New Coins

I recently received two Australian coins from GregK.

One was a gift.  It was a 2008 Fifty Cent Piece commemorating the 25th anniversary of America's Cup victory by the Australia II.

That caused me to wonder about other 2008 Australian coins, in addition to the standard circulation coins.

Could anybdy provide a list?

Also, is there anything new and different planned for next year?

I have heard rumours that the mintmark dollars for 2009 will represent '60 years of Australian Citizenship'.

Other than that, the theme for the 2009 mint and proof sets is International Year of Astronomy. Don't know yet if the commemorative $1 (in a 2 coin unc set) or the commemorative 20 cent (from the mint set) will also be for circulation.

The dollar coin from the baby sets will represent Dorothy Wall (creator of Blinky Bill). (NCLT)

Then of course, there is also the Year of the Ox dollar coin. (NCLT)

Received my 2009 Year of Astrology 2 coin and 6 coin Uncirculated Mint sets in mail today.

Not bad looking coins but the price of A$15 and A$30 each set getting a bit steep.
