this on to her Daughter, Kelsey, who also looks out for coins for me now. The other day Tanya handed me a pile of
German, South African and Singapore coins, saying they were from Kelsey. I had none of these coins in my collection, and Kelsey
was thrilled that she had found coins that I needed. I sent Kelsey some of my spare coins in 2 x 2's and now she is hooked on coin
collecting. She has these coins sitting on a shelf in her bedroom and shows them to everybody.

What I was wondering is if anyone else would like to send some coins to her, to really ignite that flame. I can see her face now,
with coins coming from all over world. If you would like to help, send me an e-mail and I will give you the address.

Many thanks

Thats awesome! And a good project for a few Knights to work on. I'll have to see what spares or duplicates I have, as soon as I get time to look in the vault  ;)
I'll get back to you later this week about it.

Actually, I don't need to wait untill later this week. There is always time for coins when you're an insomniac like me  ::)
I've put together a small package for her. And I'm going to try to find another item or two to send with it. If you want you can go ahead an PM me her address, and I'll get her parcel shipped out as soon as I can.

She may be kind of suprised to get a package from Mexico, Missouri. I mean, seriously. Is that in the U.S. or Mexico???  ;D ;D ;D

Nancy,
I received your coins today, thank you very much.

I will let you know what Kelsey says when she sees them.

Oh! and the stamp collecting half of me, says thanks for the old Aussie stamps on the envelope.
Do you collect stamps also?

Gary, your coins arrived at work today.
Thanks very much.

Tanya opened all the packages today at work.
Kelsey is going to love those coins.
Many thanks to all of you.
I hope to have Kelsey sign up here soon,
so she can tell what she has received.

Steve, I do collect stamps, but not actively at present.  I usually buy a Year Book from the Post Office each year & naturally any stamp that arrives on an envelope gets saved.  I've got stamps all over the place, in bags, jars, bowls, take away food containers, you name it!  ;D

Coins are my real collecting passion. :D  8)

Gary, I  sent a text to Kelsey last night and she hopes to sign up tonight or on the weekend.

Nancy, both coins and stamps are a passion with me, I don't think I could be without either.
I am finally within cooee of having all my stamps catalogued. It's a big job. Just remember if ever it
gets to the stage were you loose interest in the stamps, I give free home to orphaned stamps. LOL

Whenever I receive a package from Australia or the UK, I cut off the stamps and give them to the grandkids.

I just received a gift from a friend, for my retirement.

It came from our Post Office.  It consists of a picture of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris (Baseball), and at the bottom of the poster is a "first day cover" showing Yankee Stadium.  The postmark was April 1, 2008, representing the start of the final season for the stadium.  Since my wife, daughter, two grandkids, and myself, took in a game at Yankee Stadium last summer, it made the gift all the more meaningful.

Adam,

Your package will probably arrive safely, however the only way you can be sure of safe delivery in the future is to use the Burke Turtle Service.

It might take me a number of years to get all mine sorted out, but when I do, you'll get a heap of the duplicates.

Coins arrived today from Muckeye, thank you very much Bob.

Kelsey posted a thank you in the chat box at the top of the screen a few days ago.
(she is still learning how to navigate around this forum)
I hope you all saw it, but if not, she is truly thankful.
Kelsey's family are moving house at the moment, so she will be offline for a few days.

Marvin, just letting you know that the coins still haven't arrived.
I hope they didn't get lost in transit.
Will let you know as soon as we see them.

Thanks for sending the coins.

Marvin, well it's been about another 2 weeks and still no sign of the package.
I am seriously thinking that it is lost now.
Having said that though, it did take 3 months for a package to arrive from the U.S.A.
Maybe they shipped it by boat instead of air mail. It could be on the same boat as my new car,
which is also coming from Germany.

I will let you know in the future, if it does turn up.
Many thanks anyway for your generosity and best wishes to you.

Steve,

We remember that "three month" package don't we!?

As I remember, it took three months and about three weeks to get there.  Must be close to some kind of record.

Oh well, the postal services of different countries deserve praise.  Our packages almost always arrives, although sometimes late.

True, Gary.

When you think of the number of mail items sent each day, not that many go missing.

Hi Steve,

I just wanted to ask once more whether my letter has already showed up yet, but there seem no news until now, right? I sent it via Air Mail, so I hoped it would arrive in some time. Sorry to hear that it seems to be lost.. I have had put in many old German coins from Weimar Republic and Third Reich, but also from the current Federal Republic of Germany and other current European coins :( Let me know if it showes up within the next time, there is still some hope :)

Best wishes,
Marvin

Hi Marvin,

It's a real shame that the parcel has gone missing. Seems like there are some very nice coins in there.

I have a form from the post office so then can do a search, but I will need some information from you.

Where was it posted from?
When was it posted?
What time was it posted?
How much postage was applied?
What are the dimensions of the package?
What is the value declared on the parcel?
What is the description on contents?

I doubt that you will have most of the details, but if you can answer all or some of these questions, I might be able to get them to trace it.
I wouldn't hold your breath though.

Hi Marvin,

It's a real shame that the parcel has gone missing. Seems like there are some very nice coins in there.

I have a form from the post office so then can do a search, but I will need some information from you.

Where was it posted from? Gelsenkirchen, Germany
When was it posted? -
What time was it posted? -
How much postage was applied? -
What are the dimensions of the package? Around 170cm*110cm .. but I am not right sure!
What is the value declared on the parcel? It was declared with 35 Euros
What is the description on contents? numismatic items

I doubt that you will have most of the details, but if you can answer all or some of these questions, I might be able to get them to trace it.
I wouldn't hold your breath though.

I added the information I can give you about my letter above, but I sent it normal and not registered (maybe this was the big mistake ..) The German post makes me very mad the past few months.. Believe it or not, but 1 of 10 letters that I send "disappears".. I can hardly explain it to myself, but you can imagine what I suspect?
Maybe my letter actually made it to Australia and is lying around somewhere and hasn't been found yet  :-\

Best wishes
Marvin

Twoshadows, did you send any coins yet, as nothing has come through. Just checking in case they got lost too.
