My favorite pre-decimal error
September 14, 2008, 06:47:06 AM
I found this coin a while back, but I like it so much it bears a repeat. Take a close look at distortion of the kangaroo and lettering.
This particular coin reminds me of the US 1890 Indian Head cent DDO, with similarly blocky serifs and overall inward displacement.
According to Chuck Daughtrey at coppercoins.com, this is a class VI distended double die--thanks for that attribution! As there must be other examples, has anyone found this coin?

Compare to a normal 43-I reverse:

Poor kangaroo looks like it has done a few rounds in the ring.

He does look a little boxed around the snout and eyes.  ;)

Hope the 'roo wasn't knocked about by that bloke in Oz that apparently filmed himself beating the $#!+ out of a roo and then disappearing.

That was disgusting. I hope they catch him and really throw the book at him.

I noticed that he picked on a Grey Kangaroo, I would like to see him try that with a big Red Kangaroo. It would tear him apart.
