PLEASE READ (2009) Medallions
December 27, 2009, 04:17:00 AM
While it is very apparent we are running late with the medallion quest there will be a 2009 medallion struck. What I need at this time is some idea whether or not we have the numbers to raise the monies for the endeavor. Would each of you please give me an idea what you will purchase this year. (2009)  I am assuming we may see a slight price increase across the board if silver goes any higher. I do want each of you to understand WE must raise the funds to pay for this project and it usually runs between $3,200 to almost $4,000 but we have eliminated the costs for reverse engraving, sculpting and dies by retaining our 2008 reverse which should probably save us in the neighborhood of $600 to $900. I will be getting with Daniel in hopes of getting something solid to work with and then go from there.
In the mean time, based on an estimated cost, would you please tell me what you will be ordering?

Proof Silver  $40
Satin Silver  $40
Proof Copper $20                ALL OF THESE IN 38mm
Satin Copper  $20
Antique Copper $20

63MM Pewter Medallion  $20

THESE PRICES ARE NOT LOCKED IN AT THIS TIME. ONLY AN ESTIMATE THAT COULD BE RAISED OR LOWERED AS NEEDED. THIS WILL GIVE ME SOME IDEA WHAT WE CAN RAISE TOWARDS OUR GOAL.

Thank you for those Knights and Knightesses who have responded today. To put this perspective this last few posts are showing an interest with a value of $1,140. While we have some money in our KOTCT Royal Treasury I do not wish to count that towards a total until we absolutely, in the end, have to do so. My/our goal is to make sure this quest will raise the funds and with a little luck purchase a few extras for sales later. I would hope for orders of $3,200 to 3,600 to feel really good about where we are at and what we are doing.

Also please keep in mind this is nothing more than a poll on which we will base our decisions on moving ahead, how many to order and the cost per medallion based on precious metal prices on the day D. Carr buys the silver. Again thank you for your imput on this matter!

I have been in contact with Daniel Carr and given the approval to move forward with the 2009 which should be struck in Jan. of 2010 which means a Feb. delivery could be possible. After discussions with Daniel we have decided to eliminate serial numbering due to time constraints and additional costs. We are going to make every effort to shave costs where ever possible and keep this yearly medallion quest alive and strong. I will reassure each of you at this time that Daniel is prepared to continue with the 2010 medallion quest as quickly as we can wrap the 2009 quest up. (THERE COULD BE A SURPRISE HERE?)

It is imperative NOW that each and every member who wishes to received a 2009 medallion to post his/her wishes on this thread as our order will be initially based on what is done here. At this time we are at the $1,400 level which is far short of what will be needed to make this a success. There are members out there who may need to be given a heads up so feel free to drop them an email concerning our quest. Thank you all in advance for bringing another rarity into the world!!!

Each day we grow closer to an order which will pay for the engraving, sculpting and dies. I will be quite comfortable when we add about another $1,200 to the above list. Please keep in mind it was just a few short years ago, when the initial quest started, we were told it could NOT be done. Emails came from all over the world telling me/Gary/YOU to not waste our time. WE did not listen. Two years are under our belt and we are looking at 2009 and 2010 medallions. Do we still have what it takes? ;)

I've got a list of all the Knights that bought Medals last year, and will PM any that haven't ordered 2009 ones as a gentle reminder, but will give them a few more days.  ;D

These totals will have to go up very quickly or the 2009 program will come to a screeching halt. We are not near last years total order, which was somewhat lower than the 2007 order, and I am well aware of costs based on sculpting and engraving which does NOT change. The only thing that will change is the cost of metal blanks based on the size of our order. I will look into last years order for the totals and base a decision from that. We are about $1,000 off at this time (If is remember correctly). Will keep all of you posted.

From some 2008 Medal info I kept at the time, I estimate the total 2008 Medal cost was approx $3152.00. Give or take a dollar or two, so at this point in time the 2009 tally is $1030 under.

Maybe we need to send a message to ALL members and advise them that orders are now being taken.

Set a date on the email for closing of orders (this we can change at any time) and see what we get.

Heheheheh!  I sent a message to all yesterday.  I left out the moderators, Admin & Tech though as they're all aware of the 2009 Medallion Program.

Never mind, at least everyone should all know about it now.  ;)

Message from Templar confirming his order:

i would like the following medals and if the prices have to change--so be it---its for the good of the club and it continues a tradition--maybe in the future we need to look a one medallion per year--keeping the tradition up and the cost under control:

   i would like the following:1...proof silver...@$40
                                        1...proof copper...@$20
                                        1...antique copper...@$20
                                        1...63mm medallion...@$20
     4 medals at a total of $100

Three silver proofs of which two to be given away in an easy contest ( so three times postage )
I will hold the contest BEFORE shipping is done so the two can go straight to the lucky winners

Merlin ALWAYS splits when I need him the most! By the time all of this is done I will need a secretary!!! (Dark hair, really built, middle aged, lots of money and likes older men) ;)

Nevol PLEASE keep track of official orders and I will try to inform you when payments are received from members BUT please wait a bit before sending money as I/We need to hear from Daniel Carr concerning finished designs and any cost increases we may not be aware of. (Other than silver)

I'm kinda confused.
Are we really making full orders at this point?
Are those all the real choices being offered?
When is the deadline for orders and how do you pay if you don't have Paypal?

Order from Topher thru email system:

It's been a long while for me, so this message got my attention.  I'd be willing to order the large pewter medallion and one of the copper ones.  (Not real picky. and I can't remember what I got last year, so I'll dig it out and get a matching one this year.

Thanks,

Topher

Please remember.....this is to give Daniel Carr some idea of the number we want so that he can confirm costs.

You MAY be able to change your mind later if there are any spare but we cannot guarantee that you will get any unless you give us some idea NOW.

I will tentatively amend my order by increasing it.
I would wish to obtain:
the silver satin
the copper satin
and
the pewter, as previously requested.

I don't have PayPal, nor personal checks, so can only supply a postal money order.
Let me know the ultimate ordering details when available.
Cheers!

We will give you some notice. At this time we are still waiting for word from Daniel Carr concerning finished designs. After that it should go very quickly. Start saving those pennies as the 2010's WILL BE STRUCK this year if we indeed chose to continue. And we could always scale back a bit but we will worry about that later.

Do add this coin to my collection?

Without looking at our order I would say we are safe at this time IF and when all the medallions currently ordered are paid for. We had a safety net of a few hundred dollars in the KOTCT Treasury BUT if we can carry some of that over it would be best as this will be a two medallion year with the 2010 yet to be designed. I think everyone who has ordered will fulfill their order obligations at this time.
Now if I/WE/YOU think there is a need for more medallion PLEASE order them by March 5th and pay as soon as possible as the 2009 are nearing production. Nevol will forward our order to Daniel Carr between the 5th and 8th so the striking can begin. Our initial payment to cover silver blanks is already in the mail and I won't know the final costs until Daniel forwards the final bill. As always I am keeping my fingers crossed! ;)

Just a quick note to let all of you know Nevol is preparing to send our FINAL order to the Moonlight Mint and Daniel Carr. Ordering is now closed so payments should be forwarded by the 25th of this month. I will mention we, as in the past, will put any unpaid medallions up for sale after the paid orders are shipped by CoinCrusader and Mountain Lady. If any of you will have trouble meeting the 25th deadline feel free to give me an email as your friends here are more than willing to work with you towards a happy ending! Thats just the way we are! :)
