1.00 AUD = 0.777393 USD and for some strange reason, whenever I send funds to the US, the conversion used by Paypal is always less than the current rate.  Greedy rotten sods. 

Example:  My order will cost US$53. Allowing 1.5% extra for Paypal fees, it comes to $60.95, convert that from US$ to Au$ and you get: 
60.95 USD = 78.4030 AUD.  So my US$53 order becomes AU$78.41.  To make sure my order is fully paid for & doesn't cost the Forum Coffers anything, I'll send $80 and by sending that little extra to Terry, I could be confident that he would end up with at least US$53.00.  If there's a few cents left over, he can go on a spending spree.  Ha Ha, Just Joking.

We have options just like the Mint and we have something they don't offer---EXTREMELY LOW MINTAGES. And, of course, there is the rarity factor because NO ONE else in the world can sell you one. (We are non- profit so there is no gouging) Seems to me we have created that which most coin collectors would dream of owning? Edix, if I remember correctly, didn't we just have the silver proof edged lettered with membership numbers last year. I do know that it was only the silver that the etching was permitted. We also had .999 pure silver placed on ALL the silver medallions which I feel we should do again.

You will have to get those membership numbers and do hope you are keeping your order list again this year as I am counting on you again!!!

Now, I have a favor to ask of everyone! Please take the time to encourage all of our members to order at least one medallion. Doesn't matter which one as it will take much more than has currently been ordered to meet the financial obligations involved in a project of this magnitude. We did it last year with a whole lot less members so spreading the costs around over a larger number of members would be very beneficial to those who really stepped up last year.

At this time, if I had all current orders paid for, we could probably pay off all design/sculpting fees, die
engraving fees and die blanks, but we are far short of the cost of the copper and silver blanks that will be struck and the price of the silver involved. We are getting closer each day but our quest is far from over. I know there are many members who played a role last year who, for one reason or another, do not check in as often as they used to. Please take the time to email these members and friends all around the world and let them know OUR 2008 medallion quest is under way. Thank you to each and every Knight and Knightess for a great first year here in our new castle!

Knights and Knightesses we need to make a concentrated effort to contact as many members and collecting friends that we all have here to seek support in our 2008 Medallion Quest. As I stated earlier in other posts last years medallion project was a success due to 33 different members placing orders. I must also point out one of those members was a MAJOR donor and puchaser, which got us over the hump, and I am hoping we can avoid putting anyone in that position again this year. If you would PLEASE take the time to email a Knight or Knightess and let them know WE need their support and would also like for everyone to continue as active members here regardless of their commitment to this program. Thank you Edix. Don't know where I would be without you, CoinCrusader and Mountain Lady taking care of various aspects of these programs. I see we are at a total of 90 medallions which is great for the first 9 days of taking orders. Last year, if I remember correctly, we ordered 167 medallions in silver, copper and brass. The pewter medallions were made by Daniel as a gift for production delays and were not included in the total even though many members ended up purchasing them. This total gives us some idea what would be an ideal response to this years medallion program. I do believe we need to get to the 150 to 175 level to make this worthwhile for Daniel and KOTCT. We would at least be on par with last years program. Keep emailing members, both active and not so active, to let them know the quest has started. While it takes quite a chunk of money for any organization to pull off this type of program we must not forget it is a non-pofit quest which we have undertaken out of pride for our forum, pride for one another and the desire to do that which cannot be done. Another page in the history of KOTCT. And, should there be a few bucks left we should remember we will be facing another 2 year update on our website costs and our domain names by Sept. 2009. Hopefully we can reach our goal and extend our castle home for another 2 years long before that September deadline.  It has been an honor sharing my time and hobby with you folks and I, along with a great number of others, wish to do so for years to come. I have been in touch with Daniel Carr and have asked if I can forward the monies to cover the obverse and reverse design/sculpting, the 39mm die blanks (2), the 63mm die blanks (2), the engraving fees for the 39mm medallion (both obverse and reverse), the engraving fees for the 63 mm medallion (both obverse and reverse which will come to $1,300. While he was in no hurry I intend to get a cashier check to him in the next week. That will leave us with a balance to cover the silver, copper, and pewter blanks and the fees required for edge marking on the silver and the individual serial numbers (on the silver as well). We will be well on our way!

I do HOPE we can encourage other members to ORDER at least one medallion in the next 15 to 20 days so there will be no doubt about making that final payment on this years medallion quest. Thanks to each of you who have ordered and remitted your payments so quickly. Now I am anxious to move that money to Colorado as quickly as Daniel will accept it!!! I will keep everyone posted here or on the balance sheet as monies come in and as I send checks on to Designs Computed.

I would like to see a set go up for auction on e-bay. It would be interesting to see how much they sold for.

I think the auction should explain the mere fact it is the ONLY set ever to be offered the general public and explain a bit about the KOTCT being the first online group to reach such a milestone. And, of course explain how the monies will be used to continue our website presence in the future. Also post the total mintages for each medallion. Not many floating around this big planet for sale! We should take full advantage of the auction and the folks who collect such items. Who knows, we may pick up some members?
Is there anyone doing Ebay right now? (selling).  Also we MUST make sure Nohope receives his investment back before we start counting profits!!! Any volunteers for this duty?

Edix, if I remember correctly, didn't we just have the silver proof edged lettered with membership numbers last year. I do know that it was only the silver that the etching was permitted. We also had .999 pure silver placed on ALL the silver medallions which I feel we should do again.

According to Daniel Carr's own log of issues he's worked on, he's left notes on the 2007 KotCT medals that both the satin and prooflike silver medals were inscribed with Knight's and Knightess' numbers:

Just a little notice to let everyone know we have about 15 days left for the acceptance of 2008 Medallion Quest orders. NO 1. I would like to purchase the last silver proof minted and have it engraved with the final mintage EG. 123 of 123. also maybe we could have Daniel Carr authentic the item that it is the last one minted.with a special card promoting himself and the great place we call home. then i would like this item sold on eBay or any where else where we could generate some income for the forum.
maybe some other members would step in to buy the other 5 different medals remaining with the the same process done. only takes one each.
then we could space the auction's out so we can maximise the sale of these items.

Buda, not a bad idea. However I think it has been discussed a couple times that we keep the silver medals among the membership and possibly sell some copper and/or pewter medals and maybe some wooden dollars.

I/We, as a group, can do whatever we deem necessary to keep some funding coming in. Personally I would love to see what a couple of each would do on the open market (Ebay). It is just a matter of doing it.

Buda I would suggest you email D. Carr and see what it would take to get the last one(s) serial numbered. He will be doing the silver so sticking a copper in the mix may not hurt a thing. Now the pewter may be a problem as your looking at a larger medallion that will NOT be edge engraved.
