1854 O Liberty Seated Half Dollar
December 24, 2014, 07:00:36 AM
I recently obtained an 1854 O (New Orleans) Liberty Seated Half Dollar.

Mintage: 5,240,000

This is the Type 3 variety- Arrows at Date - No Rays which was minted from 1854 to 1855.

Now that is a nice coin being 160 yrs old (and in 8 days, it'll be 161 yrs old....for those who have mathematical understandings). A while ago, I was in a pawn shop looking at coins and noticed a S L half at a very low price. I snatched it......a Civil War (1861-1865) era dated half. Pawn shops aren't too bad for coins and the prices at these shops are just slightly lower than the retail, but the 7.4% sales tax has prevented me many times (15-?) in NOT making the purchases.

You are lucky.....our retail tax here (called G.S.T. - Goods and Services Tax) is 10%

Hi:
A very nice coin to own.   Sure it should be worth around $300
During my visit, in May, I tried in Jewelry Shops and Pawn Shops.
But, no luck
WISH YOU ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS

I paid about 32.25 US dollars for the coin....that included postage from the US to the UK and PayPal fees.

Redbook lists the coin at 40 to 50 US dollars for G-4 to VG-8 grades.  For a VG-8 some of the letters in Liberty need to be visible.

Nice coin! I have one, and also the 1853-O. But I don't think either of them are as nice as yours.
