Help required with U.S. cents, please.
August 30, 2013, 06:52:23 PM
One of my favourite collections is the Lincoln cent. I have just about the complete year/mint collection, not including varieties.
I am in need of 1931S and 1914D to complete that collection. Does anyone have a low grade of these coins for sale?
I can't afford higher grades, but as long as I can read the year and mint, it would be OK.
Alternatively, if anyone is going to a coin show, maybe you could keep an eye out for me. Thanks in anticipation.

Here is one of my better coins....

I see there is a 1914D, VG8 grade for auction on CCF.
Anyone have a current Redbook price for one of these please?

Does this help?

http://www.numismedia.com/cgi-bin/coinprice.cgi?script=lnccnt&searchtype=any&searchtext=fmv&search=any&nmcode=10614800&guide=prices&guide2=pricesms

G4 - $156
VG8 - $180
F12 - $228

Just remember it is a key date coin.

With a mintage of only 1,193,000, this is the third lowest mintage of the Lincoln head series. With this said the coins has been subject to many forms of altering and counterfeiting since the business struck coin was released to the public. The most used coin to alter is the 1944 d Lincoln penny. Removing parts of the first four and make it to look like a one was pretty simple. When this is done there is a sizable gap between the nine and the four. Any coin used to counterfeit the 1914 D Key Date Lincoln Penny after 1918, the designer initials were added to the coin down by Lincoln's right shoulder, would need to show signs of removal. Next time you look at a 1914 D Lincoln, your eyes should immediately go to these focal points for verification for being genuine.

So from this picture - http://s1020.photobucket.com/user/numis1/media/1914Dobv_zps28c13a6e.jpg.html

It seems like the real deal but I would want someone with my experience than me to verify that.

While it is one of the 5 that I need, I will not be bidding on this coin now....I still don't even have a 1911-S.

If the pound was back to being worth almost $2, I might be more tempted.

I see there is a 1914D, VG8 grade for auction on Mom & Dad Site.
Anyone have a current Redbook price for one of these please?

From my 2013 Red Book - 1914D in VG8 = US$260.00
But there is a  little rider:  Beware of altered date or Mintmark. No V.D.B. on shoulder of genuine 1914D Cent.

Thanks for the info guys. It looks legit in my limited knowledge.

Ken, I didn't think the 1911S was too expensive, but then I guess it depends on what grade you want.

Here's my 1911S...

Nice 1911-S that you have there.

For that and the 1931-S it will need to be low grade ones.

Most likey I will skip the other key dates.

It will be interesting to see the final bid on the coin.  Right now it is at 145.01 and that was the only bid.

Some money that I was hoping for, hasn't hit my Paypal yet, so I might not be able to bid on it after all.

Coin ended up going for 145.01.  If the buyer does send it off from grading, I would be interested in the results.
