Title: New UK 1 Pound Coin
Post by: Kena on March 20, 2014, 04:41:13 AM
We will be getting a bi-metallic 1 pound coin in the future.

I hope they hold up better in circulation than the current ones do.

I like it. :)
I knew they had a problem with fakes,
but I didn't realise it was as high as 3%.

Folks are saying this is the reason for the change.

Oooh, and I haven't even had a chance to put together the whole new set, with the crest design on the back.

I have oodles of pence, tuppence, fives and tens, but the larger the coin the harder it is to find in the bulk bins.  :(

And honestly the sets are going for too much IMO.

I do like the bi-metallic coin, and I can't compare size; but except for the polygonal edge it looks quite like the 2 pound coin.

ElleKitty which are you missing from the Royal Shield design?

Is it the 20 pence and 50 pence which make up part the design and a 1 pound with the full design?

The did not make any Royal Shield 50 pence coins for circulation in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

I have not seen a 2013 Royal Shield 50 pence.  So not counting 2013, there have been 1,006,176,613 current size 50 pence coins made for circulation and the 2008 & 2012 Royal Shield 50 pence makes up 55,047,030 of those.  So it can be a bit of a challenge to find a Royal Shield 50 pence some days.  Now if you wanted a standard 1997 50 pence, that would be easy since they made 456,364,100 of those.

For some reason, I think I am going to be popular in 2017 with folks asking me for this coin.

I might actually have to start using 1 pound coins, I normally ask for my change to be in 50 pence coins or

Kena, yes-  I am missing the 20 pence and a 50 pence, and the 1 pound coin.

Seems like I may never get the 50 unless I buy the set.  Hrm.

I should be able to find a Royal Shield 20 pence, 50 pence, and pound coin for you if you are not fussed if the coins have different dates on them.

I wouldn't be at all fussed if the dates were different.

Is there anything I can pick up for you in return?
