Australian Penny Help Needed
December 21, 2007, 04:50:15 PM
Thanks to the generosity of Kitty, Triggersmob, and others, I now have 23 spaces filled in my Australian Penny album.

If I had my McDonalds book I probably wouldn't need to ask for help, but until I get it back perhaps members can provide some information.

I have a 1919, but I don't know which variation it is.  Where do you look for the one with the dot?

In 1941 there were three variations.  Where do you look for the K.G. variety?

Also three in 1943.  What does the "I" stand for in 1943-I, and where do you look for the I?

In 1952 there is an A.  Does that mean the dot is after the last "A" in Australia?

Thanks for any assistance.

 :) :) :) :)

The 1919 Penny.....dot can be found above and/or below the top and bottom scroll (scroll above the word ONE and below the word PENNY).  The dot is normally in the centre above or below.

The K.G in the 1941 Penny is just above the Kangaroo's tail.

The 1943 I can be located on the obverse at the bottom of George VI 's left neck.

The 1952 & 53 Penny...you are correct it is after the last A in Australia

Hope this helps...if not let me know and I will try and scan them for you.

Great information.  Thanks.

It's almost midnight here, so I'm putting away the coins and headed for bed.  But will use the information you provided when we return home Christmas day.  I should now be able to place all the pennies I have.

Thanks again.

Hi CC,
The albums have places for 78 coins, but there is over 100 if you consider that there are varieties, and many many more when errors are considered. The 1943I for example you were asking about has 2 varieties, one with short reverse denticles and one with long. They both have the I under the Kings neck and show the dot penny dot on the reverse. Check HERE for some more information and pictures of the appropriate obverse and reverse dies. Cheers and enjoy.
