This years medals
March 26, 2020, 06:06:10 AM
I can't believe nobody started a thread yet!  ;D

Themes? Finishes? Sizes?

I personally like the 1 oz and 3 oz medals in silver. Matte or brilliant.

Last years ordering system seemed to worked well and took a lot of the pressure and work off of SirSta¢ksALot.

Stay safe everyone.

Greetings and Salutations!

This will be my first opportunity to be included in this and I’m rather excited to be honest.i think it should be done in a satin or burnished finish on silver in 1&2 oz medals.the obverse should have a picture of the virus ball and read something like corvid-19 year of the virus.on the reverse it should say something like I survived and have picture of the KOTCT emblem and 2020 at the bottom.cant wait to see what the final one will look like.

Personally, I don't care for the idea of anything associated with the memorializing COVID-19.  This is just a fancy label for the flu. Yes it was devastating especially for the elderly and mostly because the bulk of them weren't given any antibiotic medication just placed on ventilators.

Knights, Castles, Wizards, Dragons are good choices. Not something that is completely unrelated to our groups theme.

But, If the flu is actually palatable to everyone, why not commemorate the wildfires in Australia? Just as devastating and just as off theme.

Just my opinion,

I agree, let's not specifically memorialize Covid-19 on a KOTCT medal.

But I think the theme of a Knight facing/battling death is appropriate for a KOTCT medal. And it's especially timely for 2020.

=======

TKO, you seem to be mis-informed. Covid-19 is NOT just a fancy label; it's a far more serious illness than a typical flu. It's already claimed nearly 110,000 lives in the U.S. That's about three times the deaths for the entire 2018 - 2019 U.S. flu season. And most of those 110,000 deaths happened with the country basically shut-down for 3 months, with non-essential businesses closed & stay-at-home orders & massive furloughs/layoffs/unemployment & schools closed & churchs closed & mask-wearing & social distancing & frequent hand-washing & disinfecting protocols. And so much more.

And unlike a common flu, there's no vaccine (yet) for the coronavirus.

Or maybe just a knight-on-horseback (like the 2017 medal), with the Grim Reaper a shadowy background figure.

Coincidentally, 2020 is the Chinese Year of the Rat -- the animal often blamed for spreading the Black Death in 14th century Europe.

"The Rat is symbolic of the heightened drive for survival in danger and times of scarcity."
And ambition, hard work, wealth, and more: http://www.symbolisms.net/year-of-the-rat.html

Thinking-Out-Loud: Maybe include a rat, looking up at a Knight, with the Grim Reaper in the background.

A rat, the reaper,  the knight,  and 2020 makes for a perfect year for a Roman numeral date - MMXX.

Actually,  2030 will be ideal,  we should live that long, God willing  - MMXXX  - Moonlight Mint, triple X.

This year it's just the beer,  Dos XX.  One of my favorites.

Re: This years medals
January 11, 2021, 08:54:18 PM
Obviously, 2020 has come and gone. It seems many people had a rough year. I have been quite busy, although that doesn't necessarily mean that I was productive.

In February my Wife and I both had the dreaded Corona virus. As a flu-like illness it wasn't that bad, except that I also had conjunctivitis (viral "pinkeye") associated with it, and that part was really bad for me (for about a week).

We had pretty severe forest fires near here and the smoke was so bad that we hardly went outside or opened any windows for a couple months in August and September.

Then this happened in another unit in the same building where my mint workshop is located:

The business there was involved in fixing large motor homes and RVs. Obviously, that business and the large RV inside were a total loss. Fortunately, there was no direct damage to my units. But I was without full power for three weeks, and no heat or water for a month during November and December.

So I was unable to produce anything for KotCT in 2020 as I had hoped. At this point I would like to consider something that spans both years 2020 and 2021 (sort of like how the "Dark Side" medal spanned four years 2012-2015).

I think I would like to try a different format this year. Maybe not the same shape as past years. Also, maybe this one time I could just do the design in "secret" and not reveal it until the finished medals are shipped ?
I have a couple ideas that have not been discussed previously, but could be fitting for these times.

Also, maybe this one time I could just do the design in "secret" and not reveal it until the finished medals are shipped ?
I have a couple ideas that have not been discussed previously, but could be fitting for these times.

That sounds amazing: thank you!

Dan: I’m in for a “secret” medal.  Please just let it be silver. Go for it!  I am also in favor of you selling them directly to Knights on your website. SilverFan

Hi Dan, Yap life has been tough for a lot of folks lately. Sure glade you and the wife are getting by. No matter how good we think were prepared sometime the world just jumps up and bits us right on the back side. And sometimes just keeps on chewing.
So my opinion on the new medal, I think it would be good to honor the guy who has always from the beginning made our medals, and what better way to honor him than let him pick the design, metal type and surprise us.

Ah, time for reminiscing . . . . . .

I've only been a member for a few months, less than a year actually, but my fondness and appreciation has led me to acquire these . . . . . .

Has there ever been an octagonal medal for the Knights?

Count me in for a "secret" medal... or a set of medals. Whatever Dan decides is okay with me.

Also, a 2-year medal design (2020 - 2021) gets my vote.

Hello AKbeez thank you been poking my head in there reading the  good posts.  Still busy buying some kool silver bars.  When I get time from work will try and post a few.  Moos and Koos silver art works ever hear of them?
Did you feel the 4.4 quake last night.  It was on the other side of the inlet near the volcano?
You All have a great Wednesday hump day!  😋

Cheezhead that’s a nice one.  I was watching Dan when he applied the colors into them medals.  He really went the extra mile in doing that.  He just went at it concentrating on applying the colors to each medal.  It was impressive seeing how he did it as it was not a easy process, glad we made a request to get them colors in there like he did in the 2016 series.

I slept right through it...I heard about it on the news.  No obvious damage reported.

We get shakes and rumbles all the time.  BIG rattlers every couple years.  Madam Pele like to remind us she is still awake.

Hi, I’m new, but a great fan of Dan‼️I’m thinking the US Mark Twain silver dollar commemorative has a cool reverse with a knight riding a stallion and such.
Always been a fan of the 1795 capped bust $5 US gold‼️
Or how about a high relief “ The Liberia’s Americana Medal ‼️‼️
Just some ideas.... or even trade dollar obverse.
Thanks, Turtle

I'll give this a try.

I was fortunate to have secured a few of Dan's first 2021 coin club medals a few weeks ago.

Photo posting here is not my strong point.
