Aussie Paper Money Trade
May 17, 2009, 07:23:38 AM
One of my grandkids would love a sample of the lowest denomination of Australian paper money.

Anyone want to trade?  If so, what would you like from the U.S.?  I have the 2009 Sacajawea Dollar, or can locate other coins.

 :) :) :) :)

Gary, the lowest current Aussie note is $5, but it's polymer, not paper.

Paper notes were replaced starting in the 80,s and are rarely seen now.  I only have a few nice ones I kept for posterity.

$1 notes were replaced in 1984 by the MOR $1 coin, $2 notes were replaced in 1988 by $2 coin.

Would a polymer $5 note do instead?

Nancy, Polymer would be fine.

As a matter of fact, I did have a polymer note, however I had a friend who wanted it badly, so I let it go.

I have two x $2 notes in my box at my other job.  I generally don't collect notes, but these were given to me months ago by a bank teller.  They are not in great condition, but if I recall they are not torn, simply folded 6 million times.  They are yours if you want them. Unlike the vast number of coins I have, these are readily at hand. PM me your address. There is also a Belize note and one I can't rember. You can have those two/too  ;D

I'm sure I have a spare $1 note.

I'll send it off to you.

Just curious.  What's the largest note that circulates in Australia?

Our largest denomination note is $100 and all our notes are now polymer.

Paper notes are still legal currency, but are rarely seen these days except at a Bank. $100 is also the largest denomination paper note.
